Tune in this weekend to see your favourite NBA & NFL stars compete in the digital arena!
With the Swedish players sweeping the multitude of tournaments at DreamHack in Sweden just two weeks ago, this weekend NFL & NBA stars will compete alongside eSports stars in one of the biggest events on the eSports calendar; MLG Anaheim.
Kicking off June 28 at 5pm PT, MLG and its many fans will flood the Anaheim Convention Center to watch hundreds of gamers compete for fame and glory -- oh and a share of the $100,000 up for grabs.
With spectator pass sales reported to be record breaking for the premier North American eSports organisation, this event is shaping up to be the biggest in its 10 year history. The main titles players will compete in will be StarCraft II, League of Legends and Call of Duty.
In addition, MLG has announced something a little bit different:
"This weekend top professional athletes will head to the Major League Gaming (MLG) Spring Championship in Anaheim, CA to showcase their skills in another arena. Dwight Howard - Los Angeles Lakers, Dez Bryant – Dallas Cowboys, Ty Lawson – Denver Nuggets and DeJuan Blair –San Antonio Spurs, will join hundreds of competitors striving to make a name for themselves amongst professional video gamers. On Saturday, June 29 at approximately 7:30pm PT, fans around the globe can tune to www.majorleaguegaming.com to watch Howard, Bryant, Lawson and Blair battle it out in an All-Star Showdown broadcast LIVE from the MLG Spring Championship. The NBA and NFL superstars will be paired with top players for a 4 v 4 match. Howard will also join MLG personality Chris Puckett to commentate the competition."
While this is not the first we've seen traditional sports athetletes get involved in eSports, it is certainly the largest stage we have seen them compete on. It should be interesting.
