Special Task Force

We are pleased to announce the official formation of a special task force as of October 2006 that will operate within the greater management team.

Formation of the Special Task Force

The management and development teams have been continuously working to combat the proliferation of RMT and the use of third-party tools within FINAL FANTASY XI. However, it was decided that the formation of a special task force was necessary to specifically address the various occurrences of misconduct that adversely affect game balance.

Focus of the Special Task Force

This special task force aims to reduce or eliminate altogether any elements that adversely influence the world of FINAL FANTASY XI, and to encourage a fun and fair playing environment. The main targets of the task force are as follows:

- RMT (Real Money Trading)
- Third-party Tools

Please go here to discuss this on the General FFXI Discussion Board.

With regards to RMT, we have begun investigation of around 100 web sites in Japan and 50 in North America, and are planning to focus our efforts on the largest and most active sites (30 or so sites in Japan, and 10-15 sites in North America).

We also plan to continue combating the use of third party tools by introducing measures against a wider range of tools (not just those that increase movement speed), and focusing on particularly notorious individuals and organizations.

Specific Duties

The special task force will continue measures currently being taken against tools that increase movement speed, and also expand investigations to include other types of third-party tools. We plan to focus specifically on those tools that allow automated farming, obstruct gameplay for other players, or are related to RMT activities.

We will address the RMT issue mainly through eliminating the presence of gil sellers, but also by warning or penalizing specific players who buy gil regularly and/or in large amounts.

The task force intends to conduct investigations into gil sellers. These investigations seek to eliminate the channels for RMT transactions, as well as sources of gil, and curtail the activities of those who farm gil for the purposes of RMT.

Results of Current Measures

Pursuant to the announcements on the official FINAL FANTASY XI homepage, we have banned multiple accounts in four separate instances and continue to do so. In comparison to the rising and falling numbers of banned accounts, the number of account holders has seen a steady decline.

When canceling accounts, we have seen a trend towards account holders possessing multiple accounts. During the measures taken in July 2006 this trend was prevalent when banned accounts were held by over 2000 users. However, in October 2006 when 1,400 accounts were banned, the number of account holders had decreased to the 300 mark.

Accordingly, the number of accounts being banned per account holder is increasing, and we are progressing in our efforts to remove organized groups of account holders from the game.

As was previously stated, we have adopted a new method of investigation that reaches beyond the in-game limitations, and targets the actual RMT sites.

Within a month, these investigations into RMT sites have resulted in the termination of around 100 accounts, and the removal of several billion gil from the game. At the same time, we have confirmed that several of these sites have shut down or ceased RMT activities related to FINAL FANTASY XI.

To build on this success, we intend to continue refining our measures against third-party tools and RMT, and further expand our field of investigation. We are working on ways to track repeat offenders, and will continue to bring you announcements concerning all account terminations.

Your Understanding

The special task force will be making all possible progress towards the goals stated above.

However, even with the new methods we have adopted, there still remain some areas that are difficult to cover. Analyzing the game log is a massive undertaking that takes time to produce results and so we ask for your patience in this matter.

To avoid falsely accusing account holders, all investigations will be conducted with equal thoroughness and care. RMT investigations in particular often include organizations formed through multiple accounts, and time must be spent confirming each case.

While it may be initially difficult to see any progress, rest assured that we are building a fair playing environment one dungeon and one notorious monster at a time. While the special task force will be independently gathering information, we also hope to enlist the cooperation of the community in our investigations.

We hope that our players enjoy the game as it was intended and avoid involvement in activities that violate the user agreement.

STF are a waste of space i constantly report the lvl 1 /anon no gear bar fishing rod all on frigging /follow fish bots on the ferry i report to gm's and ask to have it sent to the STF i even use the stupid STF reporting tool on POL's website. Yet the dam bots are still there tell me how there doing there job? coz as far as i know multitasking accounts is against the rules so they can get them just on that.
reporting RMT

Reporting RMT /GS/ Hackers whatever.. seems about worthtless. The GMs do not seem to care at all. I think if somone is acually doing these things, they already know, or can't do anything till they do something illegal, then they know. Just feeling like a waste of time... reporting them that is... thought I will still tell them they were reported, that takes much less time and is fun :)
you will get alot of " ? " from them hehehe.

