See Shaman Talent Builds

The Enhancement Tree is the shaman talent tree which focuses on melee damage. It contains talents which boost melee damage done by the shaman, allows the shaman to duel wield, and increases the benefit Totems give to the party.

Primary uses

The Enhancement tree is generally regarded as the levelling tree as it is faster than trying to level as resto and has more available gear options than elemental. In a raid setting an enhancement shaman brings arguably the best buff to the melee group in Windfury totem. They are also able to hold their own as respectable damage dealers.

Tier 1

  • Ancestral Knowledge (5 points) - Increases your maximum mana by 5%. Not a stellar talent by any means, but a little extra mana is more beneficial than the other tier one talent.
  • Shield Specialization (5 points) - Increases your chance to block attacks with a shield by 5% and increases the amount blocked by 25%. No real benefit for pve shaman.

Tier 2

(5 points required)

  • Guardian Totems (2) - Increases the amount of damage reduced by your Stoneskin Totem and Windwall Totem by 20% and reduces the cooldown of your Grounding Totem by 2 sec. Excellent talent for pvp, can pass on it for pve.
  • Thundering Strikes (5) - Improves your chance to get a critical strike with your weapon attacks by 5%. Crits are a huge part of the enhancement shaman play style so this is an essential talent.
  • Improved Ghost Wolf (2) - Reduces the cast time of your Ghost Wolf spell by 2 sec. 2 points in this talent make Ghost Wolf instant. An important factor in pvp and a great place for filler points in a pve build.
  • Improved Lightning Shield (3) - Increases the damage done by your Lightning Shield orbs by 15%. Not a bad talent while levelling however it loses importance once you learn Water Shield and begin to use it instead.

Tier 3

(10 points required)

  • Enhancing Totems (2) - Increases the effect of your Strength of Earth and Grace of Air Totems by 15%. Great buff to yourself and your party members as you will generally always be dropping at least Strength of Earth.
  • Shamanistic Focus (1) - After landing a melee critical strike, you enter a Focused state. The Focused state reduces the mana cost of your next Shock spell by 60%. This helps negate a huge amount of the cost of using a shock every time it's up.
  • Anticipation (5) - Increases your chance to dodge by an additional 5%. Not a bad talent while levelling, but in instances and raids you should not be getting hit so the points are better spent elsewhere.

Tier 4

(15 points required)

  • Flurry (5) - Requires 5 points in Thundering Strikes. Increases your attack speed by 30% for your next 3 swings after dealing a critical strike. An excellent talent.
  • Toughness (5) - Increases your armor value from items by 10%, and reduces the duration of movement slowing effects on you by 50%. Don't spend points here.

Tier 5

(20 points required)

  • Improved Weapon Totems (2) - Increases the melee attack power bonus of your Windfury Totem by 30% and increases the damage caused by your Flametongue Totem by 12%. A great buff to your Windfury totem, a must have for a raiding shaman.
  • Spirit Weapons (1) - Gives a chance to parry enemy melee attacks and reduces the threat generated by your melee attacks by 30%. Threat reduction is always good, a must have talent.
  • Elemental Weapons (3) - Increases the damage caused by your Rockbiter Weapon by 20%, your Windfury Weapon effect by 40% and increases the damage caused by your Flametongue Weapon and Frostbrand Weapon by 15%. A nice chunk of your damage will come from Windfury procs so this is an important talent.

Tier 6

(25 points required)

  • Mental Quickness (3) - Reduces the mana cost of your instant cast Shaman spells by 6% and increases your spell damage and healing by an amount equal to 30% of your attack power. Gives your Shock spells a little more power and reduces their cost.
  • Weapon Mastery (5) - Increases the damage you deal with all weapons by 10%. Get it.

Tier 7

(30 points required)

  • Dual Wield (1) - Allows one-hand and off-hand weapons to be equipped in the off-hand. An important talent to get as duel wielding has been shown to do more damage than using 2-handed weapons.
  • Dual Wield Specialization (3) - Increases your chance to hit while dual wielding by an additional 6%. Another important talent as duel wielding has a higher miss rate.
  • Stormstrike (1) - Instantly attack with both weapons. In addition, the next 2 sources of Nature damage dealt to the target are increased by 20%. Lasts 12 seconds. The buff applies to your nature damage as well as to that of anyone else in the raid (elemental shaman, moonkin druids, even the hunter pet type Wind Serpent).

Tier 8

(35 points required)

  • Unleashed Rage (5) - Causes your critical hits with melee attacks to increase all party members' melee attack power by 10% if within 20 yards of the Shaman. Lasts 10 seconds. Yet another great party wide buff.

Tier 9

(40 points required)

  • Shamanistic Rage (1) - Reduces all damage taken by 30% and gives your successful melee attacks a chance to regenerate mana equal to 30% of your attack power. Lasts 15 seconds. A great way to refill your mana bar in pve and is also a good pvp talent.

Typical Points Spent

Example raid build
Example raid build
There are so many key talents in the Enhancement tree that there are not many filler points to spend. The essentials are:

  • 5/5 Thundering Strikes
  • 2/2 Enhancing Totems
  • 1/1 Shamanistic Focus
  • 5/5 Flurry
  • 2/2 Improved Weapon Totems
  • 1/1 Spirit Weapons
  • 3/3 Elemental Weapons
  • 5/5 Weapon Mastery
  • 3/3 Duel Wield Specialization
  • 1/1 Duel Wield
  • 1/1 Stormstrike
  • 5/5 Unleashed Rage
  • 1/1 Shamanistic Rage

(This leaves 5 points to spent in the first tier, 2 filler points to open up the following tier, and generally 3/3 Mental Quickness)

The remaining 16 points are spent in the resto tree in order to get Nature's Guidance and Totemic Mastery. The first 10 points are filler so can technically be spent however you like, but generally an enhancement raid build looks like the image to the right.
