EA Montreal Layoffs Confirmed

More problems at EA as studio undergoes large downsizing

Positive news has been difficult to come by for EA recently.

After the debacle of SimCity's launch and the following departure of John Riccitiello from the CEO position, it has been confirmed that a large number of the EA Montreal team (speculated to be anything between 100 and 250) have lost their jobs.

In a statement sent to Joystiq, EA confirmed that restructuring had led to layoffs:

"EA is sharpening its focus to provide games for new platforms and mobile. In some cases, this involves reducing team sizes as we evolve into a more efficient organization. These are difficult decisions to let go of good people who have made important contributions to EA, and whenever possible we retrain or relocate employees to new roles. Streamlining our operations will help ensure EA is bringing the best next-generation games to players around the world."

The best wishes of all of us at ZAM are with those affected by the job losses.
