Learning a new professionFollow

I had alchemy and engineering as my two professions. I wanted to switch alchemy for mining since that goes better with engineering. However, when I dropped alchemy I cannot find an apprentice mining trainer, they are all journeyman. Is there something that I am missing? I am not sure how to train in mining now? My character is only a level 19, would that make a difference?

If I'm not mistaken, all the profession trainers will train down the lower stuff. Even in Howling Fjord (Northrend) the Grand Master trainers have the beginning levels available for training. So I'm not sure if what you're saying is really likely. Unless it's a bug or something.

Maybe you *did* train apprentice without realizing? Check your spellbook/char sheet > Skills tab and see if the "find minerals" ability or "mining" skill show in there maybe?

Or possibly you have the "Show" settings in the trainer's window set to something that isn't showing the apprentice skill? Make sure it shows "Already trained," "Available," AND "Unavailable."

Where are you trying to train at? Maybe try going to whatever Main city is closest (Orgrimmar, Undercity, Silvermoon, Thunderbluff) and try one of those trainers if all else fails. I *know* you can get the inital training from them.

Sounds like you already trained mining - hit K and look at your skills - if mining is in them then you're set - make sure to go to the mining supplies vendor and buy a pick too - you need that to mine ore nodes.

To find the ore nodes look at your mini radar and click on the tracking circle (should be at the 10 oclock position) and click on 'track minerals' and whenever you see a yellow dot on your mini-map that'll be an ore node.

Thank you for the suggestions.
When I hit the K button it does not show any primary skills at all.
I am in Orgrimmar and can't do any training for apprentice mining.

Sorry if this sounds too simple minded, but if you don't show ANY professions when you hit "k" are you sure you are logged in on the right character, and not an alt with a similar name? 'Cause your engineering should show up unless you dropped that too.

I only suggest this because I once logged in and was all ready to take off for Tanaris, couldn't understand how I lost the flight path, 'til I realized I was on my 20something alt, not my 40something main.

Sorry. Should have mentioned that I did drop engineering too. I thought it might make a difference. I do show my secondary professions though, my fishing comes up normally.

I am a bit confused here as if you have dropped a trade the trainers should teach you a new trade and the only thing i can think of is this

as all the low area trainers should teach you and i assume you did check those settings ?? , i know i have changed trades on a few characters and had the settings not show me i could train when in reality i could after changing the settings.

Are you talking about the name of the mob being "journeyman miner"? If so, that's not a trainer. You have to actually visit a mining trainer. Ask a guard.

In Orgrimmar you want Makaru. He can train you from Apprentice up to Artisan (lvl 300). He wanders around in the Valley of Honor. Good luck.

Thank you all. I got it now. I didn't have the settings right and it was only showing those that were not available. Thanks again.
