wow.

Here I am, late at night, not too tired, just cruising forums. I see a post making fun of the "nerds" complaining. hmm.
First off, if we are all nerds, why are you here reading/posting on the forums?
Second, you have to be intoxicated to play FFXI? Do you have problems? Are you so severely dependent on your alcoholism that you have to drink just to have fun?
Third, if we are all nerdy biotches, why do you post anonymously? Are you that scared of a bunch of internet nerds? There called balls, buddy. Get some.

I am tired of people complaining about us complaining. SE is taking away our play time, and damnit, we have a right to ***** about it. If you have a problem with the "complaining nerds", go to a different website. Sure, I'm complaining about someone complaining about our complaints, but that's my right. And it's your right to post about our complaints, too.

But you, anonymous bast*rd, also have the right to shut the hell up. Use it.

Free time... hmmm.... and it's not spent playing FFXI? Well, since CastleVania: Curse of Darkness hasn't come out yet, I don't think I'll have much to do for quite some time... >.>

I guess... I can sit here and stare at this screen until... SE fixes things...

And BTW "Have any of you ever tried writing a program"... why yes, using the BASIC language. And it IS troublesome, even for such a simple language as this... But you know, companies usually get paid to do things right.

Plus i can relax and get away from this "Crack addicting like game" and spend some good old bed time with the Mrs. We all hate this Mant. but you know what, it might do us some good to get a way for a lil bit, i'm sure it'll be back on in the morn or (most likely) Friday afternoon, but hey need to take a break some time. And is it really that difficult to type the word 'you' to indicate the second person?

Or type out the four letters in 'some'? Sum is the word used when you are adding figures together into a sum.

I think what you mean to say is: All yr base are belong 2 us. U have no chance 2 survive make yr time. hahaha

That makes more sense to me, since it's engrish I can actually read.

To everyone complaining:

First off, about your money. STFU. How much does this game cost you a month? and how many hours are there in a month, minus downtime? 52 cents a day roughly, and thats assuming a 28 day month, so 31 days even less than that. You pay more for your morning paper than you do to play this game for however many hours you get in each month. If you only get in 2 hours a month, fine you got shafted, maybe you should take up something new. If you've played for 10 hours that month...go find something else that is going to cost you 12 and change for 10 hours, and share what it is with the rest of us, cuz I don't know of many things.

As for everyone else not complaining about money just "get it right you retards at SE, gawd!", STFUx2. Have you ever tried to write a program? Programming from scratch is hard enough, programming to modify or maintain something can be even harder sometimes. Every line of code you add or alter can put ghosts and bugs into another line of code, just like hardwiring circuits. One things out of place, and it can **** up a hell of a lot of other things. 3 hour maintenance fine, they need time to look through all of the code they just put in and see what is ******* up on them, I won't begrudge them that. I don't get to play until Saturday now, but so what, I can watch TV, read a book, hell if you are really hard up about the game, you know what you can do?

STRATEGIZE!

That's right, every so often during one of these maintenances, I'll sit and plan out what I want to get done in game that week once it's over. If you know a maintenance is coming, get some AH prices on itesm you can farm, jot them down, and plan a farming trip. IF it's an emergency maintenance, get here on alla, browse the forums, maybe find a piece of equipment you awnt or a few missions and quests you can clean up when you get back on, and start planning for what you need. There ya go, 10 hours will pass by in no time, unless you sit in front of your com trying to log in every 30 seconds.

In summation, I hope everyone whining here goes out, gets a life, does something more worthwhile than complaining about 50 ****** cents. Take that 50 cents, go buy a candy bar, and torment some goblins(kids at the nearest park), or gigas(fat people at a weight loss center) by eating it really slowly and over-enthusiastically.

I agree with you on the money thing. I don't really see a huge loss in RL funds here, lol.

However, on the programming thing. I'm a professional programmer, working with a design team, and this type of crash after a patch is just... I'm hesitant to say it, since I don't really know their architecture... but to me it just seems unprofessional and rushed, like something a small team of inexperienced developers would do. I work with an Oracle application that gets modified almost monthly and we have a rigorous testing cycle, where modifications get migrated from one testing environment to another and finally into the live environment. I mean...not testing the login servers before releasing the patch into the wild just seems like a blatant oversight to me.

I guess this type of thing happens to all developers at some point -- the dreaded crash at go-live (hasn't happened where I work yet <fingers crossed>), but it seems to happen to SE an awful lot these days. If I were one of the SE execs, I'd be hiring some consultants to figure out what the hell is going on at the developer and test teams.

people look for others to vent anger to, mostly with the same problem and can relate, but then ********* like you come along thinking you are right to put them down and tell them to get a life? what kind of life do you have? let me guess, you go on forums and put others down to make yourself feel better after not being able to play FFXI... or maybe you go out drinking with friends and get drunk and ********** not everyone has anything to do after work or like to hang out with drunk friends in 50 cent strip clubs with chicks you think are girls till you hear one talk! rate down for you a$$ hole

Rate me down all you wan't, I contribute to this board when I can, and don't mind admitting when I'm wrong on aspects of the game.

As for my RL:
I'm a college student, taking 20 credits right now. When I'm not in class, I am at work in a shipping department doing 12 hour shifts, about to step up to 15 to meet the holiday demands, which have already started sadly. That means mondays, I'm in class 9am to 9:30pm, Wednesdays the same, leaving at 8, and getting home around 10:30 or 11, depending on if I catch the bus connections. Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, I leave for work at 6:30am and get home around 9:30pm. Saturdays, I spend half the day doing homework and the other half playing, Sundays, I try to spend the whole day playing or wrapping up assignments I didn't finish through on Saturdays. Yes, it is annoying when I finally have some free time, and can't play, but you know what? There are other things to go out and do. The maintenance doesn't annoy me. People always ******** about it does.

