Welcome to the New Allakhazam!

No this isn't some optical illusion. You are not going crazy. This is the new Allakhazam. We have completely revamped the Allakhazam World of Warcraft site and are kicking off the revamp with a month long celebration of our community. Check out our new look and all of the new features and then join in the fun for a chance at some great prizes. Every addition to our wiki, forums or comments this month could make you eligible to win one of seventy-two sixty day game cards we are giving away, or one of three Wii Galaxy Bundles, or our grand prize, a gamer friendly Laptop Computer. Full prize descriptions and details on eligibility and how to enter can be found at this link.

What are you waiting for? Go ahead and check everything out. This is not just a graphical update. We've added a pile of new features as well to make your experience even better. For a quick tour, check out the following links: Wiki, Quests, Items, Mobs, Zones, Factions, Maps, Zone Levels, Profiles and our Live Forum (must be logged in for the last two). Be sure to hit our dropdowns for even more information.

For a more detailed description of the changes, click inside and read on.

  • Newly Flexible Wikibase Pages. What do you get when you combine the searchability and stability of a database with the flexibility and editability of a wiki? A wikibase! All of our old database pages -- quests, items, mobs, zones, and more -- have been individually redone with a sleek new look that makes the data easy to find and easy to use, and gives you the community the ability to add your own content. Unlike other wikis, our wikibase updates directly from the game and is thus guaranteed to be up to date. Unlike other databases, our wikibase also gives you the ability to add and edit content directly to the wikibase page. This type of sleek, flexible, community driven content is meant to provide everything you could want on a subject all in one place.
  • Find More Content. Tired of clicking pages deep into searches hoping to find what you want? As part of our new flexibility, our users can add their own tags to pages to narrowly specify the content on that page for our search engine. This means it is more likely than ever you will find exactly what you want on the very first search. In addition, every wikibase page links directly to Wowhead and Thottbot, so if you don’t find what you are looking for here, you are just one click away from two more incredible sets of resources. Imagine looking up a quest and being able to access all three sets of comments with just an easy click back and forth.
  • New Profile System. Want to know how to improve your character? Upload your profile using our armory importer or through using wowreader and then pin your character. Afterwards, check out our profile upgrade search. This is a complex search that lets you tailor your upgrades to exactly what you want and then see how to get them. Pinning your character also adds your equipped item to every item page on the site and tells you exactly how your stats will change were you to upgrade to that particular item. And for sheer coolness factor, check out our 3D model viewer which shows you exactly what your character will look like in whatever set of cloths you want him or her to wear.
  • Expanded WoW Coverage. We’re not just a database any more. You may already have noticed our new user created blogs. We also offer a full wiki, complete MMO gaming news, an MMO game list, our great forum community and much more. Check out our expanded menu system, look around our new front page, and be sure to visit every day to not miss any of our exciting additions. Combined with our sister sites Wowinterface, Thottbot and Wowhead, we offer you everything you ever need to know about the World of Warcraft.

Haven't been here in a while? Welcome back! We hope you like what we have done enough to stick around and help us build on the best WoW community around.

Quest Tracking horror
# Jun 08 2008 at 7:28 AM Rating: Decent
I think the thing that bothers me the most is the lack of quest chains. Prior to the update, quests were not only organized by "Starting Quest" alphabetically, but the follow-up quests were then indented and listed as well. Now its just what ever quest happens to be tagged under that zone/instance/etc. I find this extremely ineffective. I am afraid that I will have to go else where to get the information I require, or simply just create it myself.

I have to agree with the previous poster who stated "If it aint broke, dont fix it!"

Created this account to say I understand you wanting to fresshen up the site but there is a great deal of lag time that didn't exist before, at least for me. Instead of 1-2 seconds now more like 7-8.

I like the layout and am willing to learn how to navigate around here, but there is the old saying, "If it ain't broke don't fix it."

Appreciate your efforts and will take some time to get used to this, but it's still better than Vista!

Later.

The new look is alright. Maybe a little better than the old, but I'm not to interested in the sites aesthetics.

But, damn it, why'd you have to take away MOTD and Snapshot? Other than looking up info, that was the only reason to visit the site. It sure wasn't for the "news", or more accurately, whiney douches complaining about their pansy guilds.

Bring back MOTD and Snapshot!
new Allakhazam!

I have to agree to most of the post... The old Allakhazam was realy better.

My main complaint is about the drop-down menu. If for exemple you try to go to Alchemy... It could take forever to choose "Game info" professions, primary, and then Alchemy, without going a bit to high or to low so that the menu disapear and that you have to start again.

I'm 35, and still it take me 5-6 time, everytime, to go to the menu I want to go ! It might be funny to see my dad trying to go thru one of your drop-down menu !

Sorry guys, from my point of view, this is not Success... except if you have a deal with thottbot!!

Search.. Filter.. Find.. Lookup.. I don't give a Furbolg's furry butt what you call it, just bring it back.. Search Bestiary. Search Items. Search Quests.

I liked the old look better because it gave Allakhazam a unique look and feel. The new look is okay, even if it is generic, but the ability to find whatever you wanted quickly and easily was what really made Allakhazam so much better than most other WoW sites, and that is gone.. ..But look at the good side, you will be saving more and more band width as fewer and fewer people come back to your web site...
Sometimes fancy isn't necessarily better

The new site looks pretty, but it's lost its useability for me. I used to be able to pop into Allakh to do a quickie search on whatever I was looking for--an item lookup, a quest lookup, a mob or NPC lookup--but now the pages take a *long* time to load (I did a search a little while ago and had to wait while 800+ items loaded before the page would open)and it takes me 3 or 4 tries to hit the side menu items off the drop down menus. This new site is very cumbersome. I don't like the quest lookup. I can't seem to find the info I want anymore. Why can't the Quest menu have a Search choice like the Items menu does? It is irritating me to have to jump through hoops going 3 menus deep looking for a place to search a quest name. Where is the quest chain info and the drop info? I used to use Allakh exclusively and recommend it without hesitation. I liked it better than Thottbot because it was more intuitive for me, but that's not the case anymore. I'm going back over to look at Thottbot again.

