Anyone have a really good location to farm this stuff? I know there are plenty of places to find it, but I'm looking for an area where I can gather up a bunch to AOE down, or an area with fast respawns.

Places like sholazar basin keep me circling the map.

The seal colonies on the SE tip of Howling Fjord.

Say “hi” to PETA if you see them there.

I know theoretically the drop rate is best in Sholazar Basin, but I've found the number of spawns and the level of the mobs and the number of people farming them is prohibitive to effective farming.

For my money, the most efficient place to farm chilled meat is in Dragonblight, the bears and elk (both plagued and non-plagued) and hyena's and even the occasional carrior bird in the triangular area delineated by the Obsidian Dragonshrine, Ruby Dragonshrine, and Azjol'Nerub, with Agmar's Hammer in the middle. If you're Alliance, don't get too close to the edge of the Ruby Dragonshrine or you might run into some Horde NPCs. I get about a 1 in 3 drop rate there off the elk and bear mothers and cubs, and they are low enough level kills that I can kill them in just a couple shots.

The gorillas (Hardknuckle Foragers and Chargers) by the Frenzyheart camp in Sholazar Basin have a good drop rate (~37% and ~51%, respectively) and can be grouped pretty easily. These are camped sometimes, but still really easy to farm. The Hardknuckle Foragers are non-aggressive, with just a couple aggressive Chargers mixed in.

Other than that, I usually don't have any problem finding crocolisks to kill. They're spread out a little, but close enough to have little downtime between kills.

This. On my feral druid if I need some meat I go here and in 20 minutes walk away with at least 2 stacks.

As I head down the river in Grizzly Hills fishing for salmon, I clear out the bears I see along the way. Roughly one stack of chilled meat per two stacks of salmon. Maybe not the most efficient method of farming, but it's not a separate trip, and there's a lot of downtime in getting from one fishing school to the next anyway.

I stopped farming chilled meat because the prices often dip to 3-4g/stack. In 20 min of mining/herbalism I can generate 50g so my time is better spent doing this. I still farm Rhino meat, however, because prices remain high - I have a mage so I can do it efficiently.

Yeah, spending 10 minutes or less in Storm Peaks or WG will get me 1 Eternal Fire, which go for 20-40G. That is 1-4 stacks of Chilled Meat, depending on the market of both.

I was out farming the seals in the Tundra Howling Fjord last night to stock up on meat, and it seems like the drop rate has been dramatically reduced. I got one stack in the same amount of time I used to be able to get three or four. Anyone else have this issue, or was I having a really bad night?

Edit meant Howling Fjord, not the Tundra.

I've found farming chilled meat to be less than profitable - I get better returns by farming something else or doing a daily quest and then picking up a stack or two from the AH.

On the other hand, someone has to put the stacks on the AH in the first place so what I've done recently is to exterminate the rhino packs in Storm Peaks, thereby stocking up on rhino meat at the same time.

North of Wintergarde Keep in Dragonblight, between Scarlet Point and Light's Trust. That's where I always go. The elks have a good drop rate, and respawn quickly.

Hands down the best farming spot - respawn rate is through the roof, there's usually no real competition, its off the beaten track if you're on a PvP server and if you're a LW you'll fill bags with leather as fast as with chilled meat.

Market on this (and all the other big game drops) is getting to be pretty much owned by goldfarmers. Yes, I know there are people who still try and make a living off this legitimately, I'm talking about the 50 auctions posted by Zxcv and Cvbn and Vbnm (and so on). These get down to the 1-2 gold range on my server. It's becoming more efficient to just find something else to make gold from (quests, fishing, etc), then buy the Meat if you need it.

If you still insist on farming it, a good spot is west of Dun Neffliem (bad spelling), the Sons of Hodir camp. Around the dead Worg for the Sons of Hodir daily is several group of mammoths that run around in circles, a couple AOE's and you've got 5-10 kills in 10 seconds. Since it is right on a really good Daily grinding circuit, you kill 2 birds with one stone. Another good spot of grouped-up mobs is in Borean Tundra, near the lake in the northwest side of the zone (the name escapes me).

I think the best place by far are the Rhinos around Warsong Hold and probably some around the alliance place too. They basically walk in packs of 5, round them up blast down 2 packs at once you get chilled and rhino meat and if you are a skinner you can skin all those mobs also. 3 things for just 1 mob, sounds pretty good to me. rhino meat still sells pretty well and you can save some up for mustard dogs!

I'll second this. Was just questing ZD with my DK this evening and the kitties and bears had probably at least a 90% drop rate. Wowhead says the drop rate is 60-61%, but it was much higher than that for me. Out of the 20-some kitties and bears I killed while questing, I think one, maybe two, didn't drop meat.

I farmed some chilled meat the other day and went (on advice of Wowhead) to Zul Drak and farmed the Basilisks there. Real high drop rate.

I've had 5 stacks on the AH for a week on Area 52. They aren't worth farming anymore I guess.

Judging by the comments made back in April, they haven't been for quite a while :-P

Whenever I need to restock Chilled Meats I head to the north side of Sholazar Basin and tag the rhinos and cats. You get not only the chilled, but also the rhino meats, both used in the daily cooking quests in Dalaran and in multiple recipes to skillup, cook for the cooking achievements, and for raiding/quest foods.

Also, if you are a skinner, you will reap the rewards from each kill.

If you are a gatherer of herbs, and even ores, there are some chances for those as well.

Not to mention that the Nesingwary camp is at one (west) end of the run I go on to sell off stuff when the bags get full and there is even a mailbox to send stuff to alts if you use that method for hoarding stuff. Also a flight path is there if you have not yet trained for cold-weather flying.

Even for a level 80 I can go from one end (west near Nesingwary Camp) to the next (east near the Goblin/ogre area) and never run out of targets unless someone else is doing it - if you're a skinner and the others in the area are not you can still make useful time out of their kills.
