New Buff/Debuff Management System Explained

Zarhym is asking players on the PTR to provide feedback on the new interface system for managing buffs and debuffs. According to the PTR 3.3 patch notes, players have two new features to enable: a Castable Debuffs option that will cause only debuffs you have cast on an enemy target to appear, and a Consolidate Buffs box near the mini-map that will contain the icons for very short term and very long term buffs.

So what exactly goes into that consolidation box? Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street provided an explanation later in the thread: "Very spammy things that you are grateful for but don't need to be reminded of constantly (say Replenishment) go in the box. Long-term buffs go into the box with a couple of exceptions." Things with short ranges, like totems or auras, stay out of the box, as do things very core to your class or anything related to a specific encounter.

"The other new option, the castable debuffs, is a way to just see 'your stuff' on a target, especially a raid boss. If you want to see your Corruption and CoA and not every lock's dots, it works well for that," Ghostcrawler said. Both of the tools are off as the default, so be sure to turn them on and try them out on the PTR.
