Five Second Rule (WoW)

The Five Second Rule (a.k.a. FSR or 5SR) is a term used to describe the mechanics of casting and spirit based mana regeneration. Basically, every time a spell that uses mana is cast the caster will not receive any Spirit based mana regen for five seconds. Each time a spell is cast, it will refresh this five second period. (Note that the Druid Talent Intensity and the Priest Talent Meditation both allow up to 30% of the Spirit based mana regen to continue inside the FSR)

On the character sheet, this is designated under the Spells dropdown beside "Mana Regen:". Mana regen "while casting" is considered inside the Five Second Rule. Mana regen "while not casting" is considered outside the Five Second Rule.

A note about zero mana spells. A spell that does not cost the caster mana, does not start the five second countdown. Some examples of zero mana spells include:

  • Mage's Clearcasting proc
  • Priest's Clearcasting proc
  • Priest's Inner Focus use
  • Priest's Surge of Light proc
