The Metal Gravitates Toward WoW Steins at BlizzCon

Taverncraft reflects on meeting Jack Black and Cannibal Corpse's George "Corpsegrinder" Fisher at the convention.

BlizzCon 2010 was all about the metal. During Tenacious D's closing concert, Jack Black and Kyle Gass defeated the devil and made friends with the Lich King with the help of Dave Grohl on drums. Black also took a drink from an epic World of Warcraft stein on stage, which he actually purchased from the Taverncraft booth right before the concert. In fact, every member of Tenacious D left BlizzCon with a stein in hand.

But that's not the end of musicians buying steins at BlizzCon. Corpsegrinder from Cannibal Corpse, who just happens to be a huge WoW fan, also picked up a Tankard O' Terror after the concert. Taverncraft gave us a written account of their experience at BlizzCon, which you can read after the jump. You can also view pictures of Jack Black and Corpsegrinder at the Taverncraft booth. The metal will live on!

Blizzcon 2010 was a great experience for the folks at Taverncraft. There was a steady line of World of Warcraft fans at their booth throughout both days to look at items such as their new Murloc stein or to play BlizzPong. Things seemed to be winding down at the end of the second day until about 15 minutes prior to the Tenacious D concert that was scheduled to close the show.

Jack Black was walking the show floor and stopped at the booth right next to the Taverncraft booth, where he was looking at some hard drives. Out of the corner of his eye he spotted Taverncraft's display of steins in a tall glass case. Making a beeline for the booth, his first word was, "Awesome!" He then looked at the Charge of the Great Dragonflights stein and simply said, "the flagon with the dragon is the brew that is true."

After booth volunteer Jonathan Douglas, who happens to be a long-time World of Warcraft player and huge Tenacious D fan, told him about the entire line of all five steins, Black asked to purchase one of each so he could give them to his band members.

This presented a problem for the Taverncraft staff, as those were the display steins and they did not intend to sell them off the floor. Nonetheless, when Jack Black asks to buy five steins, Jack Black gets five steins. The glass case was quickly cleaned out and the steins were securely boxed and handed off to Black's security entourage since he had already left to prepare for his show. Here's what he bought: the Alliance United Legendary Stein, the Blood of the Horde Legendary Stein, the Rise of the Lich King Epic Stein, the Charge of the Great Dragonflights Epic Stein, and the new Murloc Epic Stein.
