Cataclysm Launch Confirmed for 2010

Activision Blizzard has published its results for the fourth quarter of 2009 and there's all sorts of interesting information mixed in with the numbers. President Mike Morhaime confirmed that Cataclym, the next World of Warcraft expansion, is scheduled to launch in 2010. This really shouldn't come as a surprise since he said the same thing at BlizzCon, but it's nice to have the news a little more set in stone.

In addition, the StarCraft II beta is ready to launch this month! According to the slide presentation, this is the first time in 12 years that Blizzard has two major products expected to launch in the same calendar year. Sorry, Diablo fans.

The slide presentation also states that World of Warcraft still has approximately 11.5 million subscribers throughout the globe. As Kotaku pointed out, that's the same number of subscribers that Blizzard announced in December 2008. We'll have to wait and see what effect Cataclysm has on the player base.
