Morhaime: Cataclysm Targeted for 2010 Release Date

With all the talk of Cataclysm during BlizzCon, everybody's wondering when the explansion will launch and forever change the old Azeroth. Well, WoW.com has confirmed that Blizzard president and co-founder Mike Morhaime said Cataclysm is targeted for a 2010 release date during a DirecTV interview.

While I doubt many players actually expected such a huge expansion to launch by December, it's nice to have some sort of confirmation, however tentative it may be. For the record, Gamestop is listing Cataclysm's release date as Nov. 1, 2010, but take that with the biggest grain of salt you can find.

So whether you're excited for the coming of the new Azeroth or not, rest assured you still have quite a bit of time to run around and re-explore your old stomping grounds before they're destroyed (or view them for the first time if you're new to the game).

Im guessing it will be out sometime 2011 worth waiting for but I think some might get tired of waiting that long and move to other games.

Really.. not until late NEXT year? Pretty stupid if you ask me. They should wait until NEXT BlizCon if they won't release until that late.
If we start getting bored or are now messed up due to the "new" way they will handle things like AP gear etc., how will we be comfortable investing time for new equipment if it will be worthles at release?

Heard Aion is supposed to be well done. Maybe it's time after 5+ years of WoW to check something else out.

WotLK was announced at Blizzcon 2007 and wasn't released until after Blizzcon 2008.

Blizzard aren't exactly known for prompt release dates. As one of their bigwigs (can't remember which one) said at blizzcon, they are always more focussed on getting their product right before releasing it rather than sticking to particular deadlines. They don't have a history of committing to any dates and more often than not release things a lot later than expected.

I'm personally thinking we're going to get it in May/June with a beta test starting Jan/Feb. My opinion though.

That would be to early. Companies tend to release new products around Christmas (starting in mid-October); then again Americans are out of a job now and we were the big 'Christmas Shopper'-country, so they may change to an early date.

I was curious to any sort of pattern Blizzard may have had on announcment and release dates.

.:World of Warcraft:.

Announced September 2, 2001

Released November 23, 2004

.:Burning Crusade:.

Announced October 29th 2005

Released January 16, 2007

.:Wrath of the Lich King:.

Announced August 3, 2007

Released November 13, 2008

Also Blizzard really will be wanting it out as soon as they can with all the new MMO's coming out within the next 6-12 month period plus look at how far they are into wotlk which implies again it wont be too far into 2010

I seem to remember Blizzard saying they wanted an expansion out every 12-18 months which would put it right in that time frame I gave.

true true; but wouldn't 12-months put it again in November (2009)? and 18-months would be in May (2010)..if it's 12-18 starting after each expansion.

Fact, it's probably will be a late expansion since they aren't adding a new zone on a new "realm" (TBC, Wrath i count as Realms since you can't get to them with out their expansions). Instead they are completely redesigning all 45 zones (41 if they don't touch TBC-Azeroth zones) to at least allow flying mounts, with some being redone to show the effects of the Cataclysm.
