Cataclysm Rumors

According to sources at MMO-Champion there's a lot of new information about the new suspected expansion "Cataclysm". Some of the rumors include complete revamps of all of Azeroth to allow flying, The Barrens being split down the middle by some major event that also cracks the Greymane Wall. The Goblins have been enslaved by Deathwing and a group of them have splintered off and joined the Horde while the residents of Gilneas transformed by the Worgen curse permantly have joined the Alliance. Theory has it the expansion will be slightly smaller than a traditional expansion and the level cap may only turn out to be level 85 with older dungeons and raids might be brought back to the forefront and redone for level purposes. There's a lot more info located on the MMO-Champion website.

lazy work for the horde yet again

ok my complaint is blizz yet again says hey ***** the horde you dont deserve any work done for you. horde got a night elf they rendered pink and the alliance got a new race that looks like it should be in the horde. also blood elves were already around in the pre bc days out in azshara. now we get goblins awesome so a race thats been there since the begining gets to join the horde and the alliance gets a brand new race of worgen or basicly wearwolf people witch i fall to see how that is alliance.

... I want some

Lets see:

Flying in Azeroth:

blizzard has said that flying in azeroth isnt gonna happen - too much gap filler needed to allow it

re-vamping azshara / flooding 1k needles:

Ok, i can see the point its pretty much a place filler - a few quests, or a parts of quest chains
and the dragonscale LW trainer for aliance - I don't know about the horde interests there
1k needles i dont really care either way - oh bye bye shimmering flats - id miss the races

splitting the barrens in 1/2:

with big quest hubs for the horde, that's gonna annoy them.. more running arround
given blizzards focus on gettin players to 80 and raiding, pvp etc, that sort of change goes directly
against the trend

(most) classes available to all races:

no, no good god no.
i can see the point of letting both factions have access to all the classes, but not all combinations
makes it too bland in my opinion.. if that was the plan from the get go, we didn't really need extra races
shammies could have been tied to ummm Nelfs (although the elves have no love for the forces of chaos, its not too hard
to get them to swallow the elemental line - hint: guess why ya dont have Nelf warlocks / mages)

as for horde pallies, hmm thats a tricky one, as i don't know a lot about the horde (or the aliance, for that matter)
- undead carbon copy DK (now with extah healz ick)
- orc / troll nah doesnt fit either one really.
- Tauren hmm could work given their history of being the earths guardians

o wait, when did lore ever stop blizzard :)

just my 2c (and i want the change)

Bring on the changes!

If I start a new toon, all of the things that have happened thus far are considered to have happened. AQ gates, the burning portal, the scourge invasion preceding the return of the lich king and everything else. It is not like you start a toon and are transported back to the storyline as it existed in 1.0. If they where to create an expansion pack that made major changes to the way the Old Kingdom looks it would have to be represented in the quests that are presented to a new toon. If the Barrens is split in half then a newly created orc or tauren would tend to notice it and it would have to be accounted for with the quests in the Barrens. I don't think the players would be cool with major changes to the zone and then have the quest givers acting like nothing was wrong.

NPC: I need you to bring me 12 raptor heads.
Player: Uh, what about the big a$$ smoking crater?
NPC: Crater? I am unaware of this crater you are referring to. Now, about those heads...

As far as I'm concerned, I hope every one of the changes mentioned and more are in store for us in the new expansion. If they where to make the leveling experience new and different it would be almost like a new game.

Besides, if they ever bring out WOW 2, do you really think that they will just give us the same thing that everyone has seen time and time again? No, it will be different. This could be a turning point where Blizz is starting to push its player base towards a new MMO. Bliz has stated that the next MMO is something that players have never seen before. It could be WOW 2. Not WOW as we are used to playing but a constantly changing and evolving world. Changing and evolving from the lowest levels to the highest. That would, IMO, be something to see and the proposed changes MMO mentioned could be a trial run by Blizzard. Guess we will just have to wait and see.

Most of it (including the races) sounds like one of the ideas you get when it's 1am and you are drunk.

