Dwarves, Trolls, Orcs Get New Totems in PTR 3.3Oct 2nd, 2009 at 10:35 AM by Togikagi

World Designer Kisirani mentioned at the end of August that shamans would be getting some new totem designs in the future. Well, it looks like totems have been updated for dwarves, trolls and orcs in PTR patch 3.3. Boubouille has posted images of them in his big 3.3 post on MMO-Champion, and you can check them out after the jump.

So shamans, what do you think of the new totem designs?

Yes, we will probably see Dwarven Shamans before Cataclysm... On the PTR...

Sorry, had to add the point of obviousness.

Alot of things are released to PTR or hinted/playtested before the final final patch. For instance, the Loot Cards from the upcoming CCG are on the PTRs way before the cards are to be released.

Now, about the totems. I like the Troll's the best, as there is variation between the elements, I wish there was such on the others, and hope that there will be up coming. A Orcish sigil for the elements instead of the Horde symbol would be cool.

The question was will we see dwarven shamans in the actual game prior to Cataclysm, not on the PTR. You missed the point in your rush to state the "obviousness". I'm quite sure everyone here knows how the PTR works.

places for blizz to spend the effort. I'd like my astral recall to bind somewhere else. It would be really nice to see offensive and defensive abilities of characters play off one another, but other than that I kind of agree with Lady Isyris - "it's that they look so off-balance, like they'll topple over with the slightest gust of wind."

Tauren should get new totems. The Troll and Dwarf totems look nice, shouldn't we get nice new shiny totems as well?

I was hoping dwarves would get totems that resembled a keg. Oh well...
But it would be very cool if we got at least a few of the new race-class combinations in 3.3 instead of waiting 'til Cata.

Seeing as dwarves have no shamans at the moment and thus have no totems... Is it possible that the announcement of dwarven totems is a precursor to new class combinations BEFORE Cataclysm is released?

Dwarf shamans have already been announced.

As for the totem art...the Troll and Dwarf graphics are awesome and very fitting (the Trolls get four different totems? sweet!) while the Orc totems are disappointing, to say the least. It's not so much that I have a problem with the totems being axes, exactly (though I imagined something more like the spiky horde tower design) it's that they look so off-balance, like they'll topple over with the slightest gust of wind.

Well, that, and the metal texture on them has more the feel of the New Old Horde, Garrosh's Horde, than of the New Horde (Thrall's). I'm not too crazy about that at all.

Thats the thing, when you look closely at the Orcish Totem's you see two Wolves heads flanking the Horde emblem, that for me, kind of counters the "New Old Horde" bit, and reminds me of Thrall, and his two Wolves, but yeah it does seem like it is going to fall over if the wind blows, and I would prefer something a bit more Thrall'ish, but it suits in my opinion.

Exactly. Which is how I worded my post. I know Dwarf Shamans are being added, but the fact that the totems are being announced on the 3.3 test realm...how are the totems going to be seen/tested unless dwarven shamans are opened up in 3.3?
