Valve Announces Steam Machines
Valve will release hardware for their SteamOS in 2014.
Coming off the heels of the Monday SteamOS announcement, today Valve has revealed Steam Machines. These hardware boxes will be available in 2014, and will run the SteamOS. Before October 25, 2013, you can log in to add yourself to the list of candidates for beta testing by completing the Eligibility Quest on Steam.
THE HARDWARE BETA ELIGIBILITY QUEST:Before October 25, log in to Steam and then visit your quest page to track your current status toward beta test eligibility.1. Join the Steam Universe community group2. Agree to the Steam Hardware Beta Terms and Conditions3. Make 10 Steam friends (if you haven't already)4. Create a public Steam Community profile (if you haven't already)5. Play a game using a gamepad in Big Picture mode
Once 2014 rolls around, multiple machines from different manufacturers will be available to choose from. No pictures of the box are available yet, and those lucky 300 chosen to beta test the prototypes are allowed to publically share their opinions. Read the full FAQ over on the Steam website.
