Martar Icebear

Scuba's directions for spawning Martar have been confirmed to function circa 2016:

Spawning Marter Icebear is easy if you have a tracker and a wee bit of patience.

Since Marter and Karg Icebear are so interrelated, I will be posting this under both of their names on Zam

Marter Icebear and Karg Icebear are relatively easy to spawn but a good tracker is required. These two are not on the same spawn cycle, though both of their cycles do include the same mobs.

The starting area is between the Wayfarers Camp and the west branch of the river above the split. slaughter any roaming mobs in that general vicinity. Mobs not included in the cycle are adult mammoths. What you are trying to spawn are polar bears, polar bear cubs and any of the Icy Goblins. These can spawn in any of about 20+ spawn sites. Generally, they will spawn between the ice giant fort and Megan's Tower, from almost to the north LDoN entrance to the lower LDoN entrance. The PH for these two re-spawns in 12 seconds +/- 3 seconds. Once you have a PH on tracking, stop the slaughter and wait about 20 seconds to make sure the slaughter re-spawns are done. Kill the PH and watch for what spawns about 12 seconds later. The re-spawns will include spiders, orcs and mammoth calves. Keep track of any other mobs that spawn at the same time, Tundra Jack and Iceberg will be killing at the same time. Almost every mob in that area of the zone re-spawn on the same time frame. Keep killing the re-spawns until you get either Marter or Karg. If you are after Marter and Karg is up, leave him up and repeat the killing of PHs until you get the Icy Goblin or the polar bears. These will become your new killing cycle.

Notes of interest: 1. I have had Marter spawn 12 times in a row then again not for over 25 kills of the PHs.

2. Normally, the named and the PHs will spawn in the north half of the zone, but they can spawn in the south..

3. I used a bard to track the re-spawns so that I would not get the spawns from the kills in the canyon area on tracking.

4. Watch the tracking very closely as the cycle contains orcs that can and will spawn all over the zone.. I:E a Snow Orc Trooper or Shaman. It also contains Snow leopards.

5. The Tainted Mammoth is not part of the cycle nor are any of the skeletons.

Good luck and good hunting.

Not too sure about these directions. 2 of us (1 a tracker) have been slaughtering everything in the triangle between the branches of the river for 3 hours (Edit: 5 hours now) and have yet to see a single polar bear, polar bear cub, or icy goblin, not to mention Martar himself. Not sure what "a wee bit of patience" means. A couple hours? 6-12 hours? More?

Karg Icebear will kill him
# Apr 10 2003 at 4:58 AM Rating: Decent
Tundra Jack will kill Martar. (Not Karg, my bad. Can't edit the title of my post, grrrr)

I had Martar on track and followed him. He walked by Tundra Jack's tent and that was it for Martar. Tundra Jack and his pet wacked him. TJ needs to die, he KSes mammoths and stole plat and xp from me on this one now.

SOE really needs to fix KSing NPCs. Correct it to if you need help you target the NPC and say 'help'. Since they make it for the Luclin guards to tell you where a quest NPC is located, they can make this happen too. These NPCs ***** players up more than help them when they come out of the blue and run up to you and KS. I had a mammoth down to a red sliver once when that idiot TJ came up and wacked it to dust. It's just lame.

My 30 Druid own's this guy!

I dinged 30 last night on the MT server. Trained in conjuration and then gated back here. I put up every buff I had, let mana get full and then found him on track. He resisted snare twice and broke root often but he does not cast and only hit me a few times. I dotted him (immolate, creeping crud and stinging swarm) and used combust ( 1 landed for 14 but the others hit for 170+) not knowing how many hit points he has because he did con yellow to my 30 Druid and I still had a full bulb of mana left in the end. I have 191 wisdom and nuked him till he died :). PS - the cloak sells for 47 pp to the merchants in surefall glade !!
Second time I went after him I let my dot's take him down :)

I had the pleasure of meeting Martar today. I was wandering around helping a low level get loot from orcs and killing mamma mammies when they crossed my path. I was down to about half life and no mana after healing and rezzing my low level friend, when he sees Martar walking by. He follows Martar and I start following them, staying back 'cause I wanted to take him but knew I probably couldn't take him in the state I was in. Anyway, they went over a hill and I lost them, when all of a sudden Martar starts beating my @$$. My friend was taken out quick and Martar had come after me. Luckily, by that time there were a few people around that had come to find Martar and I got a few heals.
I think I could have taken him at full life only with full mana also. He hits pretty hard.

Anyway, I got the cloak thanks to the kindness of a few strangers.

As a 20 Mage I practice begging with my pet. Why? I have no idea... guess I'm just curious as to how it works, never used it before. Anyway, I was medding after defeating a Wooly Mammoth when he wandered past me. I had the bright idea to try begging with him... bad idea. He attacked me, my pet attacked him, and I started running. The good thing about pets is that they can give you a headstart... he caught me anyway. Word to the wise: Only beg to something you can defeat. :)

I was hunting for this cloak for my resist gear (yes, I know there's probably better) and I happened to be in the right place at the right time and saw him spawn. He spawns in a small ruin (just a floor and low walls, no ceiling or door) at pos1881 neg4749.

While in EF the other day after hitting 29 with my Wizard, I ran over to the mammy platform with the intent of earning a canny bit of cash. Along comes Martar and starts beating on some of the newer players. I shouted to all jump on him, to all in the area, and about 13 players all started attacking him. There was a warrior of level 32 tanking and the rest were newbies. My nukes hit him hard aswell and after about 20 seconds, his corpse lay motionless on the ground, bearing the gifts of his cloak and the kilt, bith of which adorn my characters back. The moral of this story is, dont run, revolt and kill him. It can be a hard fight but certainly one that is worth something......its always nice to get revenge....

