Is Kunark Coming to Ragefire?

Here's a little weekend news:

The Everquest Community News is asking the question, Is it time to release the Kunark expansion on the Ragefire server?

It’s that time for the Ragefire progression server… the voting period to unlock the Ruins of Kunark is almost upon us!

Ruins of Kunark

Starting around Midnight Pacific Time on the morning of Monday, August 24, 2015, Ragefire players will be able to vote to unlock Kunark for their server. This vote will last for two weeks. Once the vote starts, any character that is level 30 or higher can go to the Priest of Discord to submit their vote.

After two weeks, if a majority of the server votes to unlock Kunark, that content will unlock at Midnight Pacific Time on the morning of Monday, September 7. If a majority of the server does NOT vote to unlock the Ruins of Kunark on Ragefire, this vote will reoccur every two weeks until the vote passes.

Special note: Once the vote passes, some NPCs, boats, or other game features may require an hour or so to pop up in-game. Transfers from Ragefire to Lockjaw will also be closed during this window in preparation for the content unlock, and the last day for transfers is planned for Monday, August 31.

Lockjaw Players: Due to the time that the raid content was cleared on this server, your Kunark vote is scheduled to start on Tuesday, December 1, 2015.

How will you vote, when the time to unlock the Ruins of Kunark comes to YOUR progression server?

Let the debate begin!

Classic (in my experience) is typically thought of as the base game, Kunark, and Velious.

I agree. A server locked at Velious with that stated as the ruleset from the beginning would likely maintain a viable population. There was a guild doing this on Rodcet Nife Server back when PoP was new. EQ itself referred to it as classic for a few years in a combo disc (as in bundled up) you could buy, back in the days before buying the recent expac caught you up.

Ragefire will vote to unlock Kunark (I hope) and further distinguish itself from Lockjaw. Allowing the transfers between the two implied this pretty strongly. Lockjaw should then (in theory) settle in as the casual, slower pace progression server.

What will get really interesting is if enough players stay around on Lockjaw to actually "lock" it and keep it from progressing at the currently expected pace.

wanting to be slower does not mean Lockjaw is casual...

True.

Having played on Vulak last progression go-around I can say from that server experience that a huge chunk of the playerbase left as soon as the casual pace was pushed by the 3 racing guilds. First big wave of quit was Kunark... it opened there before the casual masses had levelled into voting rights. I can't speak to how Fippy went, though I read an awful lot of forum rage about raid rotations (different topic...).

Current unlock model doesn't really feed the racing mentality much if at all? The longer time in the content on Lockjaw would appeal to casual or hardcore that want to spend time in the content. None of the hardcore types I encountered on Vulak gave any indication that they wanted it to be longer to get the next expac unlocked. I would have expected them to transfer onto the shorter timeframe server given the chance, despite there being too many raiding guilds for the content in the view of some. That doesn't mean there is not a type of hardcore player that will prefer or at least deal with the slower pace of Lockjaw.

Casual progression I can't see a person going for the shorter unlock server when there is a choice. Yes some people will stay put as they started on Ragefire, but I would encourage them to take the transfer while they can.

Could a couple of hardcore guilds thrive and be happy on Lockjaw? I expect so. I hope they recognize the benefit of a slower pace and backbone of below level cap people that want to dabble in the content slowly.
