BFF Report #50: Top 5 Controversial Games of 2010

The BFF Report has reached its 50th episode, and Mike B. aka Fony is celebrating with a look back at the most controversial games of the year.

It seems like only yesterday that Mike B. aka Fony was creating GizmoDuck in Champions Online for his first episode of the BFF Report. Ah, memories. Fony reached episode 50 just in time for a 2010 wrap-up, and he decided to count down the top five controversial games of the year. Spoiler alert: GizmoDuck might make a return appearance.

Check out BFF Report episode 50 after the jump, and tune in next week for Fony's first episode of the new year. Will it focus on DC Universe Online or Rift? We'll just have to wait and see!

Hi Mike, I really enjoy your reviews. For some reason, Blip doesn't like you or me for #50. I've tried two browsers both Zam pages, and even Blip.tv directly. No go. I can get to Zam's TWIMMO on Blip this morning, just not #50.
An insight on MMOs

Playing an MMO requires a commitment - lots of time and the monthly fee. It requires satisfying content that holds people over for a long time.

A movie only has to interest you for a couple hours. A console game for maybe a month. An MMO has to keep you going for several months or even years. Many companies just simply aren't up to that challenge. They end up releasing half-finished products or otherwise miss the nail for today's MMO gaming community.

That said, I'm looking forward to Tera and Guild Wars 2. They both show good promise - not that they will surpass WoW's dominance, but they don't need to in order to be successful.
Why? Mike Why?

First off Mike your reports are some of the funniest around while still being great reports on games thanks man. Let me ask you a question here Mike and I'm sure many might of already asked this in the past. But why do so many of these companies seem to get MMOs so wrong? By doing so they end up @#%^ing themselves over. WoW is the best thing for these companies to copy heck even the first EQ was a good game. Why don't makers of MMOs look at what works and say okay I'll do this but I'll do it better? I feel Mike that was what Blizzard did and is still doing and look where it got them. The thing I see myself that might be hurting these companies, is that the heads of many them like them the CEOs are pushing to get the game out, and not listening to the game makers who work for them and fans who wanna play the games(greed of trying to cut into to WOW's market without really thinking of how to do so). And why don't many of these companies like Square not listen to their fans/customers? I mean some people love FF just love it for reasons I don't get(not a FF fan ever and most likely won't ever be), and those fans are the people who are going to play the games, and get other people to play(make the companies money). Why ignore them? Blizzard uses their players/fans for input more then any company(any company ever not just videos games companies) that I know of, and I don't know they seem to be doing okay. I'd like to know what you think on this Mike, let me know bro.

Mike B has reviewed so many bad MMOs, researched so many development companies...I'm sure he has a theory on why 80% of them are terribad, and like you, I really REALLY REALLY want to hear what it is.

I never realized how torn up the MMO scene has become in 2010! I mean, yeah, I watch the BFF Report and lol at your jokes...but these games are just BAD! Is THIS what we call cutting edge? Developers ignoring their player base and rushing content?

I'm glad I play WoW and didn't have to deal with any of these games.
