Engineering a Chopper (a mini rant)Follow

#1 Mar 09 2009 at 10:01 AM Rating: Sub-Default
So on my toon I spent quite a bit of time grinding up the rep to actually make the Chopper. Everytime I log in I link my Prof in Trade and I get a few tell asking how much, when I tell the other player the cost for the Eng only mats they laugh and stop talking to me, I thank blizz for finally giving Eng a money maker, but why did it have to be so expensive to make? I know for the rarity and all, but seriously over 15k if you buy all the mats if not 13500g just for the eng only mats. /Rant off

Well if anyone wants one, I can make you one on Eitrigg, Alliance side, Whisper Tommy

Oh noes, you can't make a profit with a primary trade skill! Who'dathunkit?

Seriously, most of us know that engineering it the biggest gold sink for the lowest ROI next to blacksmithing. You can, however, make a lot of neat and fun items with engineering, including combat items, pets, and teleports. If you want to make money, you'd be better off selling mats. But the same can honestly be said about practically all of the primary crafting skills. And VERY few players either have the money to buy/make a chopper, or the desire to do so. It's a niche-market item, and most of the people you could potentially sell to already bought theirs. You're a few months behind the first few that came out.

It's a neat toy though! I've made a friend with a chopper-owner, and riding side-along is actually pretty fun. Best of luck with the selling!

12500 for the vendor mats, but feel free to spend more money then you need to.

My only concern with the chopper is that I will make one and the next day Blizz will announce that they are lowering the cost/amount of mats required so that I will have wasted 13500G for something that now requires 5000 in mats. Probably won't happen for a while, but it happened with the flying machine didn't it?

That said it looks pretty damn cool and I do want one, just not sure if I really want to spend 13500G on that or if I want to waste it on other fun things in the game.

Wait till 3.1 if you're nervous about a sudden price drop but seeing as how its a pure vanity item, that makes it a gold sink, so I don't think its going to get cheaper any time soon.
