Should WoW Celebrate Other Blizzard Launches?

Vaneras has posted an interesting discussion topic on the official European forums in response to a player asking if there will be small in-game events in World of Warcraft when StarCraft II and Diablo III launch. The original poster suggested a zerg invasion or having Diablo roam Azeroth may be fun.

According to Vaneras, Blizzard currently does not have an answer to that question, but "this shouldn't stop you from speculating or hoping that something cool might happen in World of Warcraft when Starcraft II and Diablo III will be released." Vaneras asked players to keep submitting event ideas, but only if they fit in with WoW lore somehow.

So what do you think? Should the launch of other Blizzard titles be celebrated in WoW, or should they be kept separate? Also, what are your ideas for such an in-game event?

cow zone

finally a valid reason for a Cow Zone. Make things easier for those weapon leveling runs or even leveling in general. Would have to edit that Tip about No Cow though.
Well....

I don't think this would be a huge distraction. Blizzard is a company that could advertise there own games. However, with that being said Blizzard does not need to advertise there games. What gamer has not play starcraft? Diablo as well? Maybe I am the only one thinking this but the release of Starcraft II is huge. Huge for Blizzard as well as gamers. I have never played Diablo but it's big enough for me to know it's important. I would welcome not and event but something for the release of these games. (I feel like and event such as making new models is way too much but something would be nice)

The idea of having a little event or thing going on when starcraft and diablo launches is a really great idea.. though imo it shouldnt be as big as "Diablo roaming Azeroth".. a little celebration is fine but it can easily be to much.. With that said, I hope that something will happen. So bring the ideas to them ^^

my only idea is something like the 4th year of wow, where you got a little pet. It doesnt harm any kind of lore (atleast not more than the Marine Murlocs does) and it could be fun to have a little pet diablo following you around.

Diablo was the bonus pet for buying the collector's edition of WoW. I believe the Zerg was either another choice of bonus pet for C.E. WoW, or for Burning Crusade.

So having them as vanity pets is out.

Not so many were able to get those pets. In fact I believe they were only offered at conventions or events in Europe as pets.

Besides pets I would just as well NOT see anything. If I am playing WoW, thats what I want to play. If I want to see any aspects of the the other games I can play those.

Could have in 1 or 2 of the neutral zones have a protoss ship crash or a Human (Terran) ship taking off to go into the great unknown, with gnome and/or goblin engineers working on the ship, Diablo could replace Rag in Molten Core for a Week or put him in one of the newer instances kinda like the way Headless Horseman is, could have quests for these especially the Terran ship where you get a marine helmet or a gun like the ones in Starcraft for helping the Humans get the ship running, get a baby Protoss pet or some trinket that a protoss might have. The wanderers robe or the Bloodstone as a trinket from Diablo. I could go for a Zergling or a Mini diablo, haha I'm so jealous of the people that have those.......

Zerg Invasion

They could have the Silithids (sp?) sweep across Azeroth. They're almost the Zerg anyway.

Lore.. hmm. They could have diablo trip through the dark portal. and go on a rampage across BC ;)
The lore side? Diablo was full of portals, WoW is full of portals.. = linked lore )

Vaneras addressed this topic a little later in the thread:

we do have the occasional novelty pets and easter eggs that doesn't really fit with World of Warcraft lore and such, but they are rather rare and doesn't at all have the same impact on the game as for an example a massive Zerg invasion would have... remember the Zombie invasion anyone?

So yeah, from that comment it seems Blizzard is OK with Easter eggs that don't tie into lore when they're smaller, but not with larger events.

The stupid zombie invasion was one of the worst planned events in any game I've ever played. Life in the cities ground to a halt as retarded players began griefing each other and the city zones became so over run with zombies of significant level that many of my non level 70 friends stopped playing during that so-called event, and I can name 3 that quit following it. In game events are fine, but they need to ensure that it DOES NOT disrupt the entire flow of the game. I personally cannot stand RTS (ie warcraft/starcraft) games, and while Diablo1/2 was pretty it bored me to tears quickly, I guess I am just not the button mashing maniacal item collector some folks are. As for fitting in with LORE, what about the bloody mountain dew battle bots, that fits right in with lore...NOT. Bottom line, from Blizz's point of view fitting in doesn't matter, PROFIT does. Will it make more, or hurt the existing? If the answer is make more then it fits the lore...
eh?