Dear Special Task Force,

FFXI is a great game and as it evolved in encoutered many difficulties. From now on, i've seen many things like Speedhack, Lotting Hack, Abnormal movement hack, equipment delivery and missions skips (aka SKy hack) and so on. In my opinion, the Windower so many people use isn't really a hack. I know, or so I heard, that FFXi suffred long ago (was it with a such tool?) back in the day when, released in Japan, the equipments datas were on players computers. Nowadays, there are probably people getting a edge on hacking with windower, but a good proportion of those who use it simply do it to 1) play music in the meantime, 2)beign able to stay connect to the "real Wolrd' with messagery programs or forums. In my opinion, priority should be set on 1) real hacks affecting the balance of the game 2) gillselling/buying and 3) various issues regarding NMs. A windowing utility, or at least the possibility to alt-tab during the game would be warm welcomed by manies. I'm looking foward SE to keep this game alive and viable for players and believe they can lokking back on diffrent measures taken.

Thank you,

Blackroses of Siren.

The other day i was in Sky camping a nm, when out of no where rmt warped in and clamed the nm they all died but we called the GM, and they did nothing at all , they said we need proof, We told them at least come here and get there names , after that we had no responds from the GM. So whats going on ? When you have 20 or so RMT laying dead and no on cares . I think Se wants them here and only made up the task force as a show . To make ppl think there doingsome thing about it . I have seen no change with the RMT since this task force was made . I think its gotten worst. So whats up with this task force ? what have they done ?
Gilsellers

Competing with gilsellers suck. Even more so when they turn around and insult you out of the blue because you happen to be competing with their gil making farming activities.

I have been farming in Delkfutt's Tower for what feels like an eternity because it is my only source of income in my quest to finally finish collecting ancient currency to finish my relic weapon. Unfortunately, I still have to farm up tons of gil, but I'd rather spend the time farming and earning it than to turn to a gilseller website and buy it. Anyway, I'm farming in Delkfutt's on Sunday night and I get a /tell from a character I don't know from a hole in the wall.

The convo goes like this:

him: ni hao

(I answer because I know this means "hello" in Chinese)

me: ni hao ^^
him: qu na le?

(now here, I have no idea what he's saying.)

me: {I don't understand.} ><
him: han jian

pause...

him: han jian >.>

silence.

I later find out from a friend of mine who speaks Chinese that the second tell said "Where are you going?"

and... surprisingly... the third tell meant "traitor to China." and it seems that this particular phrase while meaning that is not very flattering anyway. As another Chinese person I asked told me that what had been said was very very bad. But, the basic meaning is "traitor to China."

wtf... I'm not even Chinese!

I think the guy was upset that I was farming there, but I have been farming there for months trying to gather gil so that I can sponsor dynamis runs for currency. Nothing wrong with that, eh?

Anyway... when doing a /sea all on that character... lvl 75 WHM - Rank 1

Gilseller? Most likely.

I wonder if it would have been a legitimate use of the GM system to report that guy. I also know some other characters that are continually in Delkfutt's farming stuff day in and day out... farming and camping Enkelados and other NMs in the general area.

This is annoying.... really really annoying. One thing that they are farming and "making a living" that way... another is for them to insult you out of the blue because you choose to farm in "their territory" and they don't like the competition... gawd.

I wish there was a reporting form where you can report certain character names. Especially after an experience like this.

One worked at Gamestop, and one was a customer. I always thought I would be overcome with rage if I was to ever see one IRL, but I didn't. They were talking about it as if it was nothing. Not hiding it... I suppose when you step outside of FFXI, then it really is just a game... Don't get me wrong, the people you play with are real, as are the relationships... but after quitting, I miss the people, not the game. GL on fixing FFXI SE.
Yeah Right.

