The Resto Tree is the shaman healing tree. It contains talents which boost the healing done by spells, reduces mana cost of healing spells and give added benefits to Totems.

Primary uses

The Resto tree transforms a shaman into a highly effective healer. Chain Heal is arguably the best raid healing tool in the game and talents in the resto tree make the spell even better. While it is certainly possible to level up using a resto spec it can be quite slow so most choose to level as enhancement at least part of the way to 70.

Tier 1

  • Improved Healing Wave (5 points) - Reduces the casting time of your Healing Wave spell by 0.5 sec. Half a second can be an eternity while healing, a must have talent.
  • Tidal Focus (5 points) - Reduces the mana cost of your healing spells by 5%. This cuts 36 mana off the cost of max rank healing wave and 27 mana off max rank chain heal which definitely adds up over the course of a fight.

Tier 2

(5 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Improved Reincarnation (2 points) - Reduces the cooldown of your Reincarnation spell by 20 min and increases the amount of health and mana you reincarnate with by an additional 20%. Generally a place to put filler points, nice but not must-have.
  • Ancestral Healing (3 points) - Increases your target's armor value by 25% for 15 seconds after getting a critical effect from one of your healing spells. Each jump of Chain Heal has an independent chance to crit, so this talent can proc on multiple people at once. Excellent tool if main tank healing. You can spam rank one Healing Wave before a pull to buff a tank with this.
  • Totemic Focus (5 points) - Reduces the mana cost of your totems by 25%.

Tier 3

(10 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Nature's Guidance (3 points) - Increases your chance to hit with melee attacks and spells by 3%. Not usually taken by Resto shaman, but is a staple talent for the two other specs.
  • Healing Focus (5 points) - Gives you a 70% chance to avoid interruption caused by damage while casting any Shaman healing spell. Great talent for both PVE and PVP.
  • Totemic Mastery (1 point) - The radius of your totems that affect friendly targets is increased to 30 yards. Adds 10 yards to the radius of totems, 20 yards to the diameter of their effect. An excellent talent for only one point.
  • Healing Grace (3 points) - Reduces the threat generated by your healing spells by 15% and reduces the chance your spells will be dispelled by 30%. A must have for pvp oriented shaman. The threat reduction is useful for pve shaman.

Tier 4

(15 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Restorative Totems (5 points) - Increases the effect of your Mana Spring and Healing Stream Totems by 25%. Increases mp5 granted by mana spring by 12.5 mp5.
  • Tidal Mastery (5 points) - Increases the critical effect chance of your healing and lightning spells by 5%. Synergy with Ancestral Healing.

Tier 5

(20 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Healing Way (3 points) - Your Healing Wave spells have a 100% chance to increase the effect of subsequent Healing Wave spells on that target by 6% for 15 seconds. This effect will stack up to 3 times. Excellent talent to have while main tank healing.
  • Nature's Swiftness (1 point) - When activated, your next Nature spell with a casting time less than 10 sec. becomes an instant cast spell. Can be used with healing or lightning spells.
  • Focused Mind (3 points) - Reduces the duration of any Silence or Interrupt effects used against the Shaman by 30%. This effect does not stack with other similar effects. Excellent pvp talent, useful for pve if you have the points to spare.

Tier 6

(25 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Purification (5 points) - Increases the effectiveness of your healing spells by 10%. Applies to Earth Shield only when it is cast on yourself as the heals from Earth Shield on another target counts as their healing, not yours.

Tier 7

(30 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Mana Tide Totem (1 point) – Requires 5 points in Restorative Totems. Summons a Mana Tide Totem with 5 health at the feet of the caster for 12 sec that restores 6% of total mana every 3 seconds to group members within 20 yards. A great talent as it restores a nice chunk of mana to yourself and all party members in range.
  • Nature's Guardian (5 points) - Whenever a damaging attack is taken that reduces you below 30% health, you have a 50% chance to heal 10% of your total health and reduce your threat level on that target. 5 second cooldown. Great for pvp and for 5-man instances. Less effective in a raid setting as if you are being hit you are likely going to die.

Tier 8

(35 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Nature's Blessing (3 points) - Increases your spell damage and healing by an amount equal to 30% of your Intellect. Excellent investment of 3 talent points, increases your healing and helps out in soloing.
  • Improved Chain Heal (2 points) - Increases the amount healed by your Chain Heal spell by 20%. Makes Chain Heal even more powerful than it already is. A must have.

Tier 9

(40 points required in the Restoration Tree)

  • Earth Shield (1 point) - Protects the target with an earthen shield, giving a 30% chance of ignoring spell interruption when damaged and causing attacks to heal the shielded target for 270. This effect can only occur once every few seconds. 6 charges. Lasts 10 minutes. Earth Shield can only be placed on one target at a time and only one Elemental Shield can be active on a target at a time. The heal from the charges counts toward the person whom the shield is on, thus is a good way to give your tank a jump on threat. Also good to use on a caster to help reduce spell pushback.

Typical Points Spent

The resto tree is overloaded with great talents, so taking only 41 points in the tree is rare. There are quite a few different variations of the resto spec, however there are talents which are common to all of them. They are as follows:

  • 5/5 Improved Healing Wave
  • 5/5 Tidal Focus
  • 3/3 Ancestral Healing
  • 1/1 Totemic Mastery
  • 5/5 Healing Focus
  • 5/5 Restorative Totems
  • 3/3 Healing Way
  • 1/1 Nature's Swiftness
  • 5/5 Purification
  • 1/1 Mana Tide Totem
  • 3/3 Nature's Blessing
  • 2/2 Improved Chain Heal
  • 1/1 Earth Shield

It is typical for entry level raid healing to put all 61 points into the resto tree as follows: 0/0/61. Some people opt for the 0/5/56 build instead, but if you have 10 000 mana, Ancestral Fortitude only gives an extra 500 mana, enough for just one extra spell. In T5/T6 content there are many fights involving raid-wide elemental damage so another variation is the 8/0/53 build. Finally, if you find yourself grouped with hunters/feral druids you can go with a variation of a 0/12/49 build to buff your Grace of Air and Strength of Earth totems.
