Ghostcrawler Expects Fewer Class Changes

Greg "Ghostcrawler" Street has commented in the official forums that he doesn't expect the next several patches to contain nearly as many class changes to talents and mechanics as were implemented in patch 3.1. He then followed that statement up with this quote from the same thread:

There are a few classes or specs that will probably continue to see more changes than others. DKs as a new class have 5 years of player history to catch up to. The Ret rotation is something we already said we'd like to evolve further.

TLDR: don't expect 3.2 to have a list of class changes as epic as 3.1.

Then today in another thread, Ghostcrawler said changes will be made when needed. His reiterated his prediction that there won't be as many class changes needed, "but let’s see where things stand in a few more weeks."

Translation - "We'll see what the next class is that people whine about being OP and we'll nerf that also. Allow us to announce our next expansion - WoW: Hello Kitty Adventure Island."

Stop nerfing us. It's annoying. It's more than annoying when a skill is nerfed because it's "too powerful" for PvP but works just fine in PvE. Stop changing the game to satisfy the PvP whiners. They're the vocal minority.

I really think the solution is simple to this problem. However they have stated they are reluctant to do it...have slight modifications to how skills work in PvP. I think its insane trying to balance so many classes and specs for one style of play as it is. Let alone throw in PvP. They will never find that perfect balance between PvP and PvE and all they manage to do is annoy their customers in the process. We already see this in some skills like CC abilities and Hand of Reckoning. I don't see why they should resist the easiest solution that involves very little bickering and makes both PvErs and PvPers happy.

These are the two major "camps" in the game. Those who like PVP and those who like PvE. Most people tend to side towards one or the other. I think both sides should be content in their own aspect of the game without being (too) effected by the other.

I've been saying the same thing. You have PvE, which is broken down into solo play, 5-man runs, 10-man, 25-man and old-school 40-man runs.

Then you have PvP, broken down into duels, arena (broken down further into 2, 3 and 5) and BG's.

I think the solution is to use this new dual spec and take it a step further. Give players a PvE set of skills and a set of PvP skills, both with the dual spec ability (maybe have players pay 1k gold for each side). Then have the skills be different in each build, structured for balance in that particular area. When you switch to a PvP situation (going into Arena or a BG), your skillset would automatically switch over. The only problem is how to handle it for duels or on a PvP realm.

class changes I can deal with, the constant respec, and the SERVER INSTABILITY is what is killing me. So tired of having to relearn my talents every 3 days, and the semi-nightly reboots as a new 'feature' are getting really old. Today's 13:20 suprise reboot to deal with 'NPC' issues is a prime example.....15 min's notice....WTG Blizzard.....really makes it hard to do anything if you can't count on the place being there, as it was we just got out of VH in time to not all be dead on reboot. Thanks again Blizz for the reach around and all the comprehensive testing that obviously DID NOT go into this fix to the patch to the fix of the patch.

In Blizzard's defense there is a HUGE difference between transferring and establishing data from a few select test realms (Which I imagine are all duplicate servers and ideally setup) to active servers with millions of characters. The earlier servers are probably not the exact same setup that the ideal test realms are and it takes work and effort to go from a test environment to a massive public release with varying servers and setups.

Its not so simple as click, drag, and drop. Nor is upgrading the realm servers as easy as calling up Dell and getting a replacement.

Well I don't think its just 3.1. I think practically every patch from 3.0-3.1 has had major spec altering changes. To the point where I know many of my guildies (including myself) are down right infuriated. I understand they want to "balance" everything. But there is a point where people get beyond irritated with having to relearn their class/spec again and again and again and again and again. It wreaks of ArenaNet's monthly nerfs to Guild Wars. And part of the reason much of my guild bailed on the game.

I understand its an MMORPG and the environment is constantly changing. But when over the course of 6 months you repeatedly hack apart people's favorite builds patch after patch after patch it becomes frustrating and you start wondering why even bother playing if you have to completely relearn major class/spec strategy every month.

I guess they feel like they nerfed us enough. The DK nerfs were way too harsh IMO and the spirit nerf is just BS since there are classes doing massive DPS that don't even have to worry about OOM.

Blizzard made tons of class changes in 3.1 and they know they irritated alot of players because of it.

This is called damage control, and it's such an easy thing to say. Don't expect as many class changes in upcoming patches... (paraphrase).

Doh!

awesome