Are you saying the first minds that thought up the premise for an MMO weren't drunk?

I was devastated, after reading through the lists of supposed updates.

No offence Blizzard, but going on what you've listed, you're about to take what is an incredibly good game, and turn it into a game of similar quality to Spongebob, the RTS.

Tauren Paladins, anyone?

A huge lot of it sounds really off the wall. The complete and total redesign of Azeroth would be a massive under taking. I could imagine some of this happening in WoW 2 but these changes are just far too big imo for the current WoW.

I honestly don't want to see the entire original WoW redone. Save for speedy leveling and some out dated quests, it is fun. They risk ******** up the entirety of the leveling experience rewriting the book.

This far into the series it would make very little sense to rewrite ALL of the first few chapters.

Allowing flying at classic WoW areas is not same as complete redesign. Adding more content to the classic wow zones that have smallest amount of content is not total redesign. Making Barrens more than just filler zone with very small number of reasons to go and stay there is not total redesign.

Sure they need to chance content of areas that aren’t accessible now in classic wow to add content there but it’s not total redesign.

I like the fact that we have the world that evolve and don’t stay the same all of time.

If you mean that to allow flying mounts in old-Azeroth wouldn't be a massive undertaking. Then you are wrong. If you want prove get a shaman with Farsight and go to Undercity (Horde). Now Farsight-walk up and over the walls; you'll see that there is no Undercity Quart yard. Now I haven't done this in Stormwind but I know if you set the max camera zoom to 50 you can see that the Flight Master tower isn't there once you leave the Trade District.

In short, much of what you 'see' in Old-Azeroth is in fact bitmap images; these would have to be redone. Also there are many zone-gaps like "Western Burning Steppes" that don't exist; that you could get to if you could manually fly around.

----
As for the the Lore..Blizzard stopped caring about maintaining the 'old' lore when they realized it didn't make them as much money.

*Alliance Shamans: Broken (not Draenei); we didn't need another 'over-sexualized' race
*Death Knights: 1st Generation (not 2nd Generation); by Blizzards own admission 1st Gen kept their souls and free will. While 2nd Gen had their souls bound to the Lich King. Remember Akama? Remember how he didn't want Illidian to learn of his treachery until after he'd recovered his imprisioned soul, why? Because Illidian could kill Akama by destroying his soul...

Having the 1st Gen return (since it states they left for parts unknown) would have been a great story driven class. Based on getting revenge on Ner'zhul (aka Lich King).

I would hardly call the Barrens a "filler" zone. Its massive with a crap ton of quests from level 10 to almost 30. Let me get some quotes...

Quote:
Most of the new content for Cataclysm will take the form of a revamped Azeroth, taking advantage of newer additions to WoW such as phasing and daily quests.

Quote:
Most of the quests and mobs in the classic zones will also be redesigned to make leveling less painful.

Quote:
* The Barrens will be split into two separate zones of two different level bands.
* Azshara will become a low level (~10-20) zone.
* Some of the zones like the Thousand Needles will be flooded.
* Durotar is wrecked and apparently Orgrimmar could be destroyed. A new Orc city is rebuilt over the course of the expansion.
* Gnomeregan will be part of the expansion as well and gnomes might be able to reclaim their capital. (The last part is still unconfirmed)
* Wailing Caverns will be become a lush tropical area as a result of the druid's magic.
* The Blackrock Spire will erupt and a new version of Blackrock Mountains will be available, apparently Ragnaros will be back too.

And that's just a few... those aren't tiny changes fitting of an expansion. That's not just a facelift. That's a face transplant.

As someone else said... its like the ideas of a someone drunk at 1am.

I'm in total agreement. The storyline advances as you go, until reaching Northrend where you are greeted by many of the old npcs from the early zones. Totally reworking the beginning zones to a later storyline would completely ***** that up, and Blizzard loves its lore too much to do that. This sounds more like an idea that may have been kicked around by some of the devs at some point, but not one that is actually going to be implemented. I guess we'll just wait and see.

It would certainly make it badass for a progression server down the road though! :)
