Guild Wars 2: New Daily Achievement System

Next week's patch will bring a new Daily achievement system with new rewards.

Yesterday, ArenaNet announced that the Guild Wars 2's Living World Season 2 is being put on hold until January. While they did announce that Wintersday, a test ladder season in PvP and the WvW Sneak Attack event would be coming with next week's patch, today they sweetened the deal with the announcement of a completely new Daily Achievement system.

Currently, players complete a handful of generic daily achievements from across the game to get the daily reward of a few silver and a laurel. Each of these individual daily achievements came with one ahievement, forcing some competitive achievement pointers into completing all of the daily achievements, even after they complete enough for the daily reward.

After the patch next week, individual daily achievements will no longer reward achievement points. Instead, a daily meta-achievement for finishing any 3 daily achievements will reward 10 achievement points, no longer forcing these players to go finish every daily. While no longer giving an achievement point, each individual achievement will give a reward that is thematically tied to the daily. For example, capturing a tower in WvW for that daily will reward additional WXP and Badges of Honor while a daily fractal achievement will award an extra pristine fractal relic, additional agony resistance and a tome of knowledge. These are just a couple examples with many new daily achievements being added including ones for killing specific bosses in PvE and doing things on specific classes in PvP.

With this change, the monthly achievements will be retired after December as they will not fit into the new reward system. While players will still be able to complete the December monthlies, the new Log-in Reward system will go live next week. This system will reward players for logging in with things like laurels, bags of crafting components and exotic equipment boxes geared toward your profession. Don't worry if you miss a day, as this log-in reward system will not punish you for not being able to log-in. If you get to day 20 and are out of town for a week, you will still be able to pick up on day 21 when you get back. The system goes up to 28 days, when players will receive a permanent 1% boost to gold find and a bag of their choice (inc crafting materials, ascended crafting materials, additional laurels or tomes of knowledge) before the system resets back to day 1.

Almost 3 weeks into the new system now and I must say overall I like it. On the days I don't have much time it's easy for me to finish the meta fast and get the achievement points and rewards. On the days I do have time it gets me to do every aspect of the game and get rewards unique to each. Overall I'd say it was a positive change.