All I have to say is I will believe it when I see it. Here is an idea, why not turn ALL the RMT targeted items into Rare/ex. All the god pop items in sky rare/ex, all the HNM items rare/ex, everything that cost more than what it is worth. 12mil for Autumnstone? Unfortunaitly I will either not get a Byakko Haidate or wait that much longer to outclaim the now 3 seperate RMT groups camping Ullikummi on Carbuncle. Granted, this will make it harder for ppl to obtain these items being that they would have to be there for that particular mob to be killed. A majority of the HIGH VALUE ITEMS out there need a party or more to defeat the particular mob. Someone in this party could use those items. Those pieces are as much as trophies as they are great pieces. As far as pop items needed to be traded so one person can have both items....work around it. So you will have a couple ppl with different pop items. Either have a reliable person hold it, or wait. RMTs are here to stay ppl. No matter what SE or your LS mates tell you. Take out their main source of income and they will have to rely on crafting. We all know they have a crapload of 100+3 crafters making everything under the sun and making it pointless now adays for a new player to make gil crafting. Not completely, but you can't make as much as you once did for that +1. Good luck SE trying to fix that. But go on with your Delta Force Team. Go get the big bad RMTs. In the mean time I will deal with the 500 or so RMTs on my server. Or I will quit, eventually.
In my opinion, the only way to cripple the RMT market is to take away their income. You did it for the Peacock Charm, Emp. Hairpin, and the Leaping Boots. Why can't you do it for the items that the level 75 players want? We have the gil from our endless days of selling the crap drops we get to NPCs or the good drops to crafters. If we don't buy their items, they don't have the gil to sell.
Yeah Right.
# Nov 10 2006 at 7:49 AM Rating: Decent
Speaking honestly, and yell and shout as I am sure you all will, but speaking from an ex-rmt, making those fantastic drop items all rare/ex is pretty much the way to go, yes, crafting does make money, but with the number of players crafting on their own, it drives the market down and makes it a pain in the butt to farm, garden, fish, then craft. Yes, the hacks and bots do suck, it is a very unfair advantage, but the quick fix is to make it so those items are not sellable, that would be a serious blow to the rmt community. I stopped selling a little over a year ago, mostly cause I hated competing with other rmt's lol, and my wife got pissed when she found out... anyways, SE can go through and do this and that, but if they truely want to be serious, and have other's finally believe them, then they would do what they did with LL and VE, make them not sellable nor tradeable.
Yeah Right.

If you are really Ex-RMT... than thank you ^_^ for 1. being ex and not participating in it any more, and 2. for coming forward with something that SE should really listen to. LL and VE are perfect examples of how to put the biggest crunch on RMT all at once. Make the rest of the needed/wanted items rare/ex. One thing though, please, please make them from quested pops. Right there takes away the need for a lot of hacks. I would much rather spend 3-24 hours running around doing a quest for a guarenteed pop NM, than standing still for the same amount of time just to get outclaimed and start all over. So what there would be a lot less in the AH's..good! If you know what items you want, go quest it or craft it.

hello
well i think 1 way to fight RMT is no let them use tools.
is imposible try claim nothing bcoz this guys use 3` pt programs.
as u guys know 4 use a tool u need to run ffxi in window mode bcoz the tool is running at the same time.
well is really easy to make a rutine in the ffxi program that test and check before u choice u character if you are in a window mode or full screen.
if you in a full screen. test pass u choice character
if you in a window mode. a mesage show something like "sorry final fantasy is unable to continue in a window mode"
of course they going to join forces but this will keep the balance more leveled.
sorry for the people who use windower to take screen captures....
<hmmm>

I have an idea that will stop gil-sellers for a while, though it is a mean idea
but i think it just might work. As i have read again and again from all the post's once u delete one RMT account another take's its place. But what SE isn't thinking about is how they do it. The RMT has to buy a new copy of the game inorder to get back on the server once then have been banned. Instead of banning them - SE making sure that it is a RMT account / hacker, should have a speical download for them. One that sends a virus on there computer to crash there hard drive. I am sure the RMT will spend 30-50 bucks on a new game and codes but i really dont see a RMT buying a new computer every time. Banning playonline ID's, bannin IP address, bannin FFXI players, they can still come back and plague the server, destroy there hard drive - and i think it will take a lil longer than 1 day to get back on the server lol and maybe teach them a thing or 2 about playing by the rules.

