New Campaign Elements (02/07/2008)

From Playonline.com:

The upcoming version update will bring several adjustments to the existing Campaign system, as well as introduce numerous new features.

Since the release of the Wings of the Goddess expansion pack, countless adventurers have enjoyed serving their nations in the Campaign theater. Occurring in higher frequency than their Besieged counterparts, Campaign battles offer a more readily available venue, where players may take on more varied and rewarding roles.

As a result, we recognize the need to make adjustments and introduce new content in order to prevent repetitiveness in the gameplay and enemy AI.
Following in that vein, the next version update will herald in a number of alterations and additions to Campaign.
We would like to take this opportunity to introduce four of the new elements that will be incorporated:

  • Beastman Strongholds

Strongholds will be introduced in association with each Beastman controlled territory. Campaign battles will occur when the Allied Forces of Altana come to hold sway over any territory lying on the outskirts of said Beastman strongholds.

  • Belfry

Available to both the Allied Forces of Altana as well as the Beastman Confederate, the belfry will become available to armies attacking regions not under their influence once their technological means have reached a predetermined level.
Since they house a "war bell" capable of calling forth reinforcements, it is imperative that players not only protect the belfries of the Allied Forces tooth and nail, but also demolish those of the Beastman Confederate as quickly as possible.

  • Mantelet

The mantelet is also available to both sides, and will be placed at a location that an army is defending once their technological means have reached a predetermined level.
The mantelet's benefit derives from its ability to restore the HP of friendly players within its vicinity. As such, much like the belfry, they must be defended or destroyed accordingly.

  • Siege Turret

Available only to the Beastman Confederate are siege turrets, which will appear when an army's technological means reach an incredibly high level while attacking an area not under their influence.
Capable of repeated long-range attacks, in addition to spawning ferocious enemies, the siege turret is widely considered to be the Beastman Confederate's most powerful and deadly weapon.

In addition to the items detailed above, further enhancements will be made to freelances, Campaign Ops, individual unit information and adjustments, and more!
Look forward to a richer, more complex Campaign!

"As long as they adjust mage exp, it'll be pretty cool." (see below)

Any job has a high potential to make some uber experience in Campaign. Enhancing spells/songs/dice spammed over and over will get you alot of exp fast. It will cap at 300 post level 65. So talk to npc to get your exp and then get fresh tags. Repeat. I have gotten as little as 1600 exp and as much as 3600 exp from single battles, just depending on how long it lasts. I personally prefer to go as /brd since I do not have to worry about resting for MP that way.

Make a macro for 3 enhancing songs. Repeat the macro 6 more times. (21 songs for you math wiz's) Talk to npc. Get about 295-300 exp. Get new tags. All that in 5 mins or less.

I do not know if you get more exp for casting enhancing on party members together. I will be experimenting with this idea. If I can get the same exp in half the time then imagine the results! 6k/battle sounds yummy, no?

I'll have to disagree with you on this. The problem with besieged is that is usually only about twice a day. Campaign is on going. It's great when you only have an hour or so to play. When I happen to be logged on when besieged is going, I usually go. It is hard. But I think that's what makes it fun. I always crack up when I get charmed and start chasing people with my 28 staff skill (I go rdm/whm). Yes, people die alot. But you don't lose exp as long as you participate. I have died 3 times before and still managed to get max exp. But then, I also go to campaign and die alot. Either way I have fun. If you don't like besieged no one is forcing you to go. Just do what you like and have fun.

while I do agree with you, I'm glad its only twice a day. The only reason I dislike besieged is because during those times it's impossible to get anything else done.
So like those people who only have a few hours to play, you can't get anything accomplished if besieged happens to fall within that timeframe XD

but thats just bad luck and the only fault for it is the diminishing amount of ffxi players ; ; beseiged itself is a great idea and is fun, despite the super mobs.

though undead besieged is the devil -.-!

I don't do campaign yet because it doesn't accomplish anything for me in the long run, i have too much stuff to do XD but when I do finish my stuff and have time for that, this update looks great ^_^

next would you Please add some more stuff to the NPC's ; ; my poor kitty's been sitting at 65 with randomly changing gloves and nothing to do for months hahaha.

may i also suggest an ffxi ad campaign! need more players >.> anyhow great update, goooo SE!

Riding around on chocobos sounds good to me. I just want to see Jeuno-S. And maybe get some new spells for RDM like Refresh II at higher lvl (70-75) refresh just doesn't give you enough MP to be very effective. I'd also like to see SE come out with a new weapon class. Whip, yes I said WHIP. It would be a good weapon for Dancer, Puppet Master, and maybe 1 or 2 other jobs. Also maybe more diversive weapons for some of the newer jobs.

Reason why people do Campaign more than Beseiged is because Besieged is stupid hard. I remember fighting a puk that kill 10 people. TEN! and I'm talking about a PUK! That's stupid. It's useless to do something if no matter what mob you fight, you're gonna die in 3~4 hits. It's not worth if. Personally, that's why I prefer Campaign. It's just plain easier and more fun. Being able to live more than 1 mintue is a great thing. *** Besieged.

#REDACTED, Posted: Feb 07 2008 at 8:35 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) okay if you say they need to adjust mage exp, then non-mage jobs need to take a hit too, so a reduction of def on all melee jobs sounds good.... Im pretty sure the formula to how everyone gains exp is the same. mages may get more because of curing all the people who cant cure themselves and raising the dead, last i knew a drk/sam doesnt have raise. I personally dont see any advantage of one job type over another when it comes to exp gained in campaigns. Of all the lvl 60+ people in my ls we all get about the same exp in campaigns, sometimes more sometimes less.

A RDM friend I know almost always gets around 1,000 more exp than I do per Campaign Battle at the same "rank" on my DRK or WAR. And that's with me fighting nearly constant.

I got roughly double what my 72BLM friend got last night (I'm 75DRG/WHM). He is also like 2-4 ranks higher then I am in campaign because I hardly go out there for anything other then leveling magic (don't get tags, and wait till someone has good hate on a mob, and start firing small spells). You have to remember, one of the point calculations uses your total damage. When I am doing a minimum of 100 points a swing, and I get around 13tp a swing, damage adds up fast. Now don't misunderstand what I am saying here. I am not saying "DRG pwns j00!". I would be one of the last people to start saying that. My friend did find this wiki on campaign battle point calculations. I have no idea how accurate it is, but I think it holds water and gives a good idea how points are done.

Quiet often, RDMs serve as tanks in campaign which would explain it. However, when you're playing strictly mage, you gain noticeably less then melee.

When I play as SMN I get the same cap as the NIN in my LS with relic katana. (well, I did until he ranked up quicker than me because I don't do that many campaign battles).
