CES: Razer Switchblade Targets Portable PC Gaming

The Razer Switchblade is currently making the rounds at the Consumer Electronics Show, and this tiny device looks like it could bring portable PC gaming to a new level. It's just a concept design, so it's not available for purchase yet. Considering it's not for sale, pricing is also up in the air.

The Switchblade is similar in design to a small netbook. It has a touch screen, but the most noteworthy feature is its innovative keyboard. The tactile dynamic keyboard actually changes on the fly to match the game being played. Here's what Robert Krakoff, president of Razer, had to say about using the Switchblade with World of Warcraft:

"Take World of Warcraft for example. With the Switchblade, not only can you interact with what's happening on-screen, but having all of your skills and commands magically laid out on the keyboard. It's just a whole new level of experience."

While we're always excited to take our MMOs on the go, the Switchblade will work with all gaming genres. Click through the jump to watch a demonstration video and check out some pictures that show off the size of the device.

im a PC gamer and i like my mouse and keyboard. Yes sure this will be convenient but playing on such a small screen would be frustrating in my opinion, especially for im sure the large price tag it will have on it since this thing will have to have the graphics and ram to support "all" types of games.
Meh

Its an interesting concept, but it seems like a waste. I play World of Warcraft because I like the flexibility and control I get from using a PC. That little keyboard is cool, but I think I'd go nuts trying to raid with that thing O.o

So at 1st when I just saw the picture on the news page I thought to myself, "It is a netbook with fancy keys." Woopty Do.

Then I watched that video, if the keys are LCD and can truly change on the fly like that (control buttons, action buttons, Key board, etc. at the touch of a button) the it looks like my Thumbs may have something to look forward to.

I was a counsel gamer (and a hand held liker too), and when I started WoW I slowly became a PC game (I had a PC, but I never really played games on it).
I even bought me a replacement Desktop, gaming laptop, the Asus G73.

Until I see what the price tag is on this (and what other features it can do), I may have to have one of these.

To be fair, it isn't anything 'new'

Looks like it is made for only one use, but I can see some potential behind this if you can get a laptop with a relatively full-keyboard. Impressive.
