Blizzard Now Selling Companion Pets

Breaking News! Blizzard has just put up the two new companion pets, Lil' K.T. and the Pandaren Monk, for sale in the Blizzard Online Store. They've even donating 50% of the proceeds (from the monk) to the Make-A-Wish foundation! This looks to be just the beginning, the FAQ indicates that there will be more pets to come.

The items are for sale for $10 USD each, and can be gifted to another player's account. The pets are BoA, and will apply to all future characters on the account it was purchased for.

Edit: Nethaera has just posted about it here. Full text after the jump.

Today we’re pleased to introduce the Pet Store for World of Warcraft, a new way for players to obtain in-game pets to join them on their adventures in Azeroth. Two brand-new companions are now available for purchase exclusively at the Pet Store in the online Blizzard Store: Lil’ K.T. and the Pandaren Monk.

Make a Difference: Pandaren Monk Charity Pet

Enter the Pandaren Monk, ( http://us.blizzard.com/store/details.xml?id=1100000763 ) a martial-arts expert who’s here to help celebrate the upcoming fifth anniversary of World of Warcraft. He may be cute, but he’s proof that even the softest of critters can overcome the hardest of circumstances. For every Pandaren Monk that finds its way to a player’s side between now and the end of the year (December 31, 2009 at 11:59 PDT), we’ll donate 50 percent of the $10 purchasing price to the Make-a-Wish Foundation in an effort to brew up a little hope, strength, and joy in a child’s life.

Lil’ K.T., the Littlest Lich

Lil’ K.T. is a miniature lich who bears a striking resemblance to the legendary lord of Naxxramas, Kel’Thuzad. But don’t let his diminutive stature fool you: Lil’ K.T. has a diabolical laugh and wields true power at his bony fingertips, randomly wreaking icy havoc on critters who dare to cross his path. You can now buy this new pet for $10 on the Blizzard Store. (http://us.blizzard.com/store/ )

In order to receive a purchased pet, you’ll need to merge your World of Warcraft account with a Battle.net account. For more information on Battle.net, please visit the FAQ. Also, in anticipation of the possible objections, here's the relevant quote from the FAQ:

Does this mean you'll be introducing more services like this in the future? Will you be introducing the ability to buy epic weapons/etc. in the future, for example?

As with the pets, mounts, and other items players can obtain through Loot cards from the World of Warcraft Trading Card Game, Pet Store pets are purely cosmetic and just for fun. Like other paid services we offer, such as Paid Name Changes, Race Changes, and Character Re-Customizations, the Pet Store service is entirely optional and intended to provide players another means to enjoy World of Warcraft in a way that isn't detrimental to the game and that doesn't detract from the gameplay experience for players who choose not to use the service.

wow do you REALLY think it takes ALL of blizzards multitude of developers just for TWO pets one of which is just KT but scaled down? if you do then you FAIL
If you think

they have a 'horde' of developers standing around then you are the fail...Think contract hours...
My main issue is the hundreds of cycles the silly things take in a busy place like Dalaran, not the development time really.

i never said they had a "horde" of developers. All I was saying is that they have a large number of developers, enough that it would only take a small percentage to work on this stuff.

So do you complain every single time they bring out new companion pets? It is part of the game if they didn't actually bring out any new ones there would be people complaining. Really and truly it won't effect you and even if you did want to complain why bother on a wow community site news article comments?
Why are people complaining?

If one considers the cost of WoW Collector's Editions, or even of just how many packs of TCG one needs to buy to find the rare pets, I admire the fact that Blizzard is selling these BoA pets for only $10/piece. I admire even more that one of them is helping a good cause.

I applaud Blizzard for this enterprise.

Let's keep this in perspective instead of ******** and moaning about it.
You don't want non-combat pets? You don't have to buy them.
You collect them? Well, here's a chance to get pets that WON'T cost an arm, a leg, your first borne, half your lifetime of farming, etc...

What hasn't been reported on here is that the pets are 40-50% more expensive in Europe, compared to the North American pricing. $1 does not = 1 Euro, however you look at it.

The UK economy certainly isn't - it's still in recession, whereas the US and a number of other countries have come out of it already.

the US is still in recession as far as i know, not many countries have actually come out, most of the countries that arent in recession (like Australia) never actually went INTO recession due to smart action before it happened

Blizz is SO worried about making money off of incidentals, that they leave us people wondering about stuff like non-arena weapons, hanging in the wind... "...post a message on the forums..."

C'mon, Bliz, at 70, non-arena folks could buy high-quality weapons using marks/honor... but now that the cap is 80, all we get is armor. You haven't followed your past path-of-progression AT ALL....

Guess I'm one that will, if Bliz doesn't get their act together, be switching over to Aion... :(

Love you Bliz, since Diablo, but damn, got to draw a line somewhere....

uuugh.

I caved and bought Lil' K.T. only so I can watch him laugh at all my pvp victims and nuke other people's pets.

Plus, he's cute.

Why is he not happy? It's not like they're selling pets that were already available through other, more difficult, means.
