My interest in gaming stems from the fact that my husband and I have both been playing MMOs together for over 13 years. We have explored many games (Aion, Conan, Everquest, Everquest 2, Guild Wars, Rift, Star Wars Galaxies, etc.). We have also participated in numerous beta-testing events. Gaming is not just a hobby; it is a way of life for us! We have both followed Zam.com for many years.
I have also worked in the field of psychology for over 10 years, thus I cannot help but apply the more scientific side of my brain to whatever I am doing. Through playing MMO’s, I have witnessed the evolution of the gaming world as new technology unfolds. I have also had the opportunity to observe player interaction with other players and with game content in several MMOs. It is my belief that studying MMO’s can provide a wealth of information to the fields of game design, education, and psychology. It is for this reason that I have chosen to study MMO players as part of my dissertation. The topic of which is: Characteristics and Motivation to Play in Adults Who Play Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games.
I am also in the process of developing an online community for individuals who are interested in participating in or contributing to research into online games/virtual worlds. It is in the early stages, but you can find it at mmoresearch.blogspot.com
