Attack Power's Contributing Attributes

The attributes which influence the Attack Power can vary for each class.

Shaman/Warrior/Paladin/Druid

  • 1 point of Strength = 2 points of Melee Attack Power.

Rogue/Hunter/Casters

  • 1 point of Strength = 1 point of Melee Attack Power.

Rogues and Druids in Cat Form receive 1 Melee Attack Power from each point of Agility as well. Hunters receive 1 point of Ranged Attack Power from each point of Agility.

Calculations Involving Attack Power

The most basic calculation for Attack Power is the Damage Per Second (DPS) formula:

  • AP/14=DPS
    • Example: 1400AP/14 = 100 DPS. This DPS is added to the DPS of your equipped weapons (except in the case of feral druids) and gives you your rough auto-attack DPS. Remember, the DPS for an offhand is 50% that of the displayed DPS unless altered via talents for that class.

In the case of special attacks, the previously mentioned DPS from Attack Power is used to determine the Modifer for the ability.

  • AP/14 * Weapon Speed = Modifier -Weapon Speed has been normalized in this equation for the majority of the abilities.
    • Example: 1400/14*2.4 = 240. This Modifier is added to the damage of the special attack
