TESO: Reddit AMA, FAQ & Adventure Zones!

Zenimax answers questions on Reddit and publishes launch and adventure zone info.

PvE

  • The changes to the starting areas were brought by player feedback. They were the most negatively perceived areas of the game in our recent round of media and beta tester previews as players felt locked in and “on rails” because they had to complete the content sequentially.
They changed this so that players arrive in the first big town of their alliance, but testers found the NPC giving access to the islands hard to find. By launch, those NPC will be right next to the spawn point, so if you are an ESO veteran, you can go to the islands whenever you want, and if you are a new player, you can just follow the quest and go there.
  • The tutorial was tweaked to offer more explicit weapon types to choose from. Their goal is that through weapon drops, lootable chests, and this choice you should be able to find any weapon you want by the time you exit Coldharbour.
  • They found three underlying issues that affected a large number of quests that are exposed when many people are in the same area and fixed them.
  • After launch, the first major content release will be the Adventure Zone of Craglorn.

Social, Guilds and Appearance:

  • They are looking at guild interface, store, and other improvements for guilds soon, including better communication tools for large guilds. They’ll add more ranks and look at adding a guild treasury.
  • The 10% “house cut” in the guild store is a gold sink.
  • Guilds are limited to 500 members. A player can be in up to 5 guilds (account-wide).
  • The in-game market is the guild store. They are looking at ways to expand this with the upcoming guild changes but will not implement a global auction house.
  • They want to be able to better support roleplayers and might study ways to tag oneself as being a roleplayer, or something like more costumes and a way to trade them, or maybe even getting the survey back (mega-server social options).
  • There will be no chat bubbles.
  • They will add in more options in the future for player customization.
  • They will add some form of party leader identification.

Items and Gear:

  • Racial passives stack with jewelry enchantments.
  • They will not add cloaks in the near future.
  • They will be looking at tabards and insignias in an update in the near future.
  • Poisons will be added to alchemy soon.
  • The random unmounting was a bug and is fixed.

Classes and Skills:

  • They will add new skill lines after launch instead of expanding current skill lines.
  • There are no plans of adding hand-to-hand combat skill lines.
  • One can earn more than 300 skill points.
  • The armor and spell penetration traits are not working exactly how intended. The desired effect is that ‘when I have 10% armor penetration, I ignore 10% of the target's armor value’. The fix for this should hit with either launch or shortly after.
  • Many new healing and support spells will be included in the skill lines added after release.
  • More skills will be added to werewolf and vampire, but those won't come immediately after launch.
  • Some racial passives might be adjusted.
