Everyone trying to squeeze in line for the download sure isn't speeding up the download of those waiting on it right now. Give it an hour or so and try again rather than clicking retry every 5 seconds.

I myself just gave it a shot and still can't get in line. I have a friend who is hours away from me and is new to the game. FFXI is the only way I can get in touch with her, and she's not familiar with the Friends List yet. Last i heard she was being abused by her boyfriend and I want on not to play but to make sure she's alright.

Maybe go check out Nobuo Uematsu's band "The Black Mages" on the net while you wait. He was one of the main producers of many FFXI songs. They play FF songs in a progressive metal style. Maybe not your thing but they're very talented.

I need something to keep me from wanting to go bring justice to a woman beater, which would probably get myself in trouble anyhow. The Black Mages are doin the trick, though just barely ^.~

I dont see how it can be a good thing at all.
there are too many lvl 75 chars as it is,
so what does SE do ??? they make it easier to get to 75.
in a few months there is going to be hundreds more 70+ charecters overcrowding the higher lvling areas.

They should have a set number of high levels. That way if someone else wants to actually be able to do something in the game they can wait untill someone else quits -.-

Im a 70PLD so i cant speak for those that are lvl 75s. I have mixed feelings towards this issue 1) im glad it happened cuz now it wont be so hard for me to get to lvl 75. 2)That holds true for other players and yes it does save them hours of gameplay/experience and I too am pretty choked about that. Fact is its done nothing we can do, but theres also other variables ppl seemed to forget about to reaching 75. Ppl will still have to deal with Genkai and Sky, I think those in itself will separate the so called "noobs"/inexperienced players to those thats worked hard to get to where their at. Im sure when players get to the point of G1, G2, G5 and the ZM battles that is what will slow them down. So i say let them get their "xp bonus" theres still challenges ahead that creates that fine line between us all.

Im pretty much going to be close to 63 at the end of the patch and Im EXTREMLY HAPPY about this exp curve.Like a poster earlier said, sorry but some of us have real lives to think about and don't have the time to do long *** experiance grinds. Killing one mob for hours and hours on end is not my idea of fun I don't know about you? I want to get to end game and be able to participate in all that stuff. Ive been playing for 14 months now so Id certainly not consider myself a noob.

Besides I got "SCREWED" myself when they changed fishing due to the fact I worked 3 long hard months to aquire a Lu Shang rod that can now be obtained at 1/3 the time and the rod is extremly gimped compared to before as well. No one seemed to care about the high lvl fishers when that went down so I certainly don't give a damn about anyone who is crying over the exp cahnge. Get on with it, thats what I did, and think about all your somewhat lower lvl friends that will be able to join you more quickly

The update is being downloaded by everyone now and it's done, all those level 75 - WELL DONE now try it again without the sharp incline at 60.
If your so hurt by the exp thresholds changing maybe the game isn't just a game for you anymore. If you are so inclined put a message in your little message box saying "I did it the hard way" or maybe you just dont want anyone else to pty with except the limited number of people you pty with now? Some of us still will take pride in maxing out our stats even if the levelling comes a bit faster. Skill up anyone?
I'm not even close to 51 yet but I think this gives more people a chance to enjoy "end game"

just my 2 gil
I'm ok with it...

I feel bad for the 75s cause they did have to work like hell. I think this will benefit RDMs in the 62+ area who were suffering from burn out. I'm currently 68 soI will be getting up in the 70s soon Hey I am not gonna complain. Too bad I cant get on to see my tnl. ^^
EXP change a good thing?
# Apr 20 2005 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
For those having *any* pro-EXP change thoughts, a little scenario for you to think about:

The time and effort it took some people to get to 70 would have, after this patch, put them at 75 (approximately). That's the 5 hardest levels to go through in the game (1. because of the insane amount of EXP required per level and 2. because it is very difficult to find mobs that would be IT to 75's making it rare to get EXP from a kill over 200 EXP even with chains) that have been completely negated.

All those people at 75 just had all that thrown back in their faces (and everyone else with a job beyond 51 in some small degree).

In my opinion, the only way anyone could like this patch is if you're low-level, self-serving, and don't care about what a large majority of the server's backbone players just had happen to them. There's EXP in there that SE more or less just decided these players don't get anymore. There's time AND gil (food, arrows, other consumables) that were spent working through EXP that doesn't exist in the game anymore. How is that good?

The *only* way this EXP change would be good is if the EXP was retroactive in the form of merit points, further levels (for those under 75 and able to take on more levels), etc.
RE: EXP change a good thing?
# Apr 20 2005 at 5:13 PM Rating: Decent
Hmmm seems to me if it was hard to find mobs giving that much exp for you at 70-75 the same mobs and levels still exist so it will still be hard just not quite as time consuming.

Or is that thinking too objectively?

EXP to 75 constant, SLOPE changes
# Apr 20 2005 at 4:40 PM Rating: Excellent
Please look at the official SE exp graph. It clearly shows that the major change will be in creating a steady increase in experience required per level, as opposed to before which would have step-wise jumps every 5 levels. It also clearly shows that you will still have to get the same total amount of experience points to get 75. All this means that amount of exp to get to 70 will be less, but total amount of experience is the same.

OFFICIAL EXP GRAPH:

WOW correction they removed that picture from that location. I'll try and find it on playonline.com...

No, the total amount of XP to get to any level past 50 is certainly lower. You're reading the graph wrong -- the height of the curve isn't the amount of XP total required to get to that level, it's TNL at that level (otherwise in those places where the old curve is horizontal it'd imply that you skip over several levels).

