#1 Mar 10 2009 at 6:30 AM Rating: Default
Recently my lock has hit 80 and i've taken mining from 1-408. I am currently planning to take it to 450 today and looking for my second profession that i can pick up that is also a good money maker. I was thinking JC but really don't know, currently its enchanting but i really don't want to level it.

Do you want it to make money?

Do you raid?

Do you PvP?

All of these factors will change the profession of choice.

Good money maker and JC really dont go hand in hand I'm afraid.

If you're just looking to make cash then pick up a secondary gathering profession or take up enchanting and sell the dust/essence/shards - the sad fact of the matter is that anything worth making and selling has already flooded the market and as such, the real money right now is in the rares and the raw mats.

Don't believe this.

JC is still a very viable money maker. Dragon's eye still sells for 80-100G each. Not as much as the 300 it was before, but its still 80-100G for a single daily. Other than this, prospecting is always viable for making gold, and cut gems still sell for more than uncut if the cut is even somewhat "rare".

Still, I'd suggest you pick up herbalism. If you simply want a gold making toon, get that lock an epic flyer and get herb/mining up to 450 each. Set the search herb/search ore to your mouse middle button scroll and fly around picking up both.

I would say that unless you want a creative trade then stay as a miner and enchanter ( disenchanting = profit ) you can always set up a low alt with JC or another trade that uses the ore/stone you get and can level it fast as you could then just make the cheapest items to level with and disenchant and sell the mats which would be my way to do it , you did not say what level your enchanting was but selling the mats from disenchanting is very profitable , both my Mages have made thousands of gold and are only level 40 one has made over 7000g and that was after getting her to 300 enchanting , so you can see it is worth getting it levelled.

With JC there are some nice bonuses to doing it from low level like the healing statues which can be very useful at times and at high level can make a decent profit but not as much as a gathering trade or by disenchanting , the same with engineering although that is not so easy to make decent profits from but is great fun to level with.

Herbing would definitely be the way to go if you could track both mining and herbing nodes at once. Good money making potential and a nice HoT too.

Disenchanting will net you an ok profit but like everything in WoW, prices have dropped. To get your skill up it may require you to invest a fair bit of gold in it or scan the auction house for cheapies. Always good to have a disenchanter in the group.

Skinning is sort of like mining. The mid level leathers (level 50-65) usually sell for better than the high level stuff now. Most people are dropping it for other professions though as the market has really come down for Borean Leather and Arctic Furs. + Crit is still nice.

The trick is the cost of getting to the point that you can do the daily, plus, how much longer will those prices hold as more and more JCers fill in thier recipe lists.
