A Guardian's Journey: Logan Thackeray is a Jerk?

Looking at the Lore Behind GW2's Human Hero.

With Guild Wars 2 fast approaching, we take a look at the main characters that will form your story.

In this editorial, we take a long hard look at the controversial Logan Thackeray.

As we attempt to alleviate our unswerving anticipation for Guild Wars 2’s launch through the plethora of stress tests at the moment, I thought it would be fun to give my take on some of the main characters we will encounter.

NOTE: Spoilers for the book Edge of Destiny are within, so don’t come blaming me when you find out that Zojja’s love affair with Rytlock only ended because the Asura felt the Charr adventurer was “sub-optimal at delivering snuggles.”

And yes, I made that up.

If you decide to play a human in GW2 – which will be a popular choice if only for how awesome Divinity’s Reach is – you will bump into Logan Thackeray very early on in your personal story.

For those who are coming into GW2 completely fresh, without having read the books and so on, Logan will appear to be a well-spoken Captain of the Seraph – your usual knights in shining armor types, essentially the sword waving police of Divinity’s Reach.
He has the hair straight out of a salon and pretty-boy good looks to mark him out as your typical leading male.

One might think he is the stereotypical hero.

You might be surprised to learn that, to many devotees of the lore of Guild Wars 2, Logan Thackeray is about as popular as leprosy in a sushi restaurant.

Once upon a time – in Edge of Destiny by J. Robert King – Logan was a rebellious guardian who was scampering around protecting trade caravans as a scout.  Logan aggravated the clanking pants off his brother Dylan, who was the somewhat – OK profoundly – pompous captain of the Seraph.

Hey Scott! :)

I read your article, and it was fantastic! I'm glad that you're covering all of the main character's background :)
Personally I think, the 3. option is the case here. That bonding thing with the queen is rather interesting, don't you think?
Of course, if the other versions turning out to be true, I'd would be satisfied too :)

Lastly, I can't wait till you cover Rytlock :) He is my favourite hero ^^ :)

Logans thoughts?

Good read, and it is deffinately a point that many people argue over and discuss quite regularly. But something a lot of people seem to leave out was Logans intentions.

When he pulled out from where they were to face Kralkatorrik they were only in preperations and had no idea when exactly the dragon was to arrive. Logan had previously sworn himself to his queen, not just by her magical bond but in himself basically swore and oath that defending his queen was his priority, Whats more is that this priority wasn't exactly a ''secret'' from the other members of DE.. the queen promised him that she would only call if she was in dire need, because she understood what he was doing.

All this under consideration it would appear that what Logan was thinking was the right thing, As far as he (or anybody else) knew the dragon was at that time attacking Ebonhawke (and his queen). so he jumped at defending her, thinking that he was to face the dragon.

I can deffinately see how this has effected the others, and how it ultimately sealed Snaffs fate, and their failure against the dragon. but again, they didn't know exactly when he was to arrive and to Logans credit he was only doing what he felt was right. because he believed the dragon was attacking his queen (the one he swore an oath to)

Also on the subject of how they may come back together i think Caithe will play more of a part than most think. Though Eir is has already shown to be trying to mend bridges i think once Caithe brings her sense of thinking and logic mack in to the mix she will help clear them up. Though i don't think any one single member will be the sole cause of them coming together again i see Caithe being quite a pivitol point in it, seeing as she has always come across as the ''glue'' that holds them together in rough times.

i agree with you :). Caithe is so cool lol. but except in the beginning you do not hear a lot about her :( except when she got ill. most of her comments made me laughs. same with most sylvari's comments.. they are so funny even when they don't mean it.
The Queen

About the people who says that the queen could have gotten out of this without logan actually being summoned i disagree. Ebonhawke was under attack, the asura gate was gone... we don't have any idea if there was a way out but most likely not. if you want to blame someone for not getting the queen out of there sooner we must blame logan's brother. then the queen summoned logan, did she really need him... i think most likely yes. Logan's arrival and him banding the charr prisoners to slow down the crystal monsters is very important in my opinion. The reason is that what the queen actually did was pretty amazing. making everyone believe that the dragon is back and also that the resistance transformed into his minions, even logan was confused and thought he was transformed. this is vastly different from simply making a clone, this needs to take time. i don't think the queen would have taken her time while the others die. now another scenario is that the queen die but they defeat krakaltorrik, is it better... well logan might have left DE and the human's without the queen might have chosen a more aggressive approach compared to trying to unify the races.
so to conclude i kinda like how it is right now excluding snaff's death. i want to face krakaltorrik and defeat him :P

Another hypothesis might be that Eir wins the heart of everyone again and gets the gang back together.
If we look at Ascalonian Catacombs she does wish to give magdaer to logan most probably in an attempt to make things right.

Problem with that is Zojja blames Eir for Snaffs death (according to Ree Soesbee).

I think Eir will certainly be the driving force behind it, as we do indeed see in Ascalonian Catacombs (love that dungeon). She's going to have quite the job on her hands convincing the others to tolerate Logan without some building of bridges from Logan himself though.
Thanks for leaving your thoughts Mizard.

what about Caithe :(... she's trying too... i find eir way of getting the group back together kinda strange lol... as if getting the sword for Logan will solve everything. personally i think the first is the most likely to happen and would be great if your character can actually help the group getting along better.

ps:: about Zojja and Rytlock i thought they got into a fight because big Zojja stepped on Rytlock tail Oo... never knew they broke up because of "sub-optimal at delivering snuggles".

Hey Sakura thanks for posting. It would be interesting to see Caithe using her logic to try and talk Rytlock around.
And a golem tail stomp is certainly enough to put her in Rytlock's bad books hehehe.
