Leatherworking is a profession focused on crafting items out of leather goods and similiar materials.
Contents [hide] |
Most obviously, leatherworking makes leather armor. There are also armor kits that can be applied to certain items for a bonus, similiar to enchants, as well as quivers and ammo pouches for hunters. At later levels, leatherworking expands into also some types of mail armor.
List of Leatherworking products
Leatherworking needs, well, leather! Leather typically comes from skinning dead beasts. A majority of the other materials needed for LW come from skinning as well, such as the scales for mail armor.
Leatherworking is a good personal tradeskill and a so-so one for supporting other players. It is primarily taken up by classes that initially use leather armor. (Rogues, druids, shamans, hunters.)
In terms of making money, leatherworking is not wonderful, but there are a few select patterns that can be capitalized on, especially depending on your specialization.
The benefits of being your own leatherworker include certain high-end pieces of equipment, and there are some recipes that drop in instances that are bind on pickup, as are the items they make. Leatherworkers can also create and use Drums of Battle, Drums of Panic, Drums of Restoration, Drums of Speed and Drums of War which are desired in some raid encounters.
Beyond a skill level of 225 (and character level 40,) leatherworkers can choose to specialize in Tribal, Elemental, or Dragonscale leatherworking. Each style is catered toward particular combat.
Each has its own quest(s) to begin.
This is by no means a complete list.
Quests that are just for leatherworkers
Quests that require products from a leatherworker:
They've given Leatherworkes a pair of leather armor sets to get you going in the new content. There's one for casters and one for melee.
The melee set is called Borean Embrace and includes set bonuses:
2 Pieces increases your critical strike rating by 15 4 pieces increases your attack power by 40
The set is as follows:
Piece | Armor | Agility | Stamina | AP | Crit | Hit Rating | Materials |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Arctic Boots | 218 | 32 | 30 | 54 | 10 Borean Leather | ||
Arctic Chestpiece | 326 | 43 | 42 | 76 | 10 Borean Leather | ||
Arctic Leggings | 277 | 36 | 74 | 46 | 10 Borean Leather | ||
Arctic Belt | 188 | 33 | 32 | 31 | 8 Borean Leather | ||
Arctic Gloves | 198 | 34 | 25 | 28 | 8 Borean Leather | ||

Totals | 1451 | 145 | 193 | 296 | 77 | 28 | 54 Borean Leather |
The caster set doesn't appear to give any set bonuses at the moment, all of the pieces just have "Verdant Tundra" in the names. Remember that with the changes to WotLK, Spellpower now refers to both healing and damage spells. So any spell power bonuses are given to both equally.
Also, because of the way the pieces are spaced it's possible to mix and match the two sets if it makes sense to do so with your spec.
Piece | Armor | Intellect | Spirit | Stamina | Spellpower | Materials |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
Verdant Tundra Boots | 238 | 23 | 45 | 44 | 8 Borean Leather | |
Verdant Tundra Bracers | 151 | 15 | 20 | 36 | 6 Borean Leather | |
Verdant Tundra Belt | 195 | 29 | 34 | 47 | 8 Borean Leather | |
Verdant Tundra Cap | 288 | 43 | 51 | 60 | 10 Borean Leather | |
Verdant Tundra Shoulderpads | 266 | 26 | 33 | 44 | 8 Borean Leather | |
Totals | 1138 | 136 | 53 | 130 | 231 | 40 Borean Leather |
There are also 2 new armor kits so far:
Borean Armor Kit - Increases the stamina of head, chest, shoulders, legs, hands or feet by 12 Heavy Borean Armor Kit - Increases the stamina of head, chest, shoulders, legs, hands or feet by 12
In addition to these Leatherworkers will be able to create a 24 slot leatherworking bag o keep all their leatherworking gear in.
If youve been paying attention you'll notice that all of the items found so far for leatherworkers are only leather. We can hope that the mail items for Hunters and Shaman simply haven't been implemented yet.