I am Lvl 18, just 'Dinged'. I zone from the P.Caverns in Shadow Haven becuase it is too crowded. I go to EverFrost, 'My OLD STOMP', and help a few noobs out. I head to where the orc shamans reside and I take a quick look and see a guy walkin, TOTALLY forgot about him not liking people and say to him "Hail, how are you today!"

Well, folks let me tell ya' He was MEGA P.O'ed, and took his might Icebear might and laid me out. Now his @SS is mine when the time is right and I will make this the grand point till I am old and grey(or lvl 60+) for every time I will come and visit and I am bringin the @SS kick cookies to the picnic and I am making the every-time-I-see-u-i-will-kill-u personal invite to the BEAR and I will have my sweet revenge. (and I will not deprive all my fellow questers of their revenge) but you better get your in now, because The BARD of Enigma is coming hungry, and the picnic basket is FULL of cookies, hehehehhahahahhah!!!

As a druid, I've been owning him solo since 27...gets easier and 28, and a ton easier at 29 (new spells). Hehe, I couldn't stand my wizzy alt, so I'm not exactly sure how it is to be without SoW and Ensnare all of the time or lacking DoTs, but basically, easy kill for druids, just DoT kit his ***** If its not working out, ensnare a mammy, charm it, and tell it to help ya out some. If you kill Martar half way with DoTs, just track a mammy, ensnare, charm, and tell it to start beating on him. Provided that you don't get too far from Martar, he'll ignore the mammy...he's too pissed at you...and even let the mammy kill him! Trust me, it worked alot...now, 2 nukes, I have another cloak, but, hey, I still remember those days! =) Hugs, Feellwin of Brillant Knights of the North, Rallos Zek

PS...Chain petting mammies DOES kill IGs at level 22...I did it...be prepared to spend hours on the computer...I still brag about it to this day! If you see me ingame, "/tell Feellwin I want to see those ubber pics of a 22 druid owning an IG, my E-mail is <your e-mail>" and i'll get them to ya! This is something you don't believe until you see....

Like most on this board, Martar abused my poor young shaman. I wanted revenge, badly. Now I'm not sure what the lowest level you should be to take on this clown, but I began at 34 when I got my first pet. He went down but not easily. I'm 45 seasons now and ALWAYS search him out when I visit Halas and give his tasty little cloak to younger shamans who probably also have dreams of their own revenge.

Aloha all and well met.

I seek to add to the wealth of information on this evil man, so that he may be hunted and slain.

The Evil Marter Icebear tends to spawn on the flats around the Perma Frost gates. In hunting this man, a party of 26's can accomplish the task, but be wary - he hits very hard. A pair of hunters might include a druid/ranger/bard (for tracking) and complementary class for the battle, and the pair should be around 28th season for the hunt. A solo artist can accomplish the mission at around 31, but that is class and equipment dependant.

I have slain this foul man many times, and have found his cloak to be a very quick sale for 100pp each. Sadly, I have not the time to wait for the best possible price.

If you have the time, follow this evil man along his path. Starting from his birthsite near Perma he takes a meandering path that leads him arcoss the front of the Mammie Ruins (much to the bane of many a fallen Mamie hunter ...), then a lazy path to Megan's Tower and then heading over to the Bandl Flats region.

Sometimes, by the grace of the gods, another beast will spawn in his place. I have seen such forms as a "ice goblin whelp" and " a polar bear cub" spawn in his absence. It is most unusual to see a cub so far out on the tundra near the Mammie Ruins - slay it and head for the Perma Frost gate and keep tracking.

I wish the well future hunters of Marter Icebear for this fine cloak.

Many moon has passed since martar treated me like a red-headed-step-child and have beaten me so bad that I vowed to seek revenge. I arrived in Everfrost Peak just before night fall. A few hours go by and yet no sign of Martar. Many mammoth have given their pityful souls in the process of the wait. Martar showed up, rooted, Poisoned, rooted, slowed, sickens, and blast blast, runewood staff hits, hits, many hits, and down he goes. The sweet smell of Revenge.

I am a level 17 Barbarian Shaman on the Lanys server. I had just come from the Mammoth Platform over to Megan's Tower when Martar came by. I was just standing there minding my own business and he starts whacking on me. Two hits and I know I'm in trouble. Thank the Tribunal, I had SoW up. I ran like a bat out of hell to the guards and got away. I've got my eye out for Martar now. The cloak shall be mine.

It started out as a horrible night for me, I died 6 times tying to recover my corpse on the river. Rathgar (my shaman friend) offered to help me recover. Minutes later, after many melees with shaman orcs and trooper. I got my body. Rathgar suggested that we find Martar for the cloak. I said cool. /follow Rathgar, when suddenly, I heard a great blast from behind, then another, yet another, Loading please wait. I never even got to see the guy. Now I know how bad *** he is. My friend Rathgar was kind enough to give me the cloak, now I am an owner!

Martar is no wuss,I have taken him with my 30 Druid more than once, Ensnare, Immolate and Combust X 4, used all my mana, but no damage to myself..... If the snare is resisted exspect to be hit at least twice ... Ouch ... get hit 4 times (for a druid) and you dead !!
Nice loot, The Cloak sells for 75-100pp ..
I'd like to know what the warthread Kilt is for, the stats are so low and with it being nodrop and Lore it must be for a Quest,... but as to yet I have no info .... Anyone know what it is for?
