Amid SimCity crisis Maxis is offering a free EA game to victims.
The biggest fiasco in the Games Industry at the moment is the drama around the abysmal launch state of SimCity, the game itself is very good, but with disabled features and long queue times or even unavailable servers it can be hard to see past the grit. After promising compensation for those that bought the game, EA have today released another statement offering a free PC download from Origin, and a sincere appology.
With issues continuing and features still disabled, EA is giving people until before March 25, 2013 at 11:59 PM PDT to register their copy of SimCity to be eligible for one of the games below:
- Battlefield 3 (Standard Edition)
- Bejeweled 3
- Dead Space 3 (Standard Edition)
- Mass Effect 3 (Standard Edition)
- Medal of Honor Warfighter (Standard Edition)
- Need For Speed Most Wanted (Standard Edition)
- Plants vs. Zombies
- SimCity 4 Deluxe Edition
Maxis will be sending emails to those who have activated SimCity starting today, the email will give directions on how to redeem this offer, further information can be found on their FAQ. You have until March 30, 2013 at 11:59PM PDT to redeem your free game.
While there was no mention of when the game would be fully working again, they did make another excuse and these comforting words:
"At Maxis, our studio values dictate that we innovate and create something that is quirky, complex and challenging. Sometimes this bites us in the butt, but our servers are green and we’re seeing record numbers of players all online and having a great time."
The servers are indeed working, so at least that is something. EA also announced today that SimCity has sold over 1.1 million units in its first two weeks making it the biggest launch of the franchises history, one not to be forgotten.
