Other then making the same item over and over since -it's not saleable- is there anyway
to get from 440 to 450 in engineering.

The guides I have seen suggest making the Gnomish Army Knife. You should be able to sell this item to anyone who typically carries flint and tinder to make campfires. It saves a bag slot. If they skin. mine or a blacksmith, it will save more than one bag slot.

Make the knives or the scope to get to 450. The scopes are good if you can farm the mats. I haven't checked prices recently, but I was taking a loss on them when I was skilling up. Anyone can use anything on the knife but the jumper cables, which require Grand Master Engineering to use.

If you have access to lots of mats the knife is really easy to make, totally worthless but easy to make (average price on my server is 90 silver). It really depends on how much you want to spend, I always look at thottbot or wowhead to see lists of what I can make with a trade, they are nicely itemized in lists with the level at which they go yellow shown.

Yea I ended up just going with the knife to lvl to 450. Just ended up vendoring em. The mats are pretty easy to farm, you just have to make a TON of em to gain the last few lvls.

Thanks to all for replies- I misread the knife requirements and thought it was only for master engineers.

Sigh, yeah - seems the only two options are the heartseeker scope and the gnomish army knife.

Can the knife be DE'd?

The BOP Engineering helmets are a guaranteed skillup, so I made one for both my mainspec and one offspec (the latter got me from 449 to 450).

If Saronite weren't cheaper than toilet paper, I might have made a third one but since it is I didn't.

The knives aren't DE'able, they're of common quality. I was selling them at 5-6g per in February, but the market returned to normal shortly thereafter. Otherwise I've just given them away to friends and to their alts and to random newbies running around in Ironforge.

Unfortunately flint and tinder appear to be going away in the next patch, according to the current patch notes, so their limited value to non-engineers is about to get worse, making it difficult to even give them away to strangers on the street. /cry

I think I made solely Gnomish Army Knives at this point. I used to do mining 'streaks' through Icecrown where you can easily pick up 20 Saronite ore in 10 minutes. Which equals a decent chance to get a level. If you spend 30 minutes in Icecrown a day you can do 440-450 within a week if you're unlucky.