A task force
# Nov 08 2006 at 6:57 PM Rating: Decent
WOW theyre finally creating this "task force" after 4 years of rmt going on Whats wrong SE not getting its cut anymore from the gil-seller sites. Besides fighting gil-sellers is like fighting terrorists you kill one another will step up and take his place. RIGHT after the first ban i seen no less than 5 "gilseller" parties leveling in valkurum dunes. (you can always tell by the starting gear no ls and the only thing upgraded is their weapondry plus the nonsensical names like Djhjk plus the anon PL that never answers to your /tell im beginning to believe they are bots) By now theyre playing theyre ksnm game again and we did nothing. The best you can do is play their game. when the prices go up have multiple chars gardening like i did for a LONG time. As inflation kicks in you sell them stockpile gil for the next ban. Next ban when the prices deflate buy all that gear you could NEVER afford. This strategy pays off literally.

BY the way i know there is typos and i really dont give a care.

All I know is a year ago I paid 5 mil for my Haubie and now it's worth less than 2. Good if the economy stays like this, bad for immediate resale. RMT's don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon. Belrion, MMOshop.com, and IGE all still seem to have the same amount available for the same price. My response to everything: Who cares?! It's just a game. If the economy gets too screwed, I think about gas prices in the real world and remember, "Oh yeah, FFXI is just a game. I can stop if I want."

U guys tried to think before posting ? ( at least some).
Since RMT made an appearence about 2yrs ago SE has given out announcements every few weeks about how they successfully fight rmt and 3rd party tools and how they successfully banned X accounts of those. . . .that's very old news. Everytimes ppl here are like "omg, finally" or "now they're dlooing something". Like 2 weeks later ppl start like "does anyone miss ANY rmt at all ? the claim botter is still at *random-NM-x* as well. . .". Alot of big words yet nobody see's anything happening.

And. . .

OMG ! ! ! 1 1 1 a special force to combat 3rd pt users and rmt ? Didn't they form that when the game came out ? Didn't they call those guys GM's ? Their purpose being to "enforce" the ToS, eula and common manners ? This announcement makes me wonder a few things:

- wtf do GM's do ? exist in outer space to give a purpose to the otherwisely empty space ?
- If they form the force to fight those rmt/hacker NOW, then what about their statements of fighting them in the past 2 yrs ?

Quote:
We also plan to continue combating the use of third party tools by introducing measures against a wider range of tools (not just those that increase movement speed)

Nobody finds that disturbing, to say the least ?

not just those that increase movement speed

wtf ? So they finally say they that up until now they couldn't care less about ppl warp hacking across half sky to insta claim Ulli ? They couldn't care less about those guys fishbotting (Dvil Manta or fish) 24hrs ? Those aren't violations of the ToS worthy to be upheld or what ?

I dunno bout others, but i give a friggin damn wether someone uses a speed hack to run twice my chocobo speed or not, but i DO fricking care if someone is afk 2hrs to have a bot warp across half the map and instaclaim the freshly popping NM.
. . . .

Glad to see they are still working on ways to combat RMT. Just to point out about your post as well, warping is a movement hack, anything that gets you to a different place faster then it should be able is a movement hack.

Hmm, people are always giving flak to GM's, but you got to remember.

GM's are there, and I'm sure some at least TRY to help. But when you log that call "OMG SOMEONE CLAIMED <insert sky mob> AND THEY HAVE NO LS EQUIPPED< THEY MUST BE SELLING GIL!!!!!!"