Calculus, folks; gotta learn to look at the integral, not the derivative. :P
RE: EXP to 75 constant, SLOPE changes
# Apr 20 2005 at 4:49 PM Rating: Decent
Good point, so the area underneath this curve is the total experience required to get to 75. So yes you're right it is significantly lower. HAHA oh well. I wonder why they took that graph down? I can't find it on playonline anywhere.
XP Scroll
# Apr 20 2005 at 4:32 PM Rating: Decent
I think a good idea would be for square enix to give a portion of the xp back in a scroll, whether that be 50k all the way to 125k. After all you had to work extremely hard for it. However it's also great for us who don't have the time to Static everyday that there is 125k less xp (if that amount is correct). But I do understand the frustration of finally getting to 75 and cha ching they change the xp for tnl's 50-75.
whining about xp
# Apr 20 2005 at 4:32 PM Rating: Default
For all you people that are whining that "I'm level 75 i did it the way that it was originally and since SE changed the system YOUR ALL NOOBS for being happy" just stfu. So what they changed the xp system big whoop, crafters will make more money, more higher lvl items will be available, ecc.

Just because alot of us actually have a life or aren't able to play the game that often its a good thing for us. I've been playing for over a year and a half now and only have a lvl 62 and a few lvl 30 just because i work and have kids. So instead of bashing on SE for not doing something like this awhile ago and u getting screwed over on experience be happy about it being lvl 75 is boring anyways i mean alls u have to do at that lvl is A. find another job to lvl or B. get the best equipment you can because theres nothing else for you to do.
Experience
# Apr 20 2005 at 4:28 PM Rating: Default
My only concern about the new experience system is that we will have more Noobs at the higher levels.
RE: Experience
# Apr 20 2005 at 5:02 PM Rating: Decent
I think it'll be okay since it doesn't affect anything before lvl 51. By lvl 30, one should have a really good understanding of their job and how to play it well. If they're still a noob after that, they either bought the char, power-leveled it the whole way, or inherited it from a friend. [imo, of course]

It's not so much that us "exp whiners" are complaining for the change to benefit all. In fact, I'm glad that there's less exp to worry about. However, consider this...

I am a Level 64RDM with 1 exp TNL because of the new shift. Had I been at level 52 today and spent the time I took to get to 64, the experience cut instead would make me a LVL 68 RDM. Pretty big difference, huh?

At 65, compared to the old system, I get one free level to 74. That'll save me an hour for each level. So I can't complain about that.

But consider what I mentioned above before any flames go to people 51+. For people who are lvl75, it's even worse. They had 97,000 exp disappear... which translates into 19.4 hours if you were exping at 5K per hour.

ALSO... say you were a Ninja or Ranger... REGARDLESS of what level you are, imagine how much an extra 19.4 hours of playing would have cost you getting ninja tool and ammunition. Now, that's something worth complaining about.

An XP scroll for 125k? I think all that extra xp you had to get drove you mad!

Personally, I respect the hardworking high lvl characters who took the time to get their levels. I dont feel this takes away from their time and effort spent. I dont recall any of the higher lvl fisherman ******* about the system being changed there so you can level in half the time.

People are acting as if SE made it harder on the higher level players. Does this XP update mean that you can now achieve merits faster than you used to? If so then you really have nothin to beef about.

This change makes perfect sense to me. If you feel you wasted your time getting to 75, why do you even play? I've invested quite alot of time myself and I dont see that changing much.

"It's not fair :( I hate you SE... blah blah..."
Heres some advice, go get yourself a tissue and wipe those tears. No one likes a whiner, much less a high level who complains when they make an improvement to the system. What would you have them do? Its not like you have to start all over at lvl 50.

You have updates that directly affect you. You get new gear and spells. There are new quests and missions for you to complete. STFU!!!!

Maybe SE should lower the cap back to 50 and rank 5? Take out all the expanded areas and updated quests. Remove all the nice equip that has been added, and all the newer spells. All the recipes for the goods and foods we wouldnt have thought of going without before. Take away the extra advanced jobs....

You guys kill me. Something gets better and you bash it cause you had it harder. Theres always someone who had it harder than you, or have you forgotten? Better yet, lets go back to the days before television and computers. Before lights and electricity. Grow a set an get over it or just give it up!

First, I am a PS2 player.

This is the first time I've ever had a problem getting in after an update. Sure, it might not be able to get the update immediately, but usually, if I start the update again the next morning and let it run while I am getting ready for work, by the time I am ready to go, the update is done...

Today is the first time I've had an issue with getting in after the update. No big deal... I'll just try again tonight...

It is sad how everytime they do an update, everyone freaks out, scream on these boards, claim the game sucks cause they can't get in for "4 days", and then continue to play...

If you think the game sucks, then quit. Try another MMORPG, but be warned... They all go through stuff like this...

If you want to complain to SE, then do so. However, my suggestion is that you are respectful when doing it... Getting on the phone or sending E-mail that screams "you suck SE, %@#% you..." won't help. Those messages will get ignored.

I've actually sent mail to SE regarding issues or suggestions I have, but I do so in a calm manner. You know what? Most have gotten responses, including so that have become back and forth discussions. Two such occasions were regarding the XP needed and fishing. Both have now been fixed IMHO. Fishing is more interactive and fun and the XP curve has been evened out.

(FYI, I have great respect for the the ppl who got a Lu Shangs or 75 under the old system. Bravo. However, I'd hate to say it, but your lvl or acommplishments don't make you less of a Noob. Several high lvls on my server prove that every day).

End result is, you knew the update was coming. Plan accordingly. Be prepared to do something else. Have a complaint? Submit it like an adult.
Just stop whining.
