Mage Tier 13 Preview and Retrospective

Blizzard has released a preview of the Mage Tier 13 armor set that will be available in World of Warcraft Patch 4.3. You can click on the above image to view a larger version. Here's their description of the Timelord Regalia:

"It’s fun to put a spin on any caster class that moves it away from the usual wizardly archetype, and this set provided the perfect opportunity to do just that. Gnomish clockwork technology is an established part of the Warcraft universe, but it’s not something we’ve incorporated into a tier of player armor before. The combination of moving cogs, quilted fabric, and lots of buckled straps give the set an intriguing 'techno-mage' flavor."

In addition to the Tier 13 reveal, Blizzard has posted a visual guide to mage Tiers 1-12 for Transmogrification purposes. Shaman Tier 13 Preview and Retrospective

Blizzard has released a preview of the Shaman Tier 13 armor set that will be available in World of Warcraft Patch 4.3. You can click on the above image to view a larger version. Here's their description of the Spiritwalker’s Vestments:

"The best shaman sets are a mix of the animal and the elemental. This tier combines huge wolf-skull shoulder pads, bone fetishes, and fur with glowing shards of amber crystal. The entire set is lashed together with lengths of rope and heavily stitched leather, which lends the set a savage bearing."

In addition to the Tier 13 reveal, Blizzard has posted a visual guide to shaman Tiers 1-12 for Transmogrification purposes. Druid Tier 13 Preview and Retrospective

Blizzard has released a preview of the Druid Tier 13 armor set that will be available in World of Warcraft Patch 4.3. You can click on the above image to view a larger version. Here's their description of the Deep Earth Vestments:

"The design called for "phosphorescent mushrooms, reminiscent of Zangarmarsh," so our main concern was avoiding making a helm that looked like a giant toadstool sombrero. We’re always looking to incorporate interesting light sources within a raid set, and bioluminescent vegetable growth certainly provides that. Twisting, organic shapes are often key elements of a druid set, and this tier is no exception, with writhing plant roots providing a frame for the glowing clusters of fungi."

In addition to the Tier 13 reveal, Blizzard has posted a visual guide to druid Tiers 1-12 for Transmogrification purposes. Warlock Tier 13 Preview and Retrospective

Blizzard has released a preview of the Warlock Tier 13 armor set that will be available in World of Warcraft Patch 4.3. Here's their description of the Faceless Shroud armor:

"A set with the flavor of the Old Gods about it - General Vezax from the Ulduar raid was a reference point. Any warlock tier is a great opportunity to bring a dark and warped aesthetic to player gear and this set was especially ripe for the treatment.

Replacing the caster’s face with writhing tentacles was the ‘hook’ I started the concept with and built out from there. We always try to include numerous points of illumination into a tier set as it helps to tie the various armour pieces together – whether that be glowing gemstones, fiery runes or, as in this case, bulging otherworldly eyes!"

In addition to the Tier 13 reveal, Blizzard has posted a visual guide to warlock Tiers 1-12 for Transmogrification purposes. You can view the warlock's armor history after the jump, and check out Wowhead's guide to find all your old tier gear.

Warrior Tier 13 Preview and Retrospective

Blizzard has released a preview of the Warrior Tier 13 armor set that will be available in World of Warcraft Patch 4.3. Here's their description of the Colossal Dragonplate armor:

"A simple concept – let’s make a Warrior Tier that looks like Deathwing! Gnarled dragon horn and angular elementium plating with burning fire behind it were the key ingredients.

The shoulder pads and helmets are uniquely modeled for each set, and that gives us great opportunities to create eye-catching silhouettes. In this instance, the sweeping horn shapes ensure a powerfully brutal-looking set for warriors."

4.3 Preview: Void Storage and Bag Search Feature

Blizzard just posted a preview of the Void Storage system that's coming in World of Warcraft patch 4.3. Since the Transmogrification armor and weapon customization system will require you to hold onto your favorite items, the Void Storage ethereals in Stormwind and Orgrimmar will give you 80 slots of long-term storage space.

Since this is long-term storage that's targeted toward sentimental and aesthetic reasons, "any item placed in Void Storage will be stripped of all its enhancements, including enchants, gems, sockets, and reforged stats, and some items will simply not be eligible for Void Storage at all." It will cost gold to unlock Void Storage; a screenshot in the preview says 1,000 gold, but that's not final. A small fee will be required for each item deposited into or withdrawn from Void Storage.

In addition to Void Storage, Blizzard is also adding a bag search feature in 4.3 that will allow players to search for items within their bags and bank space using small search box located near the top of your main backpack.

WoW Patch 4.3 Details Released at Gamescom

Blizzard is unveiling all sorts of World of Warcraft patch 4.3 details at Gamescom. In addition to the officially announced Transmogrification feature that allows players to customize the appearance of their weapons and armor, Lead Game Designer Tom Chilton told Kotaku that 4.3 includes "three dungeons for five-player instances and a new raid instance culminating in the Deathwing fight."

Our friends over at Wowhead summarized all of the 4.3 announcements that have been made in various interviews. Here's the list:

  • Deathwing in 4.3: According to Kotaku: "The Deathwing fight will be the most epic boss encounter to date, including a battle phase that takes place on the massive dragon's back as he flies through the sky."
  • There will be three 5-player instances: One will be Caverns of Time: War of the Ancients according to Buffed.de. Wowhead's German localizer said Blizzard indicated that another 5-man will be old content revisited. Wowhead's money is on Ahn'qiraj (AQ20/AQ40).
  • There will be a cross-realm raid finder.
  • From the Video Gamer transcript, apparently there will be a Darkmoon Faire Island with Whack-a-Gnoll.
  • There will be armor customization in 4.3: the Ethereal ability to transmogrify a player's armor, reskinning it to look like other armor in the game.
  • Purchasable 100-150 bank spaces for old gear: This may also serve as cross-realm storage or multiple character storage. This is unconfirmed but was hinted at; it makes sense, especially with the name "Void Storage."

Transmogrification Coming in WoW Patch 4.3

Remember that ethereal teaser image Blizzard posted last week? It turns out that it's for patch 4.3, which will feature a Transmogrification system that will allow you to customize the appearance of your weapons and armor. Here are the highlights from the preview Blizzard published today:

  • Ethereals will offer the service in the capital cities of Azeroth. It will cost gold.
  • Visiting a Transmogrifier will present players with a new interface that will allow them to change the appearance of an item while retaining its original stats. For example, you can raid in your paladin tier 12 Immolation set, but look like you’re wearing Lightbringer.
  • In general, only items that have stats can be used in the transmogrification process.
  • You must be able to equip both items, and you can't change weapon or armor types. You can't make plate look like cloth. Guns, bows, and crossbows will be the exception to this rule.
  • Transmogrification encourages players to hold onto items with sentimental or aesthetic value, so the ethereals will be offering a Void Storage service. More details to come.

Keep reading after the jump for Blizzard's full Transmogrification preview and a screenshot of the interface.
