World of WarcraftNew Spell Will Lower Dodge Chance 20% in Icecrown
Daelo just announced on the official forums that a spell called Chill of the Throne will be in effect for all enemies in Icecrown Citadel that "will allow creatures to ignore 20% of the dodge chance of their melee targets."
Why would Blizzard do this? Basically, it looks like tank avoidance has grown so high that a hard-hitting melee boss can take down a raid tank in a couple hits if the blows aren't avoided. Chill of the Throne will give the dev team "a bit of breathing room" while they look at ways to keep tank avoidance from growing so high in the future. Presumably, the overall damage will be reduced to compensate — meaning the damage will be similar overall, but less spiky.
Just to be clear about what the spell does, I'll use Daelo's example: "if a raid's main tank had 30% dodge normally, in Icecrown Citadel they will effectively have 10%." Chill of the Throne should be up on the PTR soon so you can check out the effects. What are your preliminary thoughts on the spell?

I have seen a bunch of silver spoon T9 geared kids think they own the world with their awesome gear, even though they don't know how to use the proper rotation and/or strategy on a boss because they have worked the entire system to their advantage. Please don't punish those of us who follow the proper talent combos. Instead, find out where the real problems are and fix them. Thank you.

Particularly as a Disc priest - lower damage makes the shield more effective. Bring on the blocking, Blizz. ;)
But then I got wise, and now I'm rich and successful.
Because I, as a raid leader, would not have any tank who relies heavily on dodge tank anything 'cept trash if there's going to be a penalty to their dodge.
Think about it:
Shield tanks still have parry and block. Couple that with the reduced boss damage...you'd have to be stupid not to use classes that can take 'over'-advantage and make ICC a tank 'n spank raid; this happened with DKs because of their druid-like health and the extra avoidance (parry)....everyone used DKs to tank the hard-hitting bosses until Blizzard nerfed them...same thing happened with druids and their ungodly amount of health and armor; until Blizzard nerfed them. I guess it's the Warrior/Paladin turn to be the favored tank.
A better band aid would have been to have Tirion give the raid an aura (like the song of the naaru buff on Isle of Quel.) that would reduce spell dmg of shadow and frost and then make the bosses use a 60/40 mix (60% spell based / 40% physical based) dmg. Now that the damage dealt is split between an avoidable dmg (phy) and a resistable (spell). any of the tank classes can be used with out risking one tank-type becoming the favored.
