Guild Chat Coming to a Mobile Armory App Near You

Whether you're late for a raid or you just want to chat with your in-game friends while you're at the dentist, Blizzard has you covered!

Talk about growing more and more connected through our MMORPGs! Today, Blizzard has just announced that a new feature will soon be coming to their Mobile Armory Application: Guild Chat! With this new app update, all World of Warcraft remote subscribers will gain the ability to chat with their guildmates from their mobile devices. Unfortunately, this does mean that you need to subscribe for the World of Warcraft Remote Auction House ($2.99 amonth), but the Guild Chat feature will not add on any additional expenses. This new Guild Chat feature will allow you to chat with your Guildmates via Guild Chat, Officer Chat and Whispers, so you'll never leave your guild hanging in the air when you're late for a raid again!

Blizzard has also noted that soon after the launch of the mobile version of this app, they are also planning on adding the ability for premium subscribers to use Guild Chat through any browser on the Armory website.

I like the idea of checking guild chat through the web version when I'm not at home. Would be very useful to me as a guild master, especially since I'm in a different country to most of the guild which rules out phone/texting etc. Not sure that should be part of the paid service though. Leave the paid service for the phone apps.

As long as the armory option is free I really like this. I can understand why the mobile app would cost extra. 2.99 and combined with the mobile AH makes it an okay deal.

What I won't be okay with is if they add it to the armory and require "premium" service to use it. That's just really splitting hairs there. We're already paying 15 bucks a month...

I'm starting to feel like Blizzard only respects my $15 USD when I buy more than a subscription. Most games all the premium stuff COMES with the subscription. Here, the subscribers are being placed at "free user" level of rewards.

years ago Sony made the handy EQIM to connect to the EQ chat server without logging to the game. I know it's defunct now but couldn't Blizz make something similar?

Its another sub thats allows you to use the ah from the mobile armory. I so wanted a chat feature on that app but for another $3 a month to have something that i already pay for, you can kiss it.

IMO, it would very much be worth three bucks to tell the guild to swap me out for tonight's raid because {my home internet is down, my WoW computer's video card is fried, I had to work late on an hour's notice}. So what if it comes with a "premium" subscription I won't otherwise use...

Or you just have a repository of contact info for the raiders to be able to call/email/text someone if something goes down. Or you just go to your guild's website and post on your forums (I assume most raiding guilds have forums...) and post it from the same smartphone that you can use mobilearmory on.

@ChaosInc - There is a premium service (2.99/mo) that allows you to use the AH from your mobile device (and maybe internet browser, can't remember) and now they are lumping this into that 2.99/mo.

right now its just so people can farm the AH on their Iphone. Guess they are adding this as a feature as well. Still say MEH to it all.

Wait, premium subscribers? When did WoW get a premium service? And what's the difference between that and "normal" subs? I missed something here...
