Strand of the Ancients BG Gets "Coin Toss" Start

It might not seem like a big deal to PvE-oriented players, but everyone who loves the occasional Battlegrounds can finally rejoice in a long-awaited fix: the faction that begins the first round of Strand of the Ancients will finally be decided by the random "coin toss" mechanic, as announced by Zarhym in the official forums.

"The current plan is to implement the 'coin toss' for Strand of the Ancients in the next major content patch," Zarhym writes. "We know it's been a long time coming, but the solution to the issues preventing us from originally randomizing who starts on offense/defense is in the works right now."

Definitely great news for fans of this Battleground, especially Horde players. Currently, the Alliance always receives the (alleged) advantage of playing the first round; an advantage that Horde players have been complaining about since the Battleground's inception. Zarhym says the coin toss mechanic will go live in the next major content patch (presumably patch 3.2).

Wow, seems like a stupid thing to *complain* about. Maybe recommend? I always wished there was a randomness to it. But in my battlegroup Alliance loses most of the time anyway. So I don't see much complaining from the Horde...

That's all very well but when will we actually be able to use strands tokens for anything other than just turning in for honour? All that time I was doing battlegrounds at level 70 I knew my tokens were worth something. I could save them up for some gear, a mount etc. As much as I like strands there's simply no point in doing it. I'm not real big on pvp and only do it if there's rewards for it and with that being the case with strands there's just no reason for me to do it.

The amount of honor gained from the repeatable turn-ins for badges is pretty note-worthy, so I still think it's worth it to do a few, turn in the tokens, then cycle through the battlegrounds again. That's what I do, at least.

All you can get is honor though which I can just as easily get from doing wintergrasp. Combine that with the wintergrasp tokens and I'm not only getting honor but also getting stonekeeper shards and wg tokens - both which can be used for items. There's nothing you can get with strands tokens apart from honor which is just as easy to get from other battlegrounds.
