Onyxia Being Revamped For Level 80

Part of the 5th anniversary celebration the Onyxia raid dungeon in Dustwallow Marsh will be upgraded to level 80 and have a 10 and 25 man mode. Also for a limited time during the celebration everyone who logs in will receive a Onyxia Brood Whelping pet. This will all happen in the 3.2.2 content patch.

She has lurked in her lair and done battle with the many brave adventurers who travelled to that familiar location over the years. Now, in honor of the World of Warcraft 5-year anniversary, the dreaded brood mother Onyxia is being revamped to make a return to the forefront of Azeroth, as part of our big plans for the upcoming 3.2.2 content patch.

This permanent update to Onyxia will convert the dungeon into 10- and 25-player modes. We will be adding new items to Onyxia’s loot table that have the same model as some of the classic loot from this dungeon, like Tier 2 helms, with stats updated to match the current level of content. There will be a special new item too: a normal drake-sized 310% speed flying mount modeled after Onyxia herself called an Onyxia Broodling. We will also be updating the encounter mechanics to be more fitting for modern raiding, but we can guarantee players will get to experience the frightening horror of deep breaths once again.

Then for a limited time, after the 5-year anniversary event officially begins in November, anybody who logs in will receive an Onyxia Brood Whelpling pet.

We’re very excited to bring this classic encounter back to provide a fun new experience for both new and veteran players. Further details will be available in the near future, and we will be setting up the Public Test Realms soon to help test out this fight along with all the new content we have planned for the patch. Keep an eye on the forums for updates!

Scalable levels.

I think that they should offer all of the dungeons on scalable levels. I still love SM, one of my favorite places in the entire game.

I hope all the post Vanilla players who are looking forward to oxyxia for the first time are also looking forward to the absolutely ridiculous attunement quests! At least they better after blizzard put the rest of us through that hell.

I actually miss the attunement quest. Especially the stormwind part.
I do think that attunement was a good thing though. When people actually had to put in a bit of effort before they could enter a particular raid they ended up far better prepared for it and there were a lot less useless raiders as a result. Even some dungeons required a bit of preparation (such as keys for scholo, arc and shattered halls).

I remember all the loops you had to leap through to get the scholo "skeleton key". I was proud when I got it.

Then I found out you can walk through the locked door as a ghost and spawn on the other side. That was disappointing.
Isn't that what Heroic mode is ??

The game is already 80% level 80's in holding patterns if they remove more old world content and 'update' it to level 80 it is just going to make leveling up an alt all that much less appealing.
They need to be adding content that will change and scale to various levels to provide some appeal to players of all levels. I also firmly beleive that the mob AI is a seriously lacking and under-used feature that would make the game much better.

So there is still hope for VC after all. I like this change to. I've done her once for the achievement at 73, so this will be fun. I'm sure the "More Dots" video will make a revival.

I would not mind seeing other old raid bosses revamped in this style. Ever think of fighting Ragnaros with the new fire graphics upgrade??

I was just thinking about all the people now excited about being able to level cap themselves at 60 to experience old world content at proper levels and rofl here goes Onyxia, after Naxx left last year.

I'm looking forward to this. I've only ever experienced her as a 68 DK in a 10-man, and as a 60 mage again in a 10-man (both prevalent with level 70s), or from the videos from years ago of guild runs.

I, for one, am very excited that one of the defining and symbolic, almost to the point of legendary, raid bosses gets a makeover so that people like me who never truly experienced her glory during vanilla or those who joined after (particularly those who have joined in the past 9 months) get to witness first hand the power of "Mass Fear + Environment Damage = Wipe"

TLDR; WOOHOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!

I think this is awesome. Considering I've only just realized that Ony is such an easy easy fight. I consistently 2 man her all the time now. I probably can solo it now... Revamping it for 10 man will be awesome.

I'd rather they upgrade BWL and AQ20/40 to BWL 10/25, AQ10/25. But meh. I like that old content, it's well rehearsed, not buggy (as much), and for the most part still mean as all a woman's fury.
Great Idea

I think that this is a great idea. I can't wait to see the stats on the loot and Onyxia's new abilities. I am just a little confused however. It says that this will all happen in the 3.2.2 content patch but shouldn't it be in patch 3.3?... or is this going to be in a minor content patch? Just that 3.2.2 is going to come out in about a week and the new Onyxia hasn't been on the PTR as there isn't one.

Thanks.

Considering it seems Icecrown is going to be absolutely MASSIVE I expected another recycled raid. Collesium obviously wasn't going to last too long and it seemed too soon for IC to come out just yet.

This is kind of creative though. I like this idea honestly. Onxyia obsolete content. Updating it to be worthwhile is kind of nice. It may be recycled to many, but for us who weren't around in Vanilla it IS new content for us. Worthwhile at that.
Well this will be interesting.

It may be recycled but With the new loot to look forward to, this is going to make it worthwhile if anything for the new mount.

I like having the old tiers sometimes, it's nostalgic. The old dungeons are a bit....old though.
