I'm a Lvl 50 Warrior with 300 Mining skill. I need to get to Outland to see a Trainer. Can this be done? I've heard a Mage can Port me there and I've also heard they can't unless I'm Lvl 58.
I've been WoWing for 2 1/2 years but have never asked for Ports before. What's the procedure? Thanks for any info.

I assume you are not in a guild ?

Easiest way is to either ask in trade chat for a portal or perhaps better is see if any high level mages are about with a search and whisper them politely asking for a portal , and probably offer some gold for their time will help a lot, as my level 40 mage now gets at least 1 whisper a day asking for a portal i now refuse unless they offer me some gold , even level 80.s asked me to send them to different towns and yet most never even said thanks , so be prepared for a few refusals.

Another option i use and this depends on which faction you are and if you have the latest expansion for example is catch the boat from stormwind to the new area as in the town are most of the trainers you may need , not sure about horde side but i expect the same deal exists for them ( must remind myself to check that out ) but even my level 30 alts have been to the new areas town so is perfectly safe there.

As a Horde you get to the new Northrend cities with the Zeplin. Their is one in Org and UC. The one in UC is right next to the old zep.

Thnx for the replies.
My Warrior is Alliance so I'll leave the Zeppelins be,hehe.
After posting, I went back in and called for a Port; One appeared next to me and I assumed some kind soul cast it for me because when I moused it a gold wheel appeared. But, when I clicked the wheel, nothing happened! I tried standing next to it, running through it, standing in it; nothing. So, maybe someone just ported themself next to me to make me feel bad, or do I need to group with them to make it work, or will it not work because I'm too low a Lvl to go there?
I'll try going to the new land and see if I can train there but I suspect that might be too high a training level. I'll let you know.

I got to Northrend. It worked well; I can train with the Miner and the Blacksmith there. But I still need to train in Outland for Cooking and First Aid.Plus that's where the Dark Iron is, though I don't think I'm tough enough to mine it there.

You need to be in a group with the mage to use the portal. You need to go to the trade channel (/2) and say "WTB portal to Shat". Make sure you tip the mage before the portal is opened.

Edit: Dark Iron can be found in Searing Gorge and in other "old world" areas that are level appropriate for you. Google a mining guide (or look here at Alla) there are many out there.

I've just tested this.
It is possible for every profession apart from alchemy and enchanting to train Outland recipies at the starting town of Northrend.

Why alchemy and enchanting have to go to Outland I don't know.

First Aid trainer is, I believe, next to the BS trainer. Turn on your "track profession trainer" option. I forget where the cooking trainer is, but I believe they're chilling with the others. And as said, Dark Iron ore is in Searing Gorge/Burning Steppes. The training to smelt it is actually a quest in the Blackrock Depths instance. It isn't used at all these days, so you're not missing much. You go from Mithril/Truesilver to Small Thorium.

First aid comes from books though, I'm not sure if they will teach netherweave and heavy netherweave in northrend when they don't drop the cloth at all there.

Ah, so true! I forgot about the book. Yes, he'll need to go to the Temple of Telhamut (or whatever it's called) in Hellfire Penninsula to buy the book, or get them off the AH.

If your going to get ported to Strath, might as well go to Dalaran.

There are more portals there, one to go to Strath too.

The only problem with Dalaran is if you get bad lag in Shat it is far far worse in Dalaran , when its busy it can take me 5 minutes to move anywhere as its gradually loading everything there in busy times.