And besides the lost premium account
# Jun 06 2008 at 12:11 AM Rating: Decent
I really dislike your new format. Sorry. I knew the other one so well, I could fine everything I wanted to know quickly and easily. I could get all the information possible on an item or ingredient. Now... I don't know where the hell anything is!

I'd rather play my game than spend a lot of time figuring out your new setup. What the hell were you thinking?? This a financial decision? (Silly me, of course it is.)

A gradual change of format would have been better... as is done in most new software releases.

So what happened to my premium service?
# Jun 06 2008 at 12:01 AM Rating: Decent
It's gone. My account lists that it is not active, when it most certainly should be. I've done all that I can do per the info in your Premium FAQ.

You seem not to have any tech support address.

I liked your old format better, especially since I had paid to not be bombarded with ads, and here you are bombarding me with ads despite paying your premium fee.

Your old quest pages were much better
# Jun 05 2008 at 8:35 PM Rating: Decent
I can't believe your new quest pages don't show quest threads. IMHO your old style was so much better then this. I'm very sad to see it change. I will be searching for a site that does group the quests by their threads. I really do hope you reconsider your changes here. I find nothing better with theses changes and a lot far worse for the change.
Missing some fun features
# Jun 05 2008 at 3:30 PM Rating: Decent
I have to agree with an earlier post; where are the quotes and player profiles? Thatose were really fun. Also NOT a fan of the new color scheme. I have a HD monitor and this thing is just about blinding.
As for features and searches, I reserve judgement until I've fiddled with it some more.
Overall, I don't hate it, but it's not the love of my life either.

Azanti
Thumbs up- overall
# Jun 05 2008 at 1:46 PM Rating: Decent
At first, I was like "new look?... meh." Now that I'm digging through it, it's growing on me. The pages do load faster. I'm not sure I like the search menu as much. It could be a little bigger in size and stay up a fraction of a sec longer when the mouse moves off of it. LOL, maybe I'm just used to the slow response of menues in Vista.

I'm not going to be one of the "OMFG!!! I'm never using this site again!!!!" guys. I'm sure that there will be tweaks coming in the future and I'm sure a lot of the complaints will lessen the more people get used to the new interface. It looks like a lot of work was put into the site. Like my subject says "overall, thumbs up".

The Old site was much easier to navigate and was much better. You should bring the old one back. A lot of other people feel the same way about this.

I used the guides twice a week. Now most are gone. I like all of them even the ourdated and obsolete(to see how things were in the "old days") I want my guides to strath, scholo, and tanking.

Absolutely useless. don't mean to trash your great new ideas, but you lost all of your useable features that people enjoyed and came to your site specifically to use.

if you wanted to farm a specific item, you could look up the item, and see all of the possible drops. now you just show the mob with a percentage, not even where to find it, and percentages for mobs in different areas.

you can't track quests with their prereq's anymore. the old one could have been tweaked, but i won't be using this one anymore.

Dislike this a lot.
This color is just bland, font is too small, and I find myself squinting after just reading a few posts..I didnt think I need new glasses yet...

The old Alla had character, it was fun, it was WoW.
This is not.
Hate it

I created an account for the first time just to tell you this change was a mistake. I've used your site and Thottbot for 3 years now. I preferred this site for most things especially the AH data.

I will not be using this site any longer but will check in periodically to see if you make any changes.

What do I like about the site. Literally, nothing. Sorry for being so negative but this really is a major disappointment for me.

Regards,
Van
I luv ya Alla, but you suck now ....

This was a great site a week ago ,,,, blog WTF!?!?!! ... now this crap that is kind of a step behind in technology, are you using VISTA + HEROIN, it's the only reason I can think of. those that like the new set-up;enjoy. OK I love this site - before I log onto the game I put this up so it's ready and waiting for me when I need a hand - problem is that I'm in digital marketing and know you have to keep up and make changes to keep things fresh but really guys, what were you thinking; beige?

I wear glasses and do have problems with some sites as I find them very hard to read - if the font was larger or there were much bigger colour contrasts with things it would be better.

The other big problem is with missing the left hand menus that made everything so simple for myself and as I see from above, for others too - your front page is more narrow than other pages like this one so couldn't you leave the menu on there at least?

Also - where are the funny quotes and the reader supplied pictures - I use to log onto the site every day just to check those out and I know they hadn't been regularly changed for a while (maybe you were busy designing?) but now they have gone completely? Why would you do that??? I love those things!

Long time user of the network in general, first time poster in WoW forums. I like the redesign and I personally have had an easier time navigating and even stumbled upon features I didn't know were here. After playing FFXI for 4 years and changing over to WoW and I kept my premium with Alla. I have seen many changes over the years with the Alla network and I think it keeps getting better and better. Keep up the good work!

One issue I've found is if you are using the drop down menus to browse items (ie Items>Browse>Weapons>Swords) you are not given the option to open the links for the items in a new window or tab.

Any way to get the menus back
# Jun 04 2008 at 10:13 AM Rating: Good
I do like the new colours, but the site has become practically unusable as I have to search through each drop down menu to try and find what I wanted. With the old site all I had to do was scroll down the page or use the search function. Please revert or give us the opertunity of chosing the old standard layout
