Major change: Dropped herbalism (425 level) and took up enchanting. Not much time on it yet because I'm having a hard time finding supplies. And so far, everything I've found is too high level for me to disenchant. What's the best way to obtain low level greens for starting out? Auction? I thought of just going back and solo-running kiddie dungeons but at Level 71, that would be a colossal bore.

Ideas, anyone?

I've done that twice (but this time I kept enchanting). The easiest way I found is the boring way... just go back and slaughter little lvl 15 elites in RFC (if Horde) or WC. Otherwise, if you still have early lvl quests available, go do those for rewards.

The AH is not usually teeming with low lvl greens, so you may have to work for these ones, and then as you get higher in lvl they should be more readily available for purchase.

That is my two cents at least.

Once I get higher it'll be no problem. Solo hunters find lots of nice toys. You can actually do well lownballing those that can be sold at the AH. Being greedy, however, I always need more.

I believe that both Auctionator and Auctioneer/Enchantrix add a "disenchant value" to item tooltips, although only Enchantrix allows you to filter your AH scans for undervalued items. There's nothing magic, you can do the same thing by hand. The automation just makes the process a lot quicker and more reliable.

What you'll probably find is that it varies wildly by item level - at some places the dust/essences on the AH are 1/3x what vendors will pay for a green item, and at others it's 3x or more. If you concentrate farming on the valuable mats and use that to subsidize the cheap mats, you should come out ahead.

My main profession is skinning, which on my server is a real bonanza. An hour spent at Mudsprocket may not yield any experience, but enough heavy leather to be more than worthwhile. I have a decent stash, enough to pay for fast flying when it comes to needing it with a good cushion, so I figure I can pretty much subsidize the enchanting until it becomes a profit center on its own.

One thing I'd really love to see in WOW is a way for PLAYERS to set up as craftsmen and merchants, complete with premises, signs, etc. You'd probably need some sort of bot to mind the store, retail and take orders when you're offline or adventuring, but it'd add a whole new dimension to the game.

Olla I would like to see a change to crafting where Tailoring, Leatherworking, and Blacksmithing actually create items that are worth the cost to make.

Yeah, I like Moonkissed's idea way better. No offense Olla, but that reminds me too much of the FFXI bazaar system, which I thought was stupid.

Yeah. i tried leatherworkng once. povertyville. I should have paid more attention to the AH. Thee are always a flood of low level player=crafted items that sell for about vendor bid prices, if that.

The highest level PvP gear is OK on my server, maybe 25% over mats for a full set. PvE raiding gear is hit and miss, but one sale of an FL pattern can be over 10k profit by itself. I pay the vig by making Savage Leather into Heavy and Heavy into Pristine Hides.

Aside from the "Taking Orders" part, that's really not anything the AH doesn't already do for you.

It might be fun if the AH supported bid orders as well as postings. The trade channel was intended to provide this, but it's long since past redemption. It would provide more information as to what things are really worth, and probably reduce the one-copper undercutting wars at six times the market-clearing price. It would allow guaranteed, immediate sales with the tradeoff that you might be able to get a little higher margin if you listed on the post side of the AH. And it would be a good way to indicate that there is a buyer for that rare item that /someone/ out there is hoarding away.

How many actual grand master craftsmen (the ones who could make the really good stuff) actually exist on any given server, especially after separating Alliance and Horde?

Maybe it'd be good if you could set up in a neutral zone and sell to the highest bidder - from either faction.

Or to quote the immortal Tom Lehrer (as Werner VonBraun) "Once the rockets go up, who cares WHERE they come down? That's not my department..."