What can teh GM do? Ban them all for fighting an NM withotu an LS equipped? It's not the GMs that are at fault, it's that they don;t have enough power

I am so God damned sick of people ******** about GMs not doign their job and being useless. It's not the damned GMs fault.

Im like 80% sure that GMs were placed in the game to help combat
"I'm stuck behind this table" or
"That player keeps spamming me with /t"

Gms do not seem to have any access to rmt abotu a player, so what are they to do?

It's the higher up system that is flawed, so netx tiem you go to make that GM call that a few players claimed an NM, think about how YOU could prove it instead.

It does seem kinda strange that they say

"not just those that increase movement speed"

because I agree that people who warp hack etc are just as bad. I think this is a very bad statement because as you say, what the hell have they been doign all this time?

It's nice to see, however, that progress _is_ being made, because now they are targeting the actual source of rmt. Let's all hope it goes well.

This sounds like a great idea. It will allows those who are still playing the way the game was meant to with out fighting the RMT campers. Unless I missed somthing in the article, SE just stated that they formed a task force. Okay, when are they going to actually implement and have this task force enforce some rules. Having a plan is nice, but you have to go forward with it. I just hope that Se keeps to thier word and actually deals with RMT and third party hackers. Of course new accounts will open to continue on the same path, and the problem will never really be fixed. Well I guess if everyone just stopped playing and left the bots, them maybe. But that won't happen.
the other issue why rmt will be around could possibly be cause some items at the auction house are high, and new players don't have 60k in gil to buy a robe at level 6. i know people can set the price at what ever they want, but that can encourage someone to buy the gil that is for sale. but thats just my opinion.
i look forward to seeing what happens

i still don't see anything changing, my guess would be the people whom get banned will be the ones using windowers, macro assist and such. Not the people using flee hack and tools similiar to old argus tool.

i have seen personnaly seen several instances on fenrir where a known rmt group were using flee and warp tools. Of course, nothing happened to them, the person whom got suspended was the person who tried to mpk them for doing it.

as far as i'm concerned they should get rid of all the current GM and start over. I have yet to ever see or hear of one doing anything against the rmt.

o matter what se does, ppl will still change .dat files and make NMs spawn as behemoth, making it unfair to, ok, those of us that play

You do realize, that in most cases of NMs, like LL, VE and most of the beastmen, the models being used there are recycled to nearby mobs, so if you changed the model for say leaping lizzy, guess what all of the lizards in the area would look like said new model. Which would help you not at all. People overestimate the use of this so called exploit. If they took the ability to change the models out of the game (which would pretty much be impossible) they would **** an entire community of enthusiasts who create custom armor and gear for others to use. Lots of members of that community spend more time doing things like that than they acctually do playing. I seriously feel that if they broke that aspect of the game, it would be very upseting.

As for the "The name is not cool enough" comment. I agree with this, but its in the same vein as SE's general style when it comes to GMs etc and dealing with problems. They're really afraid to show authority... most games GMs are which is somewhat sad. To me, theres nothing more likely to make me not do something bad than seeing an authority figure walk by on occasion. It's like if a cop is driving by you, you're probably less likely to speed for a while (of course reverse psychology applies here to people who want to be "rebels") I think it would be great if GMs made more public apperances. Christ, just have them on a patrol routine while they're not doing anything or just answering questions etc. Would be great to see the Judge's walking around.

That being said, I think MMOs in general, it would be great if they acctually tied the GMs into the story a bit, and made them more of an active force and more of an apparent force. At least thats my opinnion. Not so signifigantly as some might think, just some recognizing that they exist. Like the Judge's are an elite unit under the archduke or some BS, and have them appear more often and crack down more. That being said, if this were the case and a special task force were developed. It would be cool to see what they did with that. :P give them special costumes and when they come down on an RMT they come down hard :P have them come a walking out of a nearby wall and then 1 shot the ******** (though to be honest it would just be more plain fun if they just flagged RMTs to be targetable as enimies by all other players... just make them stop playing out of frustration.)
