Death to Freeport!

Do You Hate the New* Freeport?

*(well it's not that new... how about "revised version")

Vendors Outside the Hall of Truth

You could always do what Death Templar did... do a bunch of quests involving the city and kill half the citizens. Sounds like a fun afternoon.

I agree with you, however if daybreak is feeling lazy and doesn't want to put newer npcs into the old freeport, then they wouldn't have to put any real work into it except for that warning.

One of the reasons that was originally given for the Freeport revamp was that the old city was too confusing to get around in. And the *new* Freeport is their idea of an improvement? I could walk directly to any place I needed to be in the old Freeport without ever getting lost. Anyone who thinks the old Freeport was too difficult to get around in probably also has trouble figuring out which shoe goes on which foot every morning when they get dressed. Please correct this tragic mistake and bring back the original Freeport.

I liked Old Freeport better. I remember taking hugely unnecessary trips from Qeynos to Freeport at very low levels back when there was no expansions. It would be cool if they kept the old freeport around and let you choose which one you wanted to zone into. Could give a message like "Zoning into the old version will not spawn certain npcs and some quests may not be completable, You have been warned" I could imagine plenty of people still zoning into it to play around.

There's no reason why any NPC should be excluded. There were always plenty of vacant buildings and other areas where the new NPC's could have been placed without replacing the entire city.

I started 'round about Ykesha as an Ikky Monk and by the time I ever had a toon who could go to (Old)Freeport (or Oasis of Marr) they didn't exist anyway.

I do recall conversations with an older brother who was on from launch about such things.

Does anyone remember Ciktik {E'ci} or Yiktin{Stromm}?

As an old school Human Pally who's starting city was the old Freeport, I took a dim view to a revamp of my hometown. Seeing the final product though, was just a huge disappointment. I hate the "new" design, still get lost trying to find my way through it, and for the most part, try to avoid going there at all.

Highpass Hold was another fubar of a zone revamp...

All of the older zones with updated graphics are a mess. They should put all the older zones that existed before the graphics revamp back to their original configurations and save the updated graphics for newer content.

When playing on the progression server I finally learned to somewhat navigate new freeport. That being said I still hate it. I wish they would just stick the old Freeport back in the game. Just stick a teleportation gnome in the caster tower to get to the POR expansion and be done with it. I have never found anyone who actually likes the changes. Just a big mass of mazey buildings with nothing interesting to really see.

Maybe daybreak will consider doing this. Heck Project 1999 has a pretty spot on spawn of the original Freeport assuming there are no backups of the original database for old freeport.

Would have been nice to have seen the old Freeport again on the new progression servers.
I'll just have to try and remember it as it was from my memories all those years ago.
exercise in futility

I think I've only encountered 1 or 2 players who admit to liking the new Freeport. I sure didn't like it. And that's not to say it isn't remarkably well designed and interesting to explore. But from the day it went live it always struck me as misdirected effort and it also was competing against players' nostalgic memories of the original Freeport... however crude and old-fashioned those zones were most players who go way back had fond memories of time spent in Freeport. The new Freeport was introduced in whatever expansion brought along fun zones like The Devastation with the introduction of the then "ground-breaking" idea of destructible content. I guess since they were going to make Freeport the conduit zone to get to Devastation they figured let's just overhaul that zone too since we're doing the design work anyway.

I think if the "new" Freeport had been a nexus zone reached FROM the old Freeport, which means the old zone would still be around, players would be fonder of the new zone. I know I would.

But I'm old school.... I feel the same way about Misty Thicket. I thank the Gods they never got around to destroying Butcherblock Mountains!
