3.1 fishing dailies - discuss/gripeFollow

Quote:
Blood is Thicker

What to catch: 5 Bloodtooth Frenzies.
Where to catch it: Kill a beast in Borean Tundra. This will give a 3 minute debuff called "Animal Blood". Now jump into an open area of water. A Pool of Blood will appear, which you fish like any other pool. 1-3 Bloodtooth Frenzy will be caught from each cast.
Skill required: 380 to cast, 475 to stop fish getting away.
Kill any creature shown as a beast ((on the tooltip)) to become covered in "Animal Blood". You then have 3 minutes to find open water and jump in.

It is important to jump into an open area of water, close enough to the coast to cast. If the pool appears somewhere you cannot fish, simply kill another beast, and try again.

Each Pool of Blood will remain for 3 minutes - plenty of time to catch 5 Bloodtooth Frenzies.

Seems like this will be the easiest of the the five - not really much to say on this one.

Quote:
Dangerously Delicious

What to catch: 10 Terrorfish.
Where to catch it: Wintergrasp. Approximately half of all catches will have a Terrorfish attached.
Skill required: Unknown (no get-aways at 450 skill).
Wintergrasp is a contested zone, even where the factions are normally at peace ((PvE realms)). Fishing in Wintergrasp is indeed dangerous! Fish in-between battles to avoid most enemies. Battles occur about every 3 hours and last up to 30 minutes. The timer can ((with patch 3.1)) be seen on the map.

Your faction does not need to control Wintergrasp to complete this quest.

This one will be potentially annoying. Fortunately for Horde, we aren't going to be screwed for once - we've got a flight point on the west side that's literally only ten feet from water, meaning that we'll be able to fish in relative safety of the shadow of the guards there. Still, annoying that they'd force people into a PvP zone to do a FISHING daily even though I personally wont have any issues.

Quote:
The Ghostfish

What to catch: Phantom Ghostfish. Once you catch the fish, eat it within 1 minute. You will turn invisible, and start seeing things...
Where to catch it: Sholazar Basin (open water). The quest states River's Heart, but any water in Sholazar Basin seems to complete the quest.
Skill required: 430 to cast, 525 to stop fish getting away.
At the time of writing, eating the fish causes you to see a white fog and the quest objective completes. A few seconds later, you return to the normal world.

Also seems simple enough although its gonna be a bit rough on those without first rate fishing gear or maxed fishing skill.

Quote:
Jewel of the Sewers

What to catch: Corroded Jewelry.
Where to catch it: Dalaran's Underbelly (sewers).
Skill required: 430 to cast, 525 to stop fish getting away.
Ensure you are fishing in the Underbelly (the sewers), not other parts of Dalaran.

Woot - an excuse to force me to spend at least a couple of minutes trying to catch a pet sewer rat on my main!

Quote:
Monsterbelly Appetite

What to catch: Bloated Monsterbelly. This contains a Severed Arm, which must be delivered to Olisarra the Kind (First Aid Trainer in Dalaran).
Where to catch it: The Frozen Sea (open water).
Skill required: 480 to cast, 575 to stop fish getting away.
The Frozen Sea surrounds the southern half of the continent of Northrend. The nearest part of The Frozen Sea to Dalaran is just to the south of Dragonblight. There are only a few places to stand, unless you can walk on water. Make sure your bobber lands in the area called "The Frozen Sea".

The final of the three "damn I'm gonna have to work on my fishing" dailies.

Quote:
Unusual Items (poles below):
Sealed Vial of Poison - Begins a quest, delivered to The Black Market of Dalaran for 18 gold.
Strand Crawler - Small crab-like mini-pet (illustrated right).
Solid Stormjewel - +30 Stamina, Blue Socket, Unique-equipped, Bind on Pickup.
Tiny Titanium Lockbox - Requires 405 lockpicking. May contain gems, including Solid Stormjewel.
Unusual Compass - Using it makes you face a random direction.
Weather-Beaten Fishing Hat (same as Outland Daily)
Common Items:
Deviate Fish
Elixir of Water Walking
Glow Worm - +100 lure.
Northsea Pearl
Pygmy Oil
Valuable Junk/Novalty Items:
Diamond Tipped Cane
New Age Painting - 25 gold.
Porcelain Bell - 100 gold.
Tower Key - Over 16g.
And fishing poles...

Fishing Poles

At least 2 fishing poles can be gained from the Bag of Fishing Treasures. These bind to the angler when picked up:

Bone Fishing Pole
Skill bonus: +30
Shadow Resistance: +40
Minimum fishing skill required: 1

Jeweled Fishing Pole (illustrated right, thanks Henshin)
Skill bonus: +30
Minimum fishing skill required: 1
"A Tiffany Cartier original."

The pet crab will be the new baby croc, nice to know that hat will be in and also nice to know that I wont have to get exalted with walrus men to get a decent pole on my alts now (already did it twice - groan).

