I just started fishing, and I am up to 192. I've noticed that he skill-ups are becoming more rare. Is there a trick to making the skill ups come more often?

Nope. The skill-ups are determined by a formula based on number of catches. As you progress, it takes more catches to earn a point, so it is more than 450 casts to become fully maxxed out. It's similar to weapon skill-ups, where at the early stages every time you swing or punch you get a point, but then you have to do it more and more to get your next skill point.

Just wait until you want to level from 449 to 450. :)

Enjoy the 2-3 catches between skillups while you can. During the final stretch to 450, it's 12-13 catches between skillups, iirc.

Just keep on fishin. You're doing fine.

Today I was toying with the idea of non-stop fishing the day Cataclysm comes out, trying for the realm's first to reach the new fishing level cap. Last time when Wrath came out, I read people got it around 4-5am the day it was released.

The one thing that is good about fishing is that it makes no real difference what area you fish in apart from if the area is to high you get a lot of trash items , one of my alts built her rested time up in the sewers in dalaran only moving to empty bags or to get training for the next fishing level , it is not the most profitable way to level fishing as 90% ? of what i caught was grey items but an alchemist friend was happy with the mixed supply of empty vials and i ended up with the giant rat pet.

My favourite places to fish at around level 20-30 is either the pools at the wailing caverns or along the coast near ratchet , the caverns for deviate fish and along the coast is a lot of wreckage plus fish pools so either is profitable.

There are other places as you level up but none as profitable that i have spotted for a low level player , outland and beyond have some profitable pools depending on your server of course so just fish where you enjoy fishing as it makes no difference where you fish.

The pools of deviate fish in the Barrens are probably the most profitable way for a low-level toon to get fishing up. Less so, now that deviate fish are a reward from the Dalaran daily, but still pretty good, and if you have a cook with the recipe you can make enough Savory Deviate Delight to keep a ninja army supplied.

I'm working up my shaman's fishing. By the time you're able to fish in Northrend, it's not a bad idea to try and fish exclusively in pools for your skillups. Not only can you target certain fish to catch for cooking skillups or profitable sale, you have a chance to see something like this:

Draenei females look ridiculous on virtually any mount (the worst being horses). I just love running around Dalaran on it and stopping every once in a while to jump in place (makes the turtle go into its shell for a few seconds...I find it disturbingly entertaining lol)

Haha, I had no idea the turtle did that when you jump, I may have to actually try for it now.... <.<

Also, Talbuks are always a good choice. Everyone looks better on a Talbuk. Smiley: nod

And MetalM, Gnomes actually look even sillier imo--the shell has these cutouts in it to make room for legs, and they're really, really visible with a tiny race like Gnomes. Smiley: tongue

Best bet is to set your mind on the goal of catching enough fish from pools to make 3 stacks of fish feast. That's what I was trying to do...still need 80 Glacial Salmon to finish the fish feasts, though ;D

Heh, I've done that so many times over on my Night Elf hunter. At least I like fishing? xD

Yeah, I've seen that, but she's so cute I don't even care.

When I skilled up in fishing I followed these rules:

1) upon log in go to the closest body of water and fish until 5 skillups (not so tedious if you know it's only 5 skillups per setting but they add up),

2) when waiting for ships (alliance), fish until it arrives and then again onboard until it departs (bonus skillups).

3) once you get to Outlands fish in the pools for the achievements (if you care) to get a double hit of possible skill-ups and achivement progress.

Once you get to Northrend - do as mentioned above, fish in pools for food fish (make you own or sell for profit) and try for the turtle.

Note that if you fish in Dalaran you can work the pool nearby the bank/inn for the coins achievements (another double) and if you fish in the pool by the daily dungeon quest givers/Violet Hold instance you may get a key that unlocks the chest on the far side of the pool to get BOE blues.

Being able to earn achivements or other useful items makes the process less tediuous/more fun.

To gradually skill up my fishing, I would put a 10-minute lure and fish until that wore off and then started my WoWing day. Then when I got high enough to do the fishing dailies, I still did the 10-min thing, but the dailies became extra casts.

Another time to break out the UglyStik (tm) is when you are waiting for an instance or raid. Plop down next to a lake or whatever and fish 'til you're summoned.

There is a chart here: http://www.wowwiki.com/Fishing

It's only up to 400, but add 1-1.5 fish to 425 and 1.5-2 fist to 450 seems reasonable.

At least it is a concrete number, and you aren't relying on a random +1 from a green skill.

I think the night elves have the best fishing leveller at least to around 200 which with my luck is about what i get up to , all you do is get to auberdene and do the fishing quest on the beach then get the ones upstairs inside the inn , the first one is on the beach again but that second one can be trouble at times , i find it goes easier while having to quest although it can be annoying if you do not know the exact spots to fish in.

Are there similar quests horde side as i do not remember anything around level 10 ?
#19 Oct 07 2009 at 12:06 AM Rating: Decent
Nope, but we get one in Raventusk Village which is in the Hinterlands, and you only need 100 fishing to use the pole ( it gives +20 or 25 fishing). Sadly I've already done the quest and I tossed the fishing pole.

One question: Do you have to be a certain level of fishing to have the ability to complete the daily quests in either Northrend or Outlands? I can get the quests, but I'd rather not bother trying to do the quests until I know I can.

There are no fishing level requirements anymore, though it just may take you longer to make the catches.

Id been skipping the Outland fishing daily as my Fishing skill on my Shaman is pretty low, I'll have to start doing that now. Thanks for the info!