And to the post before this, sorry but I don't see your name at the moment, it is true that it is a slight on their part, but also remember they are rushing to get it back up, and when you rush through any coding, as I'm sure you've experienced, it's easy to miss something, even if it's just a single keystroke or command line. Add onto the regular updates that they are preparing for a new expansion release, and it is easily understood, at least on my part.

Edit:
And to add to complications, it wasn't just coding they were handling, but a full server upgrade...hardware+software=lots of time. Hell, it took me 16hours one day to revamp my system with a AGP upgrade card and Windows 98SE(yeah, awhile ago, thank god I'm on a slowly dying Vaio now years later).

What the HECK is PDT? It said the maintanence would begin at 8:00 (PDT), and I got kicked at 10:20... >.>

And yeah, I hate sounding impatient, but they really do need to get their crap together. We've already paid for the services, they could at least take care of the little details at the END of the month when people are deciding wither or not they want to pay for this game.

I wonder that Fish has gone. A fish, a fish, a fishy fish... ohhhh...

P.S: I hate to jump on the bandwagon of people angry at these updates, but yeah, these do suck. And you know, for the person who said the update happened while we where sleeping, not everyone is awake during the day. Some of us wake up at night to socialize with other outcasts and go to night school, and NEED this game for amusement at 12:00 at night. >.>

I've just learned how to change the music, so im bizi converting all the funky lame songs to cool or rockin tunz. Still deciding on battle songs, but changed all the city songs and the airship, lol, they were getting old. Stick to instrumental or minimal singing, or you will get tired of em real soon, I think.

Excuse me but what job do you work that gives you money to throw away? I do a lot during maintenances, play with my kids, watch a movie, play a different game. And sure i dont like the long maintenances, but its SE's oh wait another 2-3 hours which throws the wrench into the works of everyone who plays this game. Tell me if you were owner of a company or store, and you were paying someone to do a job on time, yet he doesnt do it on time, is he doing the job hes paid for? no. people pay SE for their services to be prompt and dont want their money to be wasted on extentions. Everyone is entited to their opinion, but dont come here to bash others with your believes of better things. They came to vent which is better than doing other obvious things that can hurt themselves or others.

This is for the dum assss NSX Scholar. I am not sure if your asleep or not but the damn maintenace started from 8:00 am pst - 18:00 pm pst. So you think this is our night time? what people were saying was SE always chooses to do maintenance in USA day time instead of *** asss day time. Dont you get it fool? What you were saying was you love SE doing this crap to us? I guess SE let you sucked their dik so much and you can't even tell the diff between night and day ; ;

this is utter BS, im sorry, a 9 file update took 10hrs, then more maintence for another 3hrs... incredible, its mind boggling. I tried to not belive in the whole, spoil the Japanese becaus we are SE, but each and every update recently, (besides 1 that i know of) has been in NA Primetime, while the Japanese get to play the entire day...

Did u even read what the first update was for "The backbone of the PlayOnline sever equipment will be exchanged." meaning its a hardware update not software hence no files. As for the second update ya that sux but i was getting such horrible lag after the first one that ide rather wait 3 hrs then deal with the lag.

patience is a virtue.

I almost sided against posting this, so I don't sound contradictory since I'm checking this site...

But most of you people need to socialize. You sit here, and I'm guessing at this (and most stereotypes are true) ... check to see if you can log on to POL every 5 minutes so you can sit there on FFXI and camp an NM. I'm all for playing the game as I enjoy meeting and playing with new people, but in all seriousness... if you destroy all your damn plans to sit here and play rather than actually associate with other HUMAN beings that DON'T play FFXI... that's just effin' stupid.

*edit* And to people saying they're going to sue SE for not refunding for prolonged maintenance time... Firstly, I doubt any of you lame idiots would have the kahoons to actually follow through with the plan. And secondly, if they didn't do maintenance, I guarantee that half of you on here would still be ******** and moaning of glitches, bad items, unfair gameplay, hackers, and all of the like. Considering that, you know... THAT'S WHAT SE FIXES WHEN THEY DO MAINTENANCE. Morons.

# Oct 20 2005 at 10:46 PM Rating: Decent
all the down time is crap and i feel we the people paying to PLAY should be refunded at least part if not all of our monthly fees when it comes to the down time being more then half the time like it has been lately!

It is SE's job to keep the servers running 24/7 and thats what we pay for so why is it all we get are bullsh*t aplogies when what every one really wants is a refund!

If other companys (Phone, Cable and others) can give prorated refunds for lost service then why shouldn't SE?

Step up SE at do the right thing! and stop shutting down the servers on just american play time and at least rotate between service times so EVEN japan can lose a whole day of play as well!

I said my piece and i hope others join in and complain to SE so they know we are pissed! (and ready to sue!)

The downtime is biased against US and EU playtimes...but we can't do anything about it.

The downtime is excessive because they can't fix their own server/DDoS problems...but we can't fix that.

We pay them millions each month and they provide us with a great game, but s&*%%y service and an insane number of apologies that are all identical (and, in my opinion, insincere. I've read the SAME F-ing "apology" 40 times now lol)

Yeah, I came home and wanted to play, but thankfully I expected this...yet ANOTHER extended update. My only problem is that they lie to us every single time they do an update. They ALWAYS go long, so why not tell us the real time they will take? I wouldn't have a problem with it if they would just be honest and stop the "oops, give us another 4 hours...its not our fault! Really! Oh, did I say 4 hours? Make that 10 hours.....) Is SE really that incompetent? Do they really fail to predict a longer-than-stated update EVERY TIME?

Whatever. At this point I still love playing the game, but I have no respect for the people who run it because they are simply NOT honest anymore.