All said, with the exception of the need to fish in a PvP zone, I'm pretty happy with the new fishing dailies.

I'm really happy with this, was about time we had some more fishing dailies added!

I've tried "jewel of the sewers" and "blood is thicker" on PTR, fairly simple, didn't get anything notable in the goodie bags apart from a glow worm and some deviate fish tho >.<

I neeeeeed a jeweled fishing rod for my belf :D

I am looking forward to these. With the exception of the WG daily, that seems a bit odd, I wonder if Blizz is trying to stir up World PvP. Well, not really "world".

Anyways, the rest of the dailies look to be varied and interesting. Although, I'm sure after I do them for the 70th time, I won't feel that way.

I'm looking forward to the new fishing dailies. I think they look interesting and it's nice that they include a little travel and diversity. They seem to be more in the spirit of the Outland fishing and cooking dailies that actually required a little effort to complete. It's also fun to have a return of the random items rewarded for completion. Part of the appeal of the fishing daily, for me, was always the 'what will I get?' aspect of the turn-in.

As a semi-aside...in contrast, I've been really disappointed in the Northrend cooking dailies. They seem designed to make it as easy as possible for people to complete. They just end up seeming like busy work (which of course dailies are, but there are ways to make them seem less like busy work) and a laborious way to get the spices needed to make raid food.

These look like a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to them. I wonder if there's an achievement tied to them?

With the two fishing poles available it won't be necessary to get to exalted with the Kalu'ak any longer in order to get the only +30 fishing pole in the game. Although the Kalu'ak pole does allow underwater breathing.

I'm glad myself - I've got five 70+ toons so I use them to grind rep on everyone - between cooking and JC daily my mage is only 72 and half way to revered while I think the cooking dailies will actually ding my pally 71 and she's never been leveled outside of filling in as dps on a Nexus run. ;-)

I am looking forward to the fishing dailies, one more reason I am glad I levelled fishing to a decent level recently, I suppose now I will have to grind to 450. I like the look of some of the rewards for the daily, also 100G for a grey item? Looks like fishing will be even easier gold than it already is. Also I am happy to have received the pet from Mr Pinchy on my last wish (first/only Mr Pinchy I caught).

Smart money says that's going to be as rare as CS' eyeball (30g grey reward from previous fishing dailies) so don't really count on it. I'm looking forward to three things -

1) New NC pet crab
2) Additional way to farm Dalaran mage rep
3) An excuse to get fishing in the sewers and finally catch my rat

Glad there are some new fishing dailies, my fishing is at 450 so I can make use of that and the rewards are not bad either.

Check the AH on your server - fishing can be VERY profitable even without the dailies.

Good stuff...

Wintergrasp one will probably be the most interesting if there's a battle going on. What would be awesomely hilarious if it were that you could only engage a fishing player in combat if you have a fishing pole equipped yourself. How funny would that be!? fishing pole pvp pls.

Very nice. I'm working on my fishing skill for all my characters right now just so I can make sure I can do these dailies.

Interesting but fortunately, its not looking like there'll be much ganking - Ally flight point seems to be close enough to water that they can fish safely as well so both sides should be mostly safe.

Just read the notes on mmo-champion again and it appears we are getting a fishing mount... thats right a FISHING MOUNT - My guess is that it will be the Coralshell turtle mount which is +100% movement speed on land and in water. All those hours spent fishing are going to be giving a pretty cool reward methinks..

El's Extreme Anglin' forums seem to point to it being a Ray mount (like a manta ray, I assume). Would kinda suck if it was a landmount version of a Nether Ray :-/

As its been said, it should be the water/land speed turtle?

edit: though it hasnt been plainly stated that they're linked. its logical. But one can never be sure till its openly stated.

You know... Allies have a flight path just on the other side of the mountains on the East side... Just saying. =)

Yeah - ran across it not long ago when a rogue tried to gank me and then fled after it went poorly for him - chased his butt all the way there - made a note a few posts up that the Ally FP is close enough to water that they should be able to fish in peace too.

I like the dailies. About time us anglers got some love in Northrend. : )

I have mixed feelings about fishing in WG. I am NOT a PvPer, but in my ignorance I started out on a PvP server back in 05. I LOVED fishing, but hated getting ganked while I was trying to get my line wet and share a frosty with Nat. I hated it so much in fact, that I did a paid transfer to a normal realm so I could more easily level my fishing skill and win the STV fishing tourny!!

The thing I do like about fishing in WG is now we will have one place to fish up the 3 fish required for the Fish Feast. My guildies love me when I prepare a fish feast in dungeons. : ) Good Luck to all : )

How do you get 405 lockpicking? AFAIK there's no enchant for lockpicking and the current max is 400.

Good eye! I missed the requirement on that originally. There is one way to do it: Dark Leather Gloves raise your lockpicking skill by 5. I'm thinking this is the only way to open this. Sneaky sneaky!

However, latest reports are the requirement being lowered to 400, so keys also open them.
