Patch v3.1 Class Change Preview

Eyonix put out a preview of some upcoming class changes for Priests, Shaman and Rogues. This is part 1 of 3 parts which will eventually display all upcoming changes for every class. Some notable changes in this post are increasing Priest survivability in PVP. Read on to see the entire article!

We are planning a lot of exciting content for patch 3.1.0, and we are doing a three-part preview series on upcoming class changes. This is the first in the series: Priests, Rogues, and Shaman. Please keep in mind, that this list is not at all comprehensive, and subject to change.

PRIEST
  • Divine Spirit – this spell is now a core ability available to all priests.
  • Discipline has access to a new talent, Power Word: Barrier. (Think of it as Power Word: Shield for your whole group).
  • Several area of effect (AOE) heal spells have been improved: Prayer of Healing can be cast on any groups in your raid party. Holy Nova’s mana cost has been reduced. Circle of Healing now heals for more.
  • Shadow priest PvP survivability has been improved: Shadow Form now reduces magic as well as physical damage. Dispersion now removes snares.
  • Penance – this spell can now be targeted on the priest.
  • Serendipity – this talent now reduces the cast time of Greater Heal and Prayer of Healing when Binding Heal or Flash Heal are cast.
  • We are also working to give Holy additional PvP utility.

    ROGUE
  • Hunger for Blood – instead of a self-buff, this ability can only be used when there is a bleed effect on the target. However, it has no stacks and grants a 15% damage bonus.
  • Adrenaline Rush – the cooldown on this ability has been lowered.
  • Lightning Reflexes – reduced to 3 ranks. In addition to 2/4/6% dodge, this talent now also grants 4/7/10% passive melee haste.
  • Killing Spree – while this ability is active, the rogue does 20% additional damage.
  • Savage Combat – now causes 2/4% physical damage done.
  • Mace Specialization – this talent now grants haste in addition to armor penetration.

    SHAMAN
  • Chain Lightning – now jumps to 4 targets but does less damage. We wanted to make the distinction between Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning more clear.
  • Storm, Earth and Fire – this talent now increases all damage done by Flame Shock, not just periodic damage.
  • Spirit Weapons – now reduces all threat, not just melee threat.
  • Unleashed Rage – reduced to 2 ranks, now also increases your critical strike chance with melee attacks by 1/2%.
  • Totem streamlining: The Mana Spring and Healing Stream Totems have been combined. The Disease Cleansing and Poison Cleansing Totems have been combined.
  • We are also working on giving Enhancement and Elemental more PvP utility.

    Holy Pally better get a HoT or an AoE heal we need to be more effective healers I can barely afford to spend mana on Beacon of Light and Holy Light too often and spamming flash of light doesn't keep the tank up during big fights. Holy shock is only good for a quick heal, but it doesn't help when people decide to sit in an AoE attack and take it like a squishy. I would be fine if they made beacon of light affect all members instead of just two people that would be more of an effecient spell then and would be easier on my mana. Or at least make Beacon of Light not require me to heal someone with say +2000 something damage to effectively heal the tank with the effect. My flash of light heals for around 2.9k-3.4k and 4-5k on crits, so if if i heal someone to top them off and the tank is taking a beating and i heal the first target for 2k the tank gets healed for 2k, it's a waste of mana. Also it gets tiring of putting judgement of light on a target at the beginning of every pull and keeping it up every 10 or so seconds to keep the DPS and tank healing up (if they hit the target). Paladins just need better mana regen in the long run my mana endurance is shorter than ever because of the costs of spells going up higher and higher.

    Does it have to? The post goes on to list what is upcoming, I am expressing what I hope to see changed to Holy Paladins (if they make any.) If you are trying to make me seem like I didn't read the post you aren't going to succeed there. Not to start a thread battle with you or anything, but just trying to be civil about this by saying "Sorry you missunderstood." Have a nice day ^_^ V

    You're doing something wrong then because I can keep beacon of light up on the tank and sacred shield up on the tank and off tank 100% of the time and have no mana issues whatsoever.

    In 5 mans I never have to rest for mana and can keep beacon up on tank all the time.

    Well my mana is around 16k-17k (if i have kings) Beacon costs me 1.3k mana and Holy light 1.2k (With Seal of Wisdom) I am in mostly blues and a few epics, I don't feel like I'm doing anything wrong. I use divine plea and lay on hands to restore mana, I use mana pots when I have to, and I even enjoy having a shadow priest, ret pally, or shaman along to provide extra mana regen.

    I know from BC i had a meta gem that gave +12 int (if memory serves) and restored 300 mana on some spell casts so that helped a great deal. Maybe I just need to work on mana regen cause that's what my biggest problem seems to stem from is mana endurance. Over all though yeah I can heal fairly well but it's just when I am forced to use Holy Light and Beacon of Light it drains my mana quite quickly.

    The problem with your gear is that nowhere near enough of it has crit. Your priority should always be spellpower & crit > haste > mp5.

    mp5 is relatively useless for a paladin anyway. Almost all of my items (excluding trinkets) have crit on them and (with set bonus for 2 pieces of t7) my holy light has 52% crit unbuffed and it could get a LOT higher than that. It should be perfectly feasible for your holy crit as read on your char screeen to be 35%+ (then you've got +5% for FoL with glyph and +6% on HL and HS from talent). Tie that in with glyphed SoW , the Heroism badge libram and the meta gem you mentioned (Insightful Earthstorm diamond) you should never be oom. I don't think I've ever really used LoH either, divine plea easily covers mana usage in most scenarios.

    I assume that you're not regularly doing Naxx10, so it may be difficult to replace a lot of your gear to start. You DEFINATELY want the libram and the belt from the badges. It's also worth grinding argent crusade rep for the epic plate helm at exalted (it's not a particularly well rounded item, but it does have a meta socket).

    Thanks for the info, I first just got exalted with Wyrmcrest and I'm revered with AC now and I just started a new guild and I try and refrain from doing PUGs for Naxx10. But it's hard to find good groups, and I don't want to leave the guild I started with my g/f to get into an already high end raiding guild.

    Neat! Only downside to all these notes is that with DS as a core talent I will need to make room for yet another healing spell on my bars *grins*
