Upcoming MMO Crowfall Announces Kickstarter

"It's like Game of Thrones meets Eve Online."

If you've ever fantasized over the possibility of having "more Game of Thrones" in your MMORPG, you may have your longtime wishes answered. From creators Gordon Walton (Executive Producer of Ultima Online, The Sims Online, Star Wars: Galaxies and Star Wars: The Old Republic) and J. Todd Coleman (Creative Director of Shadowbane, Wizard101 and Pirate101) comes a brand new entry into the MMORPG genre that's being created by the team at ArtCraft Entertainment.

Prepare to be taken into the world of Crowfall.

Crowfall is an upcoming "Throne War MMO" that aims to take elements from previous titles in its genre and blend them seamlessly with large-scale strategic gameplay—allowing players to battle for territory, resources, and political power in both PvE and PvP encounters. The universe of Crowfall is split up into a series of smaller worlds that circle around a center area known as "The Hunger" where a nightmarish undead legion resides. The closer a world is to The Hunger, the more dangerous–and rewarding–players can expect it to be.

Each world comes with a unique series of long-term objectives or "Campaigns" that last roughly one to three months (real time), or until certain world-specific objectives have been accomplished. As the Campaign in each world rages on, they'll cycle through seasons (Summer, Fall and Winter), becoming increasingly more dangerous as they are further consumed by The Hunger.

Once the Campaign nears its end and a victor is declared, the world will be permanently destroyed. Yes, you read that correctly. According to the developers none of the worlds in Crowfall will be permanent, with the one exception being the "Eternal Kingdoms" which acts as a "Hub World" for players in between Campaigns. Once destroyed, the Campaign worlds will eventually be replaced by a new procedurally generated Voxel-filled world that offers a new Campaign ruleset.

The tiny Voxel building blocks that make up each world (which you may be familiar with from games like Minecraft or Landmark) allow for full destructibility of structures and environments. Because these worlds will ultimately be destroyed, you may want to have fun leaving a path of destruction as you lay claim to the land as well as other player and enemy structures.

With this cycle of world destruction and creation in mind, the idea is that players will need to strategically approach each world and each campaign differently if they plan to lay claim to its riches while gaining additional power and items for themselves or their Guild. Thankfully, all character progress is kept after each Campaign, so you shouldn't have to worry about your characters being swept away in the aftermath each time a Campaign World gets destroyed. Your rewards will stay with you.

Crowfall aims to bring a lot of interesting and unique mechanics to the MMO space. The team at Artcraft Entertainment just announced their Kickstarter for this upcoming MMO, so If you're interested in helping make this game a reality, be sure to check out the Crowfall Kickstarter page in order to make a pledge to the project. As of this morning, the team has already reached over $500,000 out of their $800,000 goal in its first full day, with 28 days left to go to reach their final goal.
