Blacksmithing or Jewelcrafting?Follow

The skinning market has pretty much dried up on my server... Borean leather is barely going for vendor cost. Sure, I could send it to an LW friend to have made into heavy borean, but then I'm better off just selling it all to that friend and let them keep it.

Been mining since day one. Used to be a blacksmith, but I found it to be a pain in the *** at the time. I figure between gemming new gear and getting my hands on it, i spend more on gems right now. Mind you, there's always going to be a market for weapons and armor. I've got a bunch of spare time this weekend (guild has no raids planned) and Dailies are finished in a couple hours if I take my time. which one should I power level this weekend?

If you just want to make money then go mining and either herbalism or enchanting.

As for skinning, what about the scales and chitin (don't count the arctic fur since its too rare) - those are still going for decent gold on my server?

For JC, there's really not much money in it unless you score yourself a rare cut or you just want to farm dragon's eyes from the daily - ten minutes doing the daily gets you a dragon's eye worth 125-150 (currently on my server, but I'm sure it'll be down to 50 or less now that most JCs have all the patterns they want). I thought that at the very least I could save gold doing my own cuts but sadly, people skill up on the popular ones and as such, more often then not the cut gems are cheaper then the raw ones.

I don't have a BS personally, but my brother does and he says that the market is currently a wash - sure, there's titansteel stuff in the AH for 1-2k but whether or not it sells is something else.

I'm a tradeskill junky and will always advocate taking a tradeskill to use the items you can make, but sadly, I have to admit that there's just not a market for the finished goods.

Yep. That's the thing. I burn alot of gems when I get new gear. All my stuff is coming off raid drops now, and the gems are killing me. On my server a Bold Scarlet Ruby (what I use the most by far) is hovering around 100g a pop. I had a pretty good streak a month ago while mining, hitting a scarlet ruby every 3 or 4 nodes. thing is, those didn't last long once I had a guildie cut them. sure, I could easily just send the ore to have prospected, but I figure I'd be missing out. End game ores are cheap right now. So are the smelted bars. Titansteel just dropped below 100g a bar, and cooldowns are maybe going for 20g (most guildies will cough up 30-40, especially to the plate wearers like me.) One of our raid tanks is an Engineer/Alchemist. He has two farming alts. It makes good sense. Use the trades that get you the best gear and buffs, and if you can turn a profit while at it, all the better. One of these days, I'll get to work on a couple of my alts, and make life easier for me too. I flipped a coin and went JC earlier tonight. Lucky for me I was farming ore and stone for the last few days, so I had plenty of mats (so I thought, AH buyouts are good for the economy) and powerleveld to about 280 JC in a couple of hours. My wife has an alt that JC's too, but is a lower level, and I'll be sending my leftover gems and parts to that toon. Plan is to be 400ish skill by the end of the weekend.

OK, well since your PLing JC then two bits of advice -

1) Forget the name of the ring, but the mats are two eternal earths and it stays green till around 430 if mem serves. If you have a chanter be sure to send these all to be sharded as they dust and eternal pay off of these rings is spectacular.

2) If you've got an alchy that needs skilling up, have it make you a meta gem every day and then do the last of your JC skilling by cutting the metas (assuming you want to max out to 450) - is cheap and easy.

That's the plan. Started last night and am already at 375... should hit 450 by the end of the weekend if I have time. if not, i can work on it over the week and grab all the good recipes too.

Speaking of the JC Daily... where is it, and at what level do you get it?

The JC daily can be found in Dalaran but if mem serves, you'll get the first quest off of the trainer in the newby areas when you train to go past 375 - he'll give you a random daily and tell you to deliver the finished product to Dalaran and then when you deliver it, you'll get your first actual daily.

The dailies are all a peice of cake - as Horde I bound my JC's hearth stone (she's a mage and can self port to Dal) to the Horde camp in southern HF. From there I can kill the bison for the bone right outside the camp, there's giants for the trinket 10 seconds west, the area with the baby protodrakes is maybe a minute ride northwest, I can fly to the northern camp and head east to hunt the dwarves for their trinkets and the waterfalls with the ice elementals are just 10 seconds ride east as well. The only annoying one is the scourge trinket - gotta fly out to BT to find scourge (toon is only level 72 so that's easy/safest for it - at 80 you've got more options).

The drop rates are also wonderful - usually doesn't take more then three kills.
