The Scrying Pool: Wardrobe Malfunction

This edition of the Scrying Pool takes a quick look at Town Clothing in Guild Wars 2.

While I want the starting town clothes to be expanded so every race and gender can use them, I want to see the gem store town clothes make any piece available for any character. The reason I bring this up is the recently added cargo shorts. I got way too excited for the cargo shorts, yet on female characters they are not really cargo shorts. I wanted what male characters get for cargo shorts available on female characters as well. Then what we currently get as female cargo shorts could be released as a female only whatever-those-shorts-are-called shorts.

Then the idea of swimwear comes up with the Lord Faren and Lady Kasmeer. How many different ways can ArenaNet get away with swimwear on Charr or Asura? Should the number of swimsuit styles be limited on Humans, Norn and Sylvari because of the other two races? The same could be said of male and female variants as most male swimsuits aren’t really different than shorts.

There isn’t really much more that can be done with cosmetic clothing. The costume brawl was done really well in my opinion, but the skills rely solely on the “Toy” weapon slot. It doesn’t matter if my character is wearing the witch outfit or not, just as long as she is holding the broom. And with the way costume brawl works and town clothes being almost exclusively from the gem store, I don’t know that you could apply like a costume armor to town clothes.

The only other addition I would like to see is a return of the Costume Maker NPC from GW1. For those who are not familiar with this NPC and how costumes worked in GW1, after buying a costume from the store the player did not receive the costume in his/her inventory or mail. Instead that costume was unlocked at the Costume Maker. A player could then go up to the costume maker as many times on as many characters and get any unlocked costume for free. So in a way it acted as a storage as well as a way to easily get a cosmetic look on any character on an account. Accidently deleted your gem store bought town clothing? Just go to the nearest Costume Maker and pick up another on the house.

Matt “Mattsta” Adams can be found on the Blackgate server, probably leveling one of his many alts.

So after next week's patch, ranking up in WvW will give you a reward chest containing "useful WvW loot." It sounds like a really nice incentive to play more WvW, especially since one of the announced possibilities in these chests are Legendary precursor weapons. I seem to recall reading somewhere that rewarding chests for ranking up in WvW would be a good idea for WvW specific loot. Now where did I read that...

As always, if you have a question for me you would like to see answered here? Comment below or tweet it to @MattstaNinja.
